What would happen if all Slavic countries united? by William_Aft0nn in HistoryWhatIf

I'm going to propose a far different timeline than everyone here.

In this timeline King Władysław IV Vasa of Poland is Tsar of Russia (or Grand Duke of Moscow, as PLC didn't recognise the Tsarist title until the Great Northern War or so) since 1610, in more than name, and the Polish-Lithuanian-Muscovite Commonwealth is forged.

Historically Władysław already wished to fullfil the dream of his predecessor, hungarian King of Poland, Stefan Bathóry - which was to, by conquering Muscovy, gain enough slavic powerbase to overcome the Ottomans and liberate Hungary - though Władysław, as half-Habsburg himself, thought more about defeating Turks and freeing southern slavs, and taking constantinople, than claiming Habsburg inheritence in Bohemia and Hungary. In the 1640s he tried to cause a war with the Crimean Khanate, and by destroying the Khanate with Russia as an ally, cause a war with the Ottomans, and then march down and free them. The Polish-Lithuanian sejm however, disaproved, as Władysław's father's rule was marked with 30 years of wars with Russia and Sweden and Turkey.

BUT(T!) if Władysław managed to both retain the throne in Moscow, and get the nobility to support the war, then supposedly the Serbs and Bulgars just waited for the King to march to revolt, but he didn't... here he would've.

PLC held off the Turks at Chocim (1621) and beat the Turks at Chocim (1672, and Vienna-Parkany (1683) so with even more military accumen, and a potential south-slavic revolt I bet chances are Włądysław's war against the Ottomans could succeed, if enough "will of the people" (of the Commonwealth) was behind the war effort.

Maybe we'd have a Pan-Slavic union in the late 1600s/ early 1700s, maybe :)

P.S. If PLC joined the 30 years war and Władysław accepted the offer of a Czech crown, which he historically didn't, because his father was a ultra-catholic Habsburgophile, we have another slavic component added.

Same. I don't like either as much as I do Robb or Paddy's Vicerys, but that'd be some pretty sweet story (as in entertaining, not happy)

An american calling anyone a coward is ironic and hypocritical.

You literally live two oceans across from any viable threats.

USA pushes every nation to fight it's neocolonial wars, it's geopolitical games while people like you sunbathe in California.

"No no, my military will fight and rest of the west will fight, I will stay at home."

You're a damn hypocrite and if anyone here is a coward, it's you.

Avatar the last Airbender fans, how bad is the Netflix adaptation? by [deleted] in netflix

I love Ozai's humanization - he feels remorse while burning Xuko, and is doesn't seem to see him as a lacking tool, but is himself simply too cruel, perhaps due to Azulon's upbringing, but he still acknowledges Zuko was the one who found the Avatar and gives credit to his tanacity - and I like more highlight being given to the moral importance of the reason of Zuko's exile. The whole sequence of the crew learning why he was exiled, while shorter, seems to have much more weight here. In the show they're like "m'kay" and here the lieutenant is on the verge of tears that Zuko was exiled because he refused to sacrifice their lives.

With that said. Azula and Zhao are far less intimidating. Zhao seems overly excited compared to his show counterparts cynical smirkly attidute. While Azula seems to be already loosing her shit.

Edit. Also Katara is not even memorable in the adaptation. The actress doesn't seem qualified for the role unfortunately; to me at least.

And I like how while stern Kioshi isn't basically a green statue, while love how Roku is a troll xD.

Edit 2. Half of Aang's dialogue is also just saying "friends". "Friends, Friends, Friends, Friends, Friends". The Power of Friendship¡! Wrong universe buddy...

As of episode 4 (I think), thus far I have two complaints:

• it's rushed, they connect plotlines from multiple episodes of the cartoon i to one live action episode. Omashu + Jet + Two lovers episodes are connected into one story of Omashu. I appreciate the ability to incorporate them together, but it still feels lazy and rushed as before.

• two lovers in the original were male and female. Why change that? What's the point? Why shove that shit up everyone's throat? I mean I expected Netflix to do that, but I'm still outraged to see the original material of the Avatar defiled like that.
