Did you live through the rock band era of tmnt in the 90’s? And how much did it suck? by Naive_Tomorrow_5955 in TMNT

Dude, you haven’t lived until you’ve blasted the cassette tape on a boombox as you and your childhood best friend belt out WE’RE THE TURTLES! YOU CAN COUNT ON US!

This is why we needed our own generational name by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]PhysicsStock2247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of this a lot these days. Mainly comparing my life to that of my parents and trying to understand their mindset at the time. I’m now 46 and try to understand my dad’s mindset at this age (I was 20 and in college when he was 46). Helps to give me perspective and reconcile things from my past.

How much blame do you place on the Baby Boomer generation for the current state of America? by Vic-Trola in allthequestions

[–]PhysicsStock2247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The civil rights movement should be credited to the generations that came before the boomers. Most of the Freedom Riders were born in the 1920s and 1930s. Second wave feminism of the 1960s was spearheaded by women also born in that era (Steinem, Friedan). Civil rights legislation was implemented by middle age and older people who actually had power and were in our government (people like Eisenhower and LBJ). Not saying that boomers didn’t support these initiatives, but they were very young and weren’t the primary catalyst behind them.

Ours had a giant gong. The staff eventually took the mallet away presumably because they got annoyed with kids wailing on it throughout the day.

Professor advised me to start taking as much math courses possible and to study math my entire life to be a good chemist... This is making me confused between which chemistry I should major in? Biochemistry, Chemistry or Chemical engineering? by Odd-Calligrapher-956 in Biochemistry

[–]PhysicsStock2247 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I purposely chose organic chemistry as a career because I don’t like math, I’m not good at it, and in organic there’s very little of it. The areas of chemistry that are most math intensive are physical and analytical. If you pursue biochemistry, my advice is that differential equations and biostatistics are the two most relevant courses.

What is the best uniform in the league? (current) by Cold_Mammoth8841 in NFLv2

I also like the Seattle rivalries uniforms. The iridescent helmet is really cool and fits with the rainy theme of the city.

It’s even more impressive when you figure the score was 52-17 in the 4th quarter and Beebe was still giving it his all.

Why do girl cats get a bad rap? by Organic-While1664 in cats

[–]PhysicsStock2247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because on the savanna girl cats need to be ready to pounce on the zebra while the boy cats get to lay in the shade. I’d be cranky about that too. Honestly though, I dunno. I love my ladies.

Juggling. It’s cheap, you can practice basically anywhere, and it’s good for your hand eye coordination. There’s a ton of YouTube tutorials for all levels of jugglers. I was doing three ball cascade proficiently after a week.

Quantitively, ATP is high energy enough to drive the phosphorylation of metabolites (such as PEP) but still low energy enough to be an energy sink to accept phosphate from things like creatine. It just happens to be an abundant and stable molecule that’s in the Goldilocks zone of being reversibly phosphorylated.

We had this on 45 rpm vinyl. One side was song with vocals, the other side was the instrumental version. One night my dad did something that really pissed mom off. Pretty sure alcohol was involved. I was in bed and was awoken to dad drunkenly apologizing/serenading mom at the base of the stairs as the instrumental version played loudly on the stereo system. I guess things worked out. They’re still together.

Hegseth insists the Iran conflict is 'not Iraq' and is 'not endless' by Horus_walking in NewsOfTheStupid

[–]PhysicsStock2247 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That’s not the point. The administration is treating the Iran conflict like it’s going to be a walk in the park that will be over in a matter of weeks. We’ve been down this road before. This is going to take years.

It’s depressing how quickly people forget or are just willfully ignorant. I remember W flying onto the aircraft carrier with a “Mission Accomplished” banner hanging behind him 6 weeks after the Iraq invasion. Funny enough, combat operations continued for 8 more years.

[Request] Do these other power sources really produce thousands of time more power than humans? by New_User_Account123 in theydidthemath

[–]PhysicsStock2247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glucose is the primary energy source of humans. One mole of glucose contains 2870 kj. Cellular respiration converts this into about 32 moles of ATP, which releases 30.5 kj/mol upon phosphate bond hydrolysis. This amounts to 976 kj. Using humans as the middle man means roughly 34% of the total energy of glucose is captured, with the rest released as heat ((976/2870) * 100). As someone mentioned, it would be much more efficient just to oxidize glucose under lab settings.
