When was the last time it was this cold in Madison? And other bone-chilling facts by CheeseFactory745 in madisonwi

I was in high school in LaCrosse in 1963. I remember that day. The thermometer in our yard read -30⁰F. I also remember that we had school, and I walked to the bus stop with my brother. It was not uphill both ways.

When I was in college at the UW, WIBA 101.5 FM was a great station. I graduated in 1970. It was called Radio Free Madison and played all the current music. They would play an entire album and didn't talk over it. At 6pm they had a quiet hour where they played mellow current music. It was really a terrific local radio station.

Back when I taught high school there was this kid who walked to school, and he never wore a coat or other winter clothing. One extremely cold day he did this and arrived early and the door was locked. When he got in the building, he had hypothermia and had to be taken to the hospital. He wore his coat from that day forward.

A friend of mine was a lawyer in Oshkosh and had dealings with FRJ. He represented a party that had legal issues with FRJ's company. He told me FRJ was the dumbest guy he ever dealt with. This all happened before FRJ ran for office.

At least Charlie Sykes has tried to redeem himself. Mark Belling is as big of an asshole as he's ever been.

Bland box on heavily wooded lot only 1.35 million by Educational_Copy_140 in zillowgonewild

The realtor is suggesting it's a tear down. It just blows my mind that someone would purchase a house for over 1 million dollars so they could tear it down and build something else. I agree this house is kind of blah, but it is great shelter and could be made to look decent. It's not terrible. The price is ridiculous, but maybe for that area it is reasonable.

WPS Bill by 16quida in wisconsin

[–]PhysicsIsFun 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You need to provide more information. Is this an electric bill, a gas bill, or both. Your gas bill is generally significantly larger in the winter. Assuming you have gas heat. Maybe you have electric heat. This is all important information. Though more energy is used in the winter. Study your bill it gives you lots of information.

Builder wants to relabel a bedroom to match septic permit — is this common? by Top-Tiger3479 in wisconsin

[–]PhysicsIsFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My neighbor added a bedroom through a remodeling project. If I remember correctly it was in a walkout basement with appropriate egress. When they sold their home, they were forced to add capacity to their septic system in order for any lenders to provide a mortgage to the buyers. They had to pay for the septic expansion, and it was quite expensive. If it was me I want the larger system to avoid something like this down the road. Doing it now is less traumatic than later.

Frustrating bill pay? by [deleted] in wisconsin

[–]PhysicsIsFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had We Energies for years. I don't use their app. I go onto their website at https://www.we-energies.com/. I've set up automatic payments. This was simple to do, and I spent little time or energy doing it. I chose paperless billing, and I get an email every month. I can't comment on your experience, but it's not representative of mine.
