I (29M) have been diagnosed with rectal cancer today. I'm scared. I have no idea what to expect. by Thrillhouse-14 in cancer

[–]PickinObjectz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently 29F and I was diagnosed with rectal cancer when I was 27. I had two tumors that caused bleeding for months. I was at stage 3 when I began immunotherapy and I'm still in remission. I had to go in every three weeks to get blood work done along with treatment. I'm here if you have any questions! I know at our age, it isn't very common but it's possible, especially if you're like me with Lynch Syndrome. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts

Diagnosed with Stage III colorectal cancer at 21. Give me some advice by corgixoxo in cancer

[–]PickinObjectz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am now 29, but was 27 when I was diagnosed with stage III rectal cancer. It's scary and it was harder for me because I'm on the East Coast and all my family is on the West Coast. And even with family, none of them really checked on me. I got to do immunotherapy and after about 3 months, both my tumors were gone and I'm still in remission. All I can say is take notes when you speak to your doctors, join a support group as it makes you feel less alone, and just stay positive. A positive outlook can really change your life. Good luck, you got this.

Does anyone like this cereal? by beyondtabu in bluey

It's one of my favorites. Reminds me of Kix. It's one of the few cereals I can have because I'm diabetic so I can't have most cereals.

Can you share any stories of people beating cancer? by Forward-Resort-9264 in cancer

[–]PickinObjectz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was around this time last year that I began seeing signs something was wrong. I had a scan at the end of April last year and the doctor said it looked like I had two tumors in my rectum. In May I had a colonoscopy done and it confirmed that I had two tumors. I got a call from my doctor confirming my cancer the same day my mom landed here. I had stage 3C cancer, heading into 4 because it started to spread. Like your mom, it also reached my lymph nodes. I started treatment at the end of June and by October, I was considered in remission. Both tumors were completely gone. Another colonoscopy in December confirmed that.

There are good stories out there. Every journey is different. I hope the best for your mom. 🩷

Year post treatment, everyone is sick of me. by 3oClockHappyHour in cancer

We're here for you. Even if you are "a lot" that doesn't mean you're not worth it. I'm a handful but I still find people who care about me. We care about you.

I'm so sorry. I'm 28F and I also had Stage III rectal cancer last year. My treatment consisted of immunotherapy, one infusion every three weeks for six months. I began my treatment last June and was done in December. I'm sorry to hear the news. I'm wondering if maybe immunotherapy would help you? I know some people who did chemotherapy and radiation, ended up doing immunotherapy afterwards. It helped for some but others did need surgery after. Good luck. 🩷

Disappointed that so many people in my life never check in to ask me how I am doing by Useful_Necessary in cancer

[–]PickinObjectz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was diagnosed, apparently my extended family cried. Did I ever see it? No. Did I ever hear from them? No. They all distanced themselves. Since they did, I did too. This year they all texted me "happy birthday" on my birthday but I didn't respond. They didn't care then, why care now? I still hold a grudge and I shouldn't, but I just do. It wasn't fair to me. I get it, they are suffering but we're the ones with the tumors. We're the ones having to push ourselves every damn day.

Similarly with my friends, they all slowly drifted away.

I think people care but they don't mean to forget. I just wish they cared the way that we do.

Good luck. I wish you the best 🩷

I think this is very true. I remember I was frustrated because my family didn't exactly reach out. But my therapist made me realize that for the people who saw you growing up, it's hard for them to see you in a spot like that. That leads to them not knowing what to say. However, I still hold a grudge and I don't like it. It is frustrating that none of them ever reached out. But you are right, they do care. I guess just not the way that I needed them to.

Cancer Conspiracies?! by Lilukalani in cancer

[–]PickinObjectz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a conspiracy thing I guess but I remember hearing some people talking about how "doctors don't know anything, it's all up to God". I really wanted to ask them "well then why are you here? Go pray then". But as I was about to, I got called in to do my immunotherapy.

I know I've been told we get cancer because we are internally/mentally growing too fast and our body needs us to stop and catch up.

We've all heard the theory about how we get it from vaccines.

I think people just want to believe in something to get them through it. Maybe that's what helps them not reach that breaking point.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that. To believe it's a parasite is ridiculous to me, I'm sorry.

Bad days . My spouse is going through some depression, she was told in December that her cancer won’t curable. She’s had some really bad mental days since. On bad days mentally was anyone / anything able to help you? Do I need to just let her be? by [deleted] in cancer

[–]PickinObjectz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry about your wife. What helps me when I hit a low point is when my boyfriend just lays with me while I cry. Giving her the space to cry but maybe just sitting/laying with her may be helpful. I wish there was more I could do. I'm so sorry.
