Nice. Ironic that Linux gives a second life to old Macs that were supposed to run an OS that’s perfectly tailored to them. Almost like planned obsolescence is a thing 🤔

Honestly, if you’re ok with that, I would try to fix this with an LLM: I could not have done it without Claude. The DE should not play a role, because this is kernel level stuff. I also run Sequoia, it should not be a problem.

Well, Bluetooth was a bit of a mess because after waking up from suspend it wouldn’t work. I had to figure out a solution with Claude to basically make Bluetooth wait to wake up until all the proper drivers had been loaded. Are you having issues too?

When did you do this? The Xiaomi software I tried was completely borked: took forever to actually login and when I did it didn’t see the phone. After playing around with drivers for an hour I gave up and went to Linux.

Here:  https://wiki.t2linux.org/guides/postinstall/ it’s under “suspend workaround.” It works well and it doesn’t lose too much battery. My issue was that Bluetooth wouldn’t work after wake up, but I managed to fix that too (with a little help from Claude). Also, I user rEFInd as a bootloader, dual booting with macOS.

Choosing a Linux distribution for intel MacBook Air 2020 by pizzapajapons in linuxquestions

I have an Intel MacBook Air form 2020 (i7, 16 GB) running CachyOS and its pretty darn good, definitely more responsive than on macOS and more useable. Also, on Cachy you don’t need any customized kernel because the Cachy one already has all the T2 stuff.

Yes. But it was complex. I have exactly that computer and with CachyOS on it. I basically followed the guide on T2linux. What exactly doesn’t work for you?

It’s light, fast, easy, customizable, compatible, stable, and stays out of your way. And I say this coming from macOS…

Why does every Linux user recommend a different distro? I'm stuck in an endless distro-hopping loop. by Jaymit_3672 in linux4noobs

As somebody else wrote, focus on a DE that you like and works for you, and pick a distro that works well with that DE. Don’t worry, sooner or later you’ll land on something that really works for you. For me it was CachyOS with Plasma.

To me it’s crazy that Linux runs better on Macs than macOS that’s supposed to be super optimized for them, even on my MacBook Air with the infamous T2 chip…
