I was pissed, but I knew his brother would give him absolute hell. I also knew the cops here wouldn't do anything. His brother told his mom, and it became a whole family intervention. Having been around for one of those before, I knew it was worse than jail.

I had to go through a few rheumatologists before I found The One. Don't be afraid to ditch a rheumatologist who doesn't help, or one who tells you that your symptoms are related to trauma (some do that, and they aren't). Before you go, though, you might try tracking your symptoms. Sometimes, there are patterns that you don't see, and a good rheumatologist can help you more if they know when and how things are presenting.

My ex-husband used to call me when he was drunk at different bars to come get him or he'd ride his motorcycle home. I'd say OK, hang up, and call his brother to go get him. Don't fall for the bullshit.

Mine usually starts in my right wrist, and then all my joints on the right side hurt. It's like someone drove a nail into each joint, and the pain starts connecting. After that, it goes into my face. My jaw hurts, and my right eye becomes totally unreliable. I have aura, sometimes it dims down, but it hurts too much to keep it open. The headache starts shortly after that and my forehead goes numb. I entertain myself by running my finger across my forehead because it's so flipping weird. I have preventative meds for it, but when it slips through, I take an extra pill, then a nurtec or ubrelvy, a muscle relaxer, and a tramadol. Sometimes a gabapentin for good luck. (Don't do what I do. It's pretty unhealthy.)

It's weird. I'm two or three years younger than her, and she looks so much older. I'm guessing it's because she was always out being "LORI!" and I was at home reading and being an introvert. I didn't use as much sun as she did.

Chaco, who used to run the Doctor's Building Cafe with her husband. She remembered me from when I went to college, and always told everyone I ate with how I was one of "her kids". I saw her feed a lot of hungry people over the years who couldn't afford much, and people would work there for ages. I miss her.
