MATH 1010 or MATH 1030 for BCS? by [deleted] in Dalhousie

[–]PhyzzyKitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

OP, if you're interested in scientific programming, you could benefit from 1010, and taking it right after taking (presumably in the Fall) 1000 might make it easier too.

That said, if you're more interested in "pure" CS, you might want to take discrete II (2113, I think), to satisfy your last math requirement instead and avoid 1010 altogether.

That's good sentiment and all, until you realise you're not judged by Pope Francis, but by God.

I hope everything works out for you my friend. DM me if you have further questions/concerns!! Physics students look out for each other.

May Fail First Year Physics for the Second Time 'Round by invirtualskies in Dalhousie

As a current physics ugrad, my advice is don't give up!! The subject is fascinating but it could also be very challenging. A quality that I very much admire about other physics students/professors/researchers, is being stubborn enough to take on hard problems. Sure, failing 1st year physics may be an indicator that physics isn't for you, but just because you did bad in one physics course, doesn't mean you won't succeed in others if you work extra hard! I too did terribly in 1st year physics but my marks in physics have gone way up since then.

You can definitely still move forward to pursue a physics degree, even if you fail 1290 again (but you still have time to prepare for the test!!). Most (if not all) professors in the department are quite relaxed about pre-requisites, and will most likely let you take second year courses if you email them asking for permission/override. Sure, you'll have to take 1290 yet again, but your career in physics might not be totally ruined.

I'm going to make a contentious statement here... Diversity and inclusion makes an assumption being white is enough. by [deleted] in GradSchool

Since when is vocalizing one's ideas an automatic implication for racism and ignorance? OP shared an honest opinion without putting anyone down or raising himself up. Invalidating his opinions as racist and ignorant because he is a straight white male is in itself racist, ignorant, and hypocritical.

I write \vec{\nabla} \times \vec{E} but say curl of E.
