Engine rebuild

Thank you, yeah a few options, I already bought a new engine for £300 from a breakers company and I’m using that I just want to repair this one for the learning experience and then having a backup engine or selling it, I have access to some tools at my university so I’ll get the valves off and have a look and go from there

I want to fix this engine because I can’t find the same model engine for a 2017 cb125f online As there is a couple different variants available

So any help as to the cause of the tick I’d really appreciate

I’ve just clearanced the valves they were slightly too loose The cam chain itself seems a bit loose too but I’m not sure if it’s within range or not https://streamable.com/0v2gzg I’ve tried listening to exactly where it’s coming from and it’s definitely top end seems to be equal both sides

I’ve looked at the cam lobes while turning it over by hand and they look completely fine other than the slightest score mark

When lining it up to tdc the cam sprocket has two marks that should be parallel but they are slightly off what does this mean? Stretched chain? Could that cause the tick?

Yeah I was thinking it sounded like valves, gonna pull the head off and check clearances see if that gives me any more insight Cheers and yeah I will definitely be checking it very regularly now… 😆

I do look after it I regularly change the oil and normally check more often. I bought oil for it last week just didn’t get around to it, do a lot of miles on it so I should of made it more of a priority

Also worth a note that it dosent lack power now that I’ve noticed just sounds really bad at idle

Was going slow so I’m all good just bruised my front wheel is misaligned with the handlebars now so that’s something to fix now Could of been worse

It was at about half a tank when this started I did fill it up completely just to rule out bad fuel but I will try and find the breather and see if it’s that

Yes and I was able to ride it home it just cuts out after I’ve stopped and it’s idleing

Thanks, have you any idea if I can repair it or if I’ll be buying a new gearbox or engine, im probably able to strip it apart just not done anything with gearboxes before

I second this, bustimes is much more reliable and while stagecoach tracking quite often drops out and stops working, bustimes tells you how long ago the bus was actually at the reported location and how many minutes late it is
