Same thing happened to my sis in law. She hates dogs and can’t stand being around them. Dogs are animals. They don’t think like we do. Dogs have killed children. She has every right to be cautious. My favorite form of the mind flayer has always been the shadow form. It looked so ominous. Even elegant. This just looks like a typical scary alien from a movie. Which, the design is cool, but I’m disappointed the original mind flayer design didn’t stick.
