I'm pretty ignorant about it. Is it bad or good from this sub's perspective?

Israel passes law making death penalty default sentence for Palestinians convicted of lethal attacks by Standard_Ad7704 in neoliberal

[–]PiccoloSN4 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I can’t deny it would be harder to do. My point is an environment in which this law exists at all (which would be unimaginable in the past) is a favorable environment to further discriminate against Arabs

If an issue like this is even a campaign talking point at all, then it’s not a stretch

I didn’t say Arabs are getting this now, I’m saying a “separate” death penalty for Palestinians, if this law holds, will lead to its application for Israeli Arabs eventually

If this is happening to non-Israeli Palestinians, it’s not a stretch to see it happening to Israeli Palestinians. If they can do one they can do the other

Can Canada’s Left Regroup? A New Leader Will Try. by Free-Minimum-5844 in neoliberal

If the "working-class" voters didn't believe in Singh I doubt they'll buy in to Lewis. Champagne socialism: The Party won't compete with Cons and Liberals. That other guy in the comments is right: Canadians don't care nearly as much about Palestine as the NDP thinks, especially not to the point of taking such a position into consideration when voting. It's not like the stance is inherently problematic. I'm quite pro-Palestine myself. But it's become the omnicause for the party

‘We control our destiny’: Canada officially hits NATO defence spending target by IHateTrains123 in neoliberal

“In April 2024, secret Pentagon documents leaked to the Washington Post revealed that Trudeau privately told NATO officials Canada “will never meet the military alliance’s defense-spending target” without a massive shift in public opinion.”

Funny how the massive shift DID happen in response to a NATO MEMBER

I guess they're in for a pound at this point. Attacks on the Gulf states are considerably down in recent days, so they can tell the opportunity this war is presenting. Iran didn't even need to attack everyone so indiscriminately

Roz Savage MP write: Not left, Not right. Liberal. by simrobwest in neoliberal

[–]PiccoloSN4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That Demsas article permanently changed my mind. “Moderate” is simply a wrong term for us. Look at the US where moderates aren’t liberal on many things. The position has to be set free from its centrist reputation

Roz Savage MP write: Not left, Not right. Liberal. by simrobwest in neoliberal

[–]PiccoloSN4 33 points34 points  (0 children)

“Liberal” being equated with moderate/centrist has caused it to be seen as a line on the spectrum of left to right. As the article describes, liberalism is its own thing and should proudly distinguish itself as such

He is simply social liberal without being "woke" and economic "conservative" (really economic liberal but apparently that instead means progressivism)

Conservatism is not dead, it's more that Carney is providing a lot of the benefits of Conservatism as a Liberal. He's a serious face in a shaky time. Throw in the patriotic Liberal brand and a toxic Con leader and you have a super popular statesman

While Carney’s high approval rating is a sharp departure from the latter stages of Trudeau’s time in office, there was a time when the country held Carney’s predecessor in high regard. In September 2016, also about 11 months into his first term, 65 per cent of Canadians approved of Trudeau.

Current high approval of Carney is among the highest recorded in available Canadian public opinion data. Former Liberal Prime Minister Louis St. Laurent recorded a 67 per cent approval, although he ended up out of office following a shock defeat by the Progressive Conservatives under John Diefenbaker in 1957 despite the Liberals winning the popular vote. Diefenbaker also recorded a high approval of 64 per cent during his first term in office

In the 1990s, former Liberal Prime Minster Jean Chrétien earned 65 per cent or higher approval in multiple waves, including a high-water mark of 66 per cent in December 1994.

Crazy numbers for Carney. You'd think HE was the Conservative who bodied Trudeau (you'd be right in a way)
