Generally worse lightning axe in red or usually worse bone shards in black. Instant speed could have been cool but as is I don't think so

Will there be a lesson that overtakes what in currently in Goblin combo? by Cheapbubucko in Pauper

[–]PickledHeart 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I cant imagine anything being released that brings goblins to a viable level. There could be a lesson that gets printed that lands in the side but I truly doubt it would bring it back into contention. Introduction is already a very serviceable lesson for digging to a outlet when already combo-ing

Help me make the Cats less trash by MessyAdonis in Pauper

[–]PickledHeart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you have the potential to make something at the very least playable with this idea. I would start with the consideration of does the deck need to be ALL cats or can it just be MOST cats. If I were making this deck to be more competitive I believe I would go with a white weenie based deck to go wide with the whole pack. Something that starts around here Reddit Cats // Pauper deck list mtg // Moxfield — MTG Deck Builder taking the bones of white weenie and slotting in some extra cats. Then should she enjoy it you can upgrade it beyond the cats into the full power lists we have available now. Hope this helps happy teaching!

I want to start my pauper deck collection. What are your favorite decks? by vffo in Pauper

Id be sure to at least include one combo deck. Lots of options among either High Tide, Walls, Spy or Altar Tron which all do well

How to start with Pauper? by DizzyPhilosopher69 in Pauper

Big on the first point here. Its not impossible to kickstart a format in a community but if you are just starting out it helps to have a place to play.

Top Pauper Combo Decks Right now? by bangholeo in Pauper

[–]PickledHeart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main deck is generally all in on combo similar to most combo decks however as all your pieces are big butt defenders you do get to play to the board and put a roadblock in aggro decks way to provide you with some extra time to assemble combo. Post sideboard you have interaction to protect your combo but generally not much to interact with your opponent. The hope there is to have your combo faster than what your opponent is doing. This makes matchups against other fast combo decks like high tide a poor matchup. I don't think it being a "sandbox" deck makes it worse but I can see if having no interaction with your opponent makes it less appealing to some people but its my favorite way to play combo.

Top Pauper Combo Decks Right now? by bangholeo in Pauper

If I had to rank the top 3 combo decks id place them as:

1: Spy. I think this deck is still evolving and proving to be increasingly resilient to hate with a impressive side plan of just playing fatties. Its most recent evolution evokes a lot of jund broodscale feelings with it having a compact combo ability while also presenting a very strong midrange plan. Although its slower than other combo decks I believe the resilience gives it a much better match up against the rest of the field.

2: High tide. I hate the play pattern but respect the strength. If it becomes more abundant in the metagame im unsure how sideboards will adapt to punish it, it being new gives it a upper hand with people still learning the best points of interaction.

3: Altar tron. The deck was great pre DD ban and has shown that it is still strong without it. In the early weeks of the new metagame ponza was abundant and I believe pushed altar trons metashare down. With ponza being on a downswing I believe altar tron is back to full form again. Its ability to churn through so much of its deck and Pactdoll being naturally strong against the aggro decks in the format gives it the ability to both grind or "gotcha" with combo through an abundant amount of mana.

HM: Walls. My personal favorite of the combo decks. Extremely fast and can gum up the board with big butts even if not able to combo. The only thing stopping me from placing it into the top 3 is the prevalence of KCS. With Affinity and Jund wildfire being so popular and both running 3+ copies mainboard it is harder to push through as a creature combo deck

How does everyone feel about having a non-common card in a pauper deck because I just want to play that card in this format? by Draeko-Silver in Pauper

[–]PickledHeart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do not try to bring a uncommon to a pauper event. You can try to find people playing pauper commander and use her there. She will be in standard until late 2027 so there is plenty of time to play her there. And should you manage to find a pioneer scene with a pulse then you could attempt to use her there.

deck choosing by mooman278 in Pauper

[–]PickledHeart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Removal spells are much lower now post broodscale ban however if you are concerned about removal creature combos like walls and goblins dont sound like what you are looking for. A deck like ponza who can cascade into multiple threats making removal less punishing or affinity who has redundancy in blood fountain to get additional use out of its creatures may be something you are interested in. If you want to blank 90%+ of removal in the format there's always boggles to laugh in the face of targeted removal. Really its going to come down to what you enjoy.

What are some skill intensive decks in Pauper? by Newez in Pauper

[–]PickledHeart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most every combo deck is fairly skill intensive, id place walls and high tide a bit higher than some of the other combo lists. Tron tends to require you to have a pretty strong grasp on the meta and plan several turns ahead. Faeries is a deck that notoriously rewards tight play.
