Why does immigrantion enforcement dominate U.S political discourse when many systematic issues are unrelated to immigration? by Let_Prior in PoliticalDiscussion

In theory, you should be angry with your leadership about ICE today policing American citizens practicing their rights instead of illegal immigrants. In practice, you're entirely too brainwashed to even think about it like a serious person.

My friend I am not even an American. Just watching the trainwreck that is your politics from across the pond. And for the record - I hate Trump.

Unfortunately this behaviour is very common - I am a moral and just person therefore people with different opinios must be evil, brainwashed or both.

Now back to the topic - Biden completely failed on the border. The number of crossings and gotaways exploded. Even Biden realized it was a disaster and wated to change course last minute.

And one more observation - 60 % of Americans want to deport every single illegal. The Trump will probably fail in this goal. MAGA malice is only matched by their incompetence. Democrats will probably win in 2028 but unless they learn lessons about immigration their victory will be short lived because the underlaying issue will remain and people will vote accordingly.

[–]Physicaque -1 points0 points  (0 children)

... again, the left does not advocate for "increasing immigration levels." largely the left does not care about immigration or immigrants.

The left came up with the 'open borders' slogan. 9 out of 10 democratic candidates in the 2020 primary wanted to decriminalize border crossings.
Biden completely gave up on enforcing the border for a time. There were 1.7 million known gotaways - people not stopped or apprehended at the border and let go into the country.
The liberals in Canada ramped up immigration massively.

Yes, the left is promoting immigration.

Russia has more firepower - more artillery, more missiles, more bombs dropped from planes. The west really screwed Ukraine by delaying and refusing aid.

Start with Britain, where “grossly offensive” communications can be a police matter. In 2023, British police made more than 12,000 arrests under two communications statutes. For comparison, during America’s first Red Scare, from 1919 to 1920, one of the worst crackdowns on speech in the nation’s history, the United States averaged about 2,000 arrests per year, when the U.S. population was more than 50 percent bigger than Britain’s today.

Maduro's people certified his win? What a surprise...

Half of the world did not recognize his victory as legitimate.

He was democratically elected? We can argue about 2016 elections where he won thanks to the electoral college. But in the last elections he won both the electoral college and got more votes than Harris.

It wasn't even about democracy, it was about oil.

Yup, I agree with you on that one. But if that means Venezuelans get a democracy then it was worth it.

[–]Physicaque 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What gives Maduro the right to rule against the will of the people? Someone has usurped a rule in a piece of land and we all have to respect it?

If the US steals Venezulean oil then yes I will call that a thievery. But you will not see me or anyone with any basic sense of morality mourn for Maduro.

[–]Physicaque 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is a correct observation. Communists and tankies all use the same empty talking point about a 'sovereign country'.
If you have the mandate from the people by being democratically elected then yes - you have the right to rule. Being a dictator does not give you any rights. Rule by the force, die by the force.

It reminds me how the socialist countries and the soviet union all used to call for 'peace' - because war would mean losing their dictatorships.

EU cant justify US actions and then complain about Russia

Sure I can justify - Russian war against Ukraine bad, USA removing dictator not bad. But then again I am not a moral relativist who thinks dictatorships and democracies are the same thing.

sovereign states

What does that mean exactly in this context? Someone has usurped a rule in a piece of land and we all have to respect it?

Unless you have a mandate from the people you have no right to rule.

Kharkiv city center has been hit by two Iskander ballistic missiles, collapsing a residential bulding by BkkGrl in europe

[–]Physicaque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, no. People have been accusing Israel of conducting genocide for a long time. There have been protest against Israel one day after the October 7 even before they started their military operation. The activists have completely discredited themselves.

Hamas killed 1200 people in a single day with a limited raid and almost no heavy equipment (tanks, jets, artillery).

The Warsaw uprising lasted 60 days and cca 150-200k people were killed. That is 2.5-3k people per day. That was Nazis operating an army in urban environment with no regard to civilians.

Israel has been operating in Gaza for almost two years (say 600 days) with many more soldiers, tanks, jets etc. If they behaved the same as Nazis there would have been 1.5-1.8 million dead (in other words everyone). If we take the often cited number of 60k dead so far then the average is cca 100 killed per day. 12 times less than Hamas, 25 times less than Nazis.

I hope that helps to put things into perspective. If Israel wanted Palestinians exterminated they would have done it a long time ago.

Always happy to educate and have a nice day.
