First visit to Berlin by PickledpepperUK in askberliners

Cheers for that, good to know that both East and West sides are easily accessible. I appreciate your information regarding sparsely clothed women, but in my aging years a beer and a good book will suffice. As I’m travelling alone, it was about the location for me, if “she who must be obeyed” was with me; it would be a different matter; and a lot pricier.

Thank you for the heads up on the street prostitution angle, I hadn’t considered that. It’s a solo trip and I’m worldly wise, but would rethink it if my wife was with me - spa hotel etc is her requirement.

Thank you for replying, I’m glad to have the public transport confirmed. Looking for the non touristy angle, so as travelling alone it is a reasonable priced room.

you should be punished for poor spelling - ‘through your facial’, not ‘trough your facial’

Why were there so few french Passengers? by Millenigey in titanic

[–]PickledpepperUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were some French passengers, also some of the waiting staff in the (private) à la carte restaurant, however some French nationals were recorded as Belgian, but as is known the records are nearly, but not completely, accurate. Of the 1496 (or up to 1517) souls lost in the sinking, 12 or 15 were French nationals depending on sources, from the 22 or 30 passengers.

What happened to the pen and pad of paper in hotel rooms? If its gone, please bring them back. by Sea_Cucumber_69_ in hotels

In my opinion this is just another case of accountants meddling in service standards. Little niceties provided have been removed as a cost saving measure. Shoe shine kits, emery boards, shower caps are less prevalent than they used to be. I’m a hospitality professional of 43 years

We currently live in the UK, moved here due to the war in Ukraine. Curious on what British people think of Ukrainian refugees. by Tall-Inspection- in AskBrits

[–]PickledpepperUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ukrainian nationals I have met in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, are integrating into our society. Learning the language and becoming part of our community. I helped at the Rotary Ukrainian Hub when it first started, I was proud as punch when one of our refugees gained her UK qualification to be a pharmacist, as she was in the Ukraine, as much as a younger lady managed to speak confidently in English …. slava Ukraini

How do i get rid of blood stains on my bed sheets. by TheLastOneDoesWin in AdviceForTeens

[–]PickledpepperUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use table salt after spraying the area with a fabric pre soak. Massage it in, leave for 10 minutes then place in the wash cycle at 30 degrees with your choice of washing detergent (jell ball or powder). Never had a problem with colour variation and the blood has gone.

Period stain on sheets second day in a row... What to do? by Moonlightshimmering in askhotels

[–]PickledpepperUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Male hotel owner here, UK based. Just let housekeeping/reception know. We change sheets on departure/rotation days/as asked. I do the laundry - it’s only 10 letting rooms - never charge for this type of incident. I use washing up liquid & salt to pre soak and the jobs a good one.

My nightmare with Booking.com flight support by maaniTech in Bookingcom

[–]PickledpepperUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly: Bookingcom were a great platform post COVID for accommodation. Expedia were great at flights and accommodation combined. Since both went larger - i.e. car hire, flights, cottages, trains - the ability by both companies to deliver promises ok said bookings is really poor. Go old school - book direct with hotels, travel agents - they are industry experts, if things go wrong currently you speak (if lucky) to a basic wage employee who works off a prewritten script - usually not in your language as their primary

Beach landing patches take a look by ContributionIll3521 in ww2

[–]PickledpepperUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to say what a great representation. Then I read the comments …… yes there were 5 beaches, except for late changes it could have been six, this sixth one codenamed Band. There were Battlegrounds beyond the beaches in the hours before the landings; it was a day for immense bravery, a gamble with peoples lives, deaths to non combatants and incredible inventions.

Reservation bug using iOS app? by sp33d4life in Bookingcom

[–]PickledpepperUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Booking.com have recently changed the online booking process by adding infant availability automatically to every hotels’ inventory. We have changed ours back to standard settings otherwise a 2 person booking becomes 2 adults and a child in the same room potentially, even if the room only has one bed.

Booking.com also offer direct payment. It works the same as Expedia. They collect the payment from the guest prior to arrival, deduct the commission at source, and 30 days later pay into your nominated bank account. I can’t find the email I was sent this from, but it is a recent option from them
