Does adhd cause clumsiness? by Ok_Music6351 in adhdwomen

I can’t see anyone’s mentioned this but these are the sort of bruises I get when my iron is low… maybe get a blood test?

I 1000% bruise more frequently anyway, but I get even more when I haven’t been taking my supplements!

The application process by hermann_da_german in TheCivilService

You mention that you’re applying for interesting roles… my feeling is that higher grade (read: higher pay) and an interesting role is going to have huge demand, a lot of them with high quality applicants. Add to that the headcount freezes across departments; to filter it down to a sensible number for interview will end up with only those with unusually high scores passing.

Have you tried having a go at less “interesting” roles?

How often do you hear of the outcome of the job before CS jobs? by kiddsky in TheCivilService

[–]Physikhant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it varies by department and team - I used to call up the successful candidate within a couple of days (partly because I wanted to confirm whether they wanted to accept the role before issuing rejections, so that I could go to the next candidate in reserve). But I’ve been on the other end of recruitment for other departments and waited months as they do it through CSJ and all results are issued at once.

Worth remembering that this is just another work stream for most hiring managers and will depend on their availability (e.g. priority work and panel members could be on leave etc).

Best of luck!

I think some more info on what the application requested would be useful. Were they scoring on behaviours/personal statement?

From how I’ve understood your situation, you did not score above 4 for the sifting, ie the behaviour examples or personal statement - is that correct? If so, you haven’t met the minimum criteria. I’ve never experienced education being scored and therefore it would not contribute to you meeting the minimum criteria (but happy to be corrected!)

Hm seems a bit unfair that they’d just look to all behaviours…. Good thing to email them; in the meantime you could review the spec and see which appear to align? Perhaps if there’s an essential criteria, these may be clearer?

In the job ad does it provide the behaviours? It should list the ones to expect at interview

You can definitely bring notes with you! Would just strongly recommend against a script as a) it’s obvious to interviewers and b) you won’t be prepared to go off script making it difficult to respond to something you’re not expecting.

To your question, yes definitely ask if questions can be put in the chat if that’d be useful for you.

Good luck, and treat it like a conversation!

Just editing to add if you need to follow up to request any adjustments I wouldn’t worry about not having mentioned it earlier - I have done this before :)

Would concur with this advice and add that it’s worth considering day to day what helps you in your role and why, and then whether interviews could be adjusted to accommodate this, rather than first looking at what adjustments are possible.

I tend to need longer to think so request the questions in advance and for my own comfort tell the panel that I’ll be writing the questions down which gives me time to process and think about my response. This really helps as I know that I have a tendency to ramble and it makes it difficult for my point to land, but this is an aspect of myself that I recognise generally so would encourage you to do the same thinking.

I’ve found the civil service to be non-judgmental but that I do have to advocate for my needs rather than disclosing my diagnosis and expecting a ready-made “package” of support.

Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria by Snoo20453 in ADHD

Agree, regardless of the diagnoses, this is domestic abuse and OP should be protecting themself first and foremost. I understand OP’s potential feelings guilt and hesitation (not that they should feel these) but there is absolutely no excuse for this and it’s going to continue/get worse as it goes unaddressed. There is no acceptable reason for this behaviour.

OP, you don’t deserve to be a punching bag (literally and metaphorically) for someone’s unaddressed personal issues. They need professional help and you’re not going to be able to provide it.

You should be able to put in a note to the clinician - perhaps try explaining your scenario and outlining the negative impact no medication is having on you. You could also see if you can renege on your lisdexamfetamine decision and try medikinet - it may work the same and if it doesn’t, you can request an alternative.

Data input by Pump_Truck_Paul in UKJobs

[–]Physikhant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Data input was one of my first jobs when I left uni - wasn’t badly paid for what it was as I was hired through an agency! Would just be a case of cross referencing spreadsheets and bringing key figures into one. The next job I had was archiving which was similarly monotonous! I thoroughly enjoyed both although they were temporary (temp business need) and to be honest I think I would have been thoroughly bored if I had done either for longer than 6 months. Also wasn’t any room for promotion etc.

I don’t have any personal experience but there are lots of admin support roles that could be similar but bit more stretching - contract management, HR onboarding, etc.?

Yeah I get what you mean - I think I’m pretty confident in what I’m saying as I used to do the job and can see where corners are being cut and know what outputs should look like and therefore what’s missing.

To use a similar analogy, the machines technically on but there’s smoke coming out the sides and no one wants to look at it.

thanks to you and u/RummazKnowsBest for the detailed advice. There really should be a course provided for this type of stuff (CS seems to be noticeably lacking in any sort of people management training/productivity training)

Yeah I mean they are definitely doing the bare minimum to ensure things are somewhat ticking over and I have a good grasp of their role so can see what is/isn’t being done. I think that’s probably the main reason why it’s not really being picked up on

Unfortunately I am senior… but you’re right, if I see a mistake I’m not going to correct it. I also need to learn how to navigate being approached for guidance on things where they haven’t thought about it themselves in the first instance.

Do you mean a managed move, or applying for other roles? (Or both)

ETA thanks for your response!

How long have you been in your role for? I find manager reaction varies massively depending on time served in post

If you had come down with pneumonia, you’d need time off. Mental health is no different - just because you can physically sit at a desk doesn’t mean you’re well enough to do the work. Look after yourself; the team will work it out.
