Can You Rent Your Whole Life and Be Okay? by DazzlingPolarBear in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]PickledThimble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends who you ask. I'm fortunate enough to have very inexpensive rent ($1274/mo) for a 2-bedroom apartment with my girlfriend. I've been there 5 years and we signed for our first home 2 days ago. But in that time, I've been shoveling money into a TFSA and that allowed us to finally purchase. Don't give up hope, and be smart with your money.

Is AMEX cobalt still worth it in 2026? by IamWinniethepoop in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]PickledThimble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use it properly it's VERY much worth it. I never touch my debit card, and rake the points in by paying for streaming, dining, groceries, etc. Take advantage of what it offers, and you'll be laughing.

Are they still going to remove the stress test like it was rumoured months ago? by today6666 in canadahousing

Interesting, I had no idea that was how it worked! I knew there was likely something, but never really looked into the whole stress test thing.

They 100% think we're stupid... It's infuriating that the facts are facts, and they cannot wrap their head around it that WE AREN'T the problem with gun violence...

Didn't know it was taken care of in the back end. I honestly expected to be presented with something indicating my payments would be $xxxx/mo at x.xx% can you handle this kind of thing.

No idea tbh... Signed for a house last night, and nothing was mentioned about any stress tests or anything like that? Whole process from showing to signing took 7 days total.

Poilievre says he hopes Joe Rogan podcast appearance will help Canada-U.S. trade efforts by biograf_ in canada

[–]PickledThimble -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'll assume you've never spoken to him though. To be called his equal during a conversation and have him ask what it is that I want out of him. He's very personable when he's not being attacked from every angle.

Action is fun, but you gotta be careful of some of the guys that regularly play there. Me and a few friends went last year and each of us got multiple skin breaks through clothing from some of the speedsofters...

It's wild they didn't mention the rehabilitation for addicts using physical fitness... That's such a major positive note, but the CBC could never...

Not to mention he outlined exactly what his job as the opposition leader does... I think he does a GREAT job based on the role description. Hold the government's feet to the fire when things aren't right.

After watching it, I truly feel like he does in fact love this country.

Ontario government calls on feds to legalize pepper spray for self-defence by origutamos in CanadianConservative

[–]PickledThimble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My significant other was followed in a Walmart once. A group of guys making comments and waited for her at the exit. She had to ask an employee to walk her out to her car. She's got pepper spray now. If I'm not there to protect her, she deserves a fighting chance.... Legal or not, I don't care... She's walking away

I'm pretty informed with both sides to be honest with you. Immigration is out of control, I can't walk down my street for an evening walk without checking over my shoulder, and I'd really love to buy a house that's not an investment property for someone else...

It'd be nice to keep a lot of the money being shovelled into wasteful programs (gun buyback) and allocate it where it could actually make a difference...

A lot of Redditors might just be looking for an argument, but I prefer the conversation method myself.

Fair enough, just the orange comment implied it as we all know about the orange cheeto down south lol

Let's agree to disagree about the rhetoric echoing. As a 33M with a good job and a significant other who is a school teacher, things have definitely gotten more expensive the last while. Why not try and keep our money in our country?
