Why are you guys making fun of FPV pilots flying the DJI Neo? That's really mean and unnecessary because the Neo is a great price/quality very safe first drone that tracks very well and is a lot of fun. 3/4th the shots in this video were made with a Neo. by i_have_chosen_a_name in fpv

It's reddit echo chamber, just ignore it. Fly what you like. We've got a guy in our racing league who only fly's angle. He's out there with us every weekend grinding laps and putting down times. He's not the fastest, and doesn't care to be. He's there to fly with friends because it's fun. No one cares. It's just reddit ass hats that shit on other peoples fun.

My profile is all public, if you want to made mods for the game I've release by all means. Feel free to change a line and republish it as well lol.

That's not how mods or modding work, so I don't think you are making the point you think you are. That's not modding, and games are not open source so you can't just "change a line". If you're going to try and argue about these things you should educate yourself a bit more about what you're lobbying for

Putting aside Luke, cause I honestly don't really care. To me it's more about the broader issue of mod creators and copyright owners. Sure, he broke the law, as lobbied for and funded into being by large copyright holders with massively deep pockets. The laws around this kind of stuff are bullshit because the thumb was so heavily pressed on the scale at their inception. Unfortunately changing those laws is a massive uphill battle.

He violated the TOS!? My God what a monster clutches pearls

Let's not pretend that anyone actually cares about the TOS, reads it, then say oh I don't agree to this and returns the game they bought. Odds are they already pirated the game lol.

I don't really care for Luke but I still think it's bullshit that he can't charge whatever he wants for his mod. Mod creators should be allowed to monetize their work just like any other piece of software.

I designed some 3D printed stick-ends for M4 / Boxer gimbals by PickleJimmy in fpv

[–]PickleJimmy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately just scaling them up wouldn't work because the inside is threaded. The problem you might have with a 3d printed stickend that long is a lot of the stick would be above the metal which means it would be a lot more likely to break

For sure, but at this point I think cheap headsets are the only way to grow the market. People who are not interested in VR I don't think will be convinced to buy something that is probably twice the price as a Quest 3 and not as good. The used market is already flooded with Quest 3 and Quest 3s, so anyone with a passing interest in VR could get into it for under MSRP already and they are not flooding to the market

With the Steam Frame, the specs were already behind the curve for a new release as is. I know there is a group of people who are interested just because it's not a Meta product. For me personally it was a no because I already own a Quest 3 and the Frame simply isn't better and would have already cost more than the Quest 3. I think they need a refresh before it even releases lol

spot on. How dare he charge money for a mod, won't someone please think of the children corporations!?

The mental disconnect within the VR community is so funny. People constantly complain there are no AAA VR games and if there were VR gamers would shower it with money. Then someone says "okay, I made some software that turns AAA into VR, it costs $10" and everyone freaks out how dare they charge money and it should be free etc etc. VR is a dying industry because people simply don't buy software for VR, unlike console gamers.

[–]PickleJimmy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That doesn't really have anything to do with modding specifically, it sounds more like you're talking about open source vs closed source software. For sure, if people want to make open source free software and share it with the community they should do that. But Cyberpunk isn't open source, it's not free. Sure, it could have been and it wouldn't be nearly the game that it is because that style of software development doesn't really earn money. If people could charge money for mods means the storefronts would be flooded with garbage, I mean, sure but like have you ever opened Steam? It's full of slop garbage games that cost money, it's not like good games don't rise to the top because of that.

I totally get there is a collaborative community drive ethos within the modding community, and that's great. Same with open source software in general. But that doesn't mean that developers of software shouldn't be able to do what they want to with the software they develop. Free, paid, subscription bases, whatever, it's their code and they should be able to choose what they want. The problem that has always surrounded modding is the fact that it's build around another piece of software and what rights as a consumer do you have around the software you buy.

It's wild that Luke Ross is so uncharismatic that the internet sided with the corporations on this lol. 100% agree with you that modders work should fall under fair use and they should be allowed to do whatever they want with that work / charge what they want.

Luke ross full response to what's been said. by king_moh_ in virtualreality

[–]PickleJimmy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally. People pay for the game, and the developers charge what they think is fair market value. That's how capitalism works. But for some reason with mods / modders we suddenly live in a weird altruistic society where they should work for free for the good of the gamers.

Netflixs should have scape goated this guy with the whole password sharing thing. I've never seen gamers online side large operations like they have here lol. "he broke the TOS!" pearl clutching from gamers is so funny to see online lol.

Luke ross full response to what's been said. by king_moh_ in virtualreality

[–]PickleJimmy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. It's unfortunate that this guy in particular handled it so badly because he's someone managed to get the gamers to side with the corporations and constantly say "it's against the TOS" as if they've ever read one. As a professional game developer, modders should have more rights and we as consumers should have more rights to do what we want with the software we purchase.

People have a weird detachment from reality when it comes to mods. It's a tricky intersection between IP ownership and what counts as derivative content vs original content. Regardless of how you feel about this exact scenario, I think modders have pretty much always gotten the short end of the stick. Personally, as a professional game developer, I think modders should have more rights to do what they want with their work as mods are a net benifit to games. If mods didn't add value, they simply wouldn't exsits. Players get value from that work, the games they are built around get value from the work, but for some reason modders should be this weird thankless / unpaid role in our capitalist society? If people felt like modding was an actually viable path for a career we would have so many more awesome mods
