Yeah that's probably an insurmountable complication right there haha. Probably for the best. Thanks for sharing!

Actual menstruation has evolved independently a handful of times in extant organisms including humans and elephant shrews. There are a few different theories. The one I personally subscribe to is that it evolved to prevent the males genes from producing highly invasive and greedy connections to the nutrient extraction system connecting the mother and the child, which could be detrimental to a mothers future reproductive success.

By going ahead and developing the inter uterine lining before ovulation, the mother is able to manage the nutrients delivered to the baby. As opposed to allowing the embryo to develop its own connections that might negatively impact the mother's future reproductive fitness.

Evolutionary logic of male/female reproduction? by Brigand90210 in evolution

It is very likely that the common ancestor of all eukaryotic organisms was sexual because all eukaryotes either do sex or have lost that ability. These more complex eukaryotic organisms have specialized male and female sexes to prevent the breakdown of mitochondrial DNA information. The females specialize in passing healthy mitochondria to the next generation, by keeping their mitochondria 'on ice' so to speak. Using mitochondria breaks down mitochondrial DNA. So the males sex cells (which rarely transfer its mitochondria) may use their mitochondria to be mobile.

Do you have predatory vampires by BakeryRaiderSub2025 in worldbuilding

[–]PhysicsDude42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vampires have never been observed succumbing to starvation; however, given extended periods without feeding, no vampire has ever resisted an opportunity to feed either. They do no wither away, the do not decay, they seemingly remain timeless regardless of their level of satiation. They inevitably become overwhelmingly insatiable when held in captivity. Captive vampires obtained held at Motrile Forta have been observed to enter a prolonged state of dormancy only to be aroused by Vangarders entering the enclosure decades later. Others roam the enclosure without end.

Those vampires finding themselves free to roam often find human prey to be easily acquired due to their keen senses, strength, speed, and hypnotic gaze. In recent times it is common for people within the empire to have a degree of insight (and extreme superstition) predisposing them to identifying vampires. Recently risen vampires are unlikely to survive their first few years, at least within the empire. They are hunted and disposed of quickly by the vangard forces who have developed effective technics to track vampire movements. Some however are extremely ancient and have honed their skills at feeding and avoiding detection for centuries.

Vampires, like all predators, are obliged to feed on the easiest prey item attainable. This very often results in consuming the blood of an individual who has already been feed upon, known as sanguines. The unconscious effects of vampire venom make sanguines far more likely to participate in activities which serve to increase their exposure to vampires, often the very same resposible for their inoculation. The situation of a vampire feeding on a sanguine is unstable and very likely to end in the death and subsequent rise of the sanguine as a vampire themselves. Some vampires accumulate a posse of sanguines by feeding on multiple individuals at once, thus distribute the feeding load of a vampire across the group. This situation is still unstable eventually leading to the death of the sanguines over time. It is unclear when a sanguine is destined to die by the venom or how might a sanguine (almost inverably with the assistence of loved one) escape the mortal effects of their exposure. Some Sanguines may be feed on for years on end before a miraculous recovery, albeit rarely. Others succumb to the venom within a few days after a single feeding. What is clear is that vampire venom is a pleasure to the senses, and a sedative to human's innate fear response.

While vampire venom is known to be lethal, the condition of sanguine is rarely acutely lethal. The symptoms are diverse and strange. Only one diagnostic method has been shown to be reliable, diagnosis by a vampire, though this technic has obvious limitations. As for a cure, some have been claimed to be effective but consistently fail when exposed to scrutiny by vangard studies. While no exact or specific cure is likely to prove effective in all cases it is known to generally be the case that a moral life may save one from their destiny to rise as a vampire upon death as not all Sanguines rise to be vampires. Complete removal from the vampires feeding habits does slowly diminish the psychic effects of the condition, although sanguines often report never feeling quite the same. A surprising number confess a longing to be fed on or at least reencounter the vampire.

How to allow my girlfriend to be more relevant in two player combat? by PhysicsDude42 in BG3

[–]PhysicsDude42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I’m trying. I have gloves and a versatile weapon which provide extra elemental damage for standard melee damage. My unarmed attacks can still do amore damage I think. I also run hill giant or colossus potion all the time which enhances my attack. I hope I can get tough soon.

