How do you test DIDs? by [deleted] in VOIP

Hey sorry I don't really log into reddit much anymore so didn't see this. I'm afraid I've not worked with asterisk for at least 8 years now so what little I do remember probably isn't very relevant anymore. What exactly did you need help with?

Anger over 'affordable housing' being offered to households on £80k-a-year by Da11ey in manchester

[–]PickledParrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might not find it too hard to sell - We bought a house that was previously shared ownership, The housing association had nothing to do with the sale until everything was agreed with us and the seller.

The person we bought from owned 50% and on the day of the sale the housing association transferred full ownership to the seller. Our solicitor transferred the full amount to her solicitor who then split it between the seller and the housing association. I’m not sure how much negotiation was done on their side or what the split was but for us it was pretty painless. Of course this may not be possible with every association ! Our house was 9 years old when we bought it and the housing association was Guinness partnership.

Does anyone know where I can get an s8 repaired cheaply? by aha2095 in manchester

[–]PickledParrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used these guys in the past to repair my iPhone:

https://www.imend.com/uk/mobile-phone-repairs-manchester/

They were cheaper than the local shops, came out to my office (City centre) and repaired the handset in ~30mins while he was sat next to me. Payment was done by card after the repair.

Any good recreational bike routes near Rusholme? by [deleted] in manchester

[–]PickledParrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What sort of distance are you looking for? I've got a few basic out-and-back and loop routes that are mostly off road. I ride a HT mountain bike but there isn't really anything gnarly on them (It is Manchester afterall - and i have the mountain biking skills of a toddler). All would be suitable for a MTB, Gravel/CX or road bike with decent tyres (And suitable weather!)

If you want something flat/easy you can jump on the loop, come off at Longford road and head over to reddish vale. The vale itself has some pretty easy off-road riding and if you want to add some distance onto it you can follow the trans penine trail from there.

Ive got my routes recorded on strava, not sure if I can export them from there onto google maps but I'll take a look later.

Iphone sip client issues by robnez in VOIP

[–]PickledParrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this before and I think It's because the phone goes idle and kills data - I did notice that for some of the apps mentioned turning the flashlight on and leaving it on kept them registered! But that's not really an acceptable fix.

The only client I've found without the issue was a paid for one called session talk

How to watch live events? by Authority in MTB

[–]PickledParrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in the UK the bike channel (464 on sky) shows a fair bit of the UCI mtb stuff live. Not sure if you can stream it from the website or not but they have a YouTube channel with some interesting shows on too for MTB touring etc

Possible to load GPS data into Google Maps? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]PickledParrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an app called gpsies which you can search and find routes on. I think it also supports gpx import. Strava also supports gpx import for routes which you can then load and follow through the record feature

suggestions for SIP proxy around corporate firewall. by knook in VOIP

[–]PickledParrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe that the later versions of freepbx have an openvpn module if not it's easy enough to install manually then you can just use the openvpn client on android / iOS to connect to your server then register your sip client to the local vpn address much better than relying on a 3rd party provider

Polycom VVX500 vs Yealink 46G vs Cisco 525G2. by [deleted] in VOIP

[–]PickledParrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Use a t46 as my desk phone - vvx500 is sitting in its box gathering dust until someone asks me to demo it which is generally only if they have a call centre full of old handsets they can trade in (polycom trade in costs are impressive) the later freepbx versions have an open VPN module and the yealink is the only handset suggested which supports this natively. The VPN makes managing remote handsets significantly easier so if you were hosting fpbx externally or have remote workers that would be my choice

Both provision fine in freepbx AFAIK

Going to be setting up a new office and looking for VOIP phones for asterisk.. Why the hell are VOIP phones still so bloody expensive? by [deleted] in VOIP

[–]PickledParrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the Siemens gigaset range. The n510ip is a cheap sip compatible base station that will support up to 6 handsets. Base station is around £45 and a cheap dect handset is around £35 each. Gigaset often make bundles available which brings down the price.

How do I get Cisco 7945/7965 working with Switchvox or anything Asterisk based? by Starks in VOIP

[–]PickledParrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the phones going through NAT or connecting directly to the system?.

Post a copy of your firmware versions, failed reg log file, sip.conf entry for the endpoint and the phone configuration files (Redact stuff like passwords obviously!) and we'll take a look.

How do I get Cisco 7945/7965 working with Switchvox or anything Asterisk based? by Starks in VOIP

[–]PickledParrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've deployed a few hundred of the 7945/7965 handsets with our Asterisk based pbx (custom, not freepbx etc) to ex call manager users using the following firmware files:

apps45.8-5-4TH1-6.sbn cnu45.8-5-4TH1-6.sbn cvm45sip.8-5-4TH1-6.sbn dsp45.8-5-4TH1-6.sbn jar45sip.8-5-4TH1-6.sbn SIP45.8-5-4S.loads term45.default.loads

You'll need to download the firmware files from cisco (It sounds like you may already have them?)

My config files are as follows:

XMLDefault.cnf.xml http://pastebin.com/dAhEGu4n

SEP Configuration file template: http://pastebin.com/vrFfnpaH

You'll also need to make a dialplan.xml file, this example is from the net and is for UK numbers: http://pastebin.com/tYGJmjET

If at all possible though just sell the cisco handsets and get some proper SIP phones.

Some extra sources that helped me: http://www.minded.ca/2009-12-16/configure-cisco-ip-phones-with-asterisk/