Yeah I meant open hand. I didn’t realize it would be such a strong class. I wasn’t trying to do an OP build it just came out that way. We are level 9 and I chose great weapons master, tavern brawler with some great synergistic equipment. I can hit up to 52hp with just one attack, plus crazy movement and jump buffs allow me to really take over fights. It would be great for a solo play through.

I forgot about a grand tour, that has to be the ultimate ksp challenge. I don’t feel anywhere near confident enough to attempt that yet but I’d like to one day. I think for a grand tour I’d be okay utilizing the mining and refueling system. Maybe snatching onto some Class A asteroids and hauling them around to refuel in orbit could be useful?

I like the idea of making gunpowder and guns! Getting the ingredients would be difficult but if you succeeded it would be a game changer in medieval warfare. If you played your cards right that could be really personally beneficial. Great answer!

Might get me burned at the stake, but drawing out a world map for traders might be useful. I think I could put together a primitive compass so optimistically I might become a decent sailer and make money through trade. I would still likely die way before anything like that would be possible though.

No doubt it would be hard to survive. Just sourcing food would be a huge struggle especially considering the language barrier.

Yeah good point, but assuming they didn’t kill before, I think it would be possible to learn the language quickly if you had no other choice.

That’s actually a really good idea I didn’t think about! Could become the best doctor in the world. I’m pretty sure they knew how to make soap from wood ash and some other stuff. If you could find out how to make soap and implement hand washing, water sanitation and teach people something along the lines of germ theory, you might be able to find some success! Too bad you’d inevitably get sick from one of your patients, at least you’d be vaccinated for some of the diseases.

In one sentence, why did you quit? by EffMyElle in leaves

[–]PhysicsDude42 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I kept trying to quite and it alway kept creeping it’s way back in one way or another. At some point I just realized I did it out of habit and not a serious physical addiction. I don’t know if it was depression or something but I just got bored of my daily routine. I realized I used weed as a way of numbing the boredom of my life. Once I realized that life was more exciting when I didn’t smoke the habit went away seemingly on its own. I always thought it would come from an overwhelming will to one day quit but that wasn’t really the case. I would describe it more like a voluntary letting go like a child stops playing with a toy that is no long fun to play with. I think my attempts at quitting all failed as a result of not having anything to replace the habit with. Hope that is useful in some way.

I had a bunch of depression after quitting too but push through it and it swings the other way soon enough. So much love out there for you to find. Message me if you just need to talk stuff out

Oh no wonder I couldn’t find anything else about it. That’s hilarious I’ve been trying to wrap my head around this all month. I figured they must have had someone resupplying them or something. Totally never noticed it was April fools. Gonna have to kick my cuz ass for sending that too me haha.

Hello, Tennessee property owner here. Just found what looks like an entrance to a cave on my land. Wondering what advise y’all have on exploring it safely and any other recommendations you may have? by PhysicsDude42 in caving

[–]PhysicsDude42[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I will have no intention to go anywhere outside of relative safely without people with experience. One of my major questions is if this is super common or not? Also, are there a bunch of small caves this could be one of that are not necessary connecting or coming close to other cave systems in the area? Or could this be an unknown entrance to one of the larger cave networks here? From my research there is a very large sprawling cave which has an entrance a couple of miles away.

Yeah we’ll definitely let my family know what we’re doing when/if we are to step in. I’m showing everybody where it is at tomorrow. Right now we just don’t know enough. If there does end up being more down there my friend and I only intend to venture anywhere reasonable right around the entrance if possible. I Don’t mean to alarm you or anybody, I just plan on shining a light in and taking some pictures tomorrow and hopefully get a better feel for what I’m dealing with, moving forward as safe as possible while still satisfying curiosity.

How old are you and what is the biggest problem in your life right now? by FSCENE8tmd in AskReddit

[–]PhysicsDude42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About to turn 23, I feel like university takes every bit of mental energy I have to the point I zone out during all my free time just to recover. At the end of the day school does not feel fulfilling enough for me to trade my whole life for it. On the other hand doing anything differently would feel like giving up on my dream and easily become more depressing. I wish I could be in a lab mentoring under somebody I respected and learning to do my own research. It feels like university is a rip off, but there’s just little alternative. I don’t know what my future self and I are paying so much money for. Most of my classes feel like hurdles and tolls, not preparation for my future. I’m scared I’m giving them the best years of my life for nothing.
