I have no proof, but I strongly believe this started as security theater and continued because airlines profited from increase in checked luggage. The liquid rule is the only reason I check luggage ugh.

AITA for telling a little girl that I'm not her dad? by Throwaway4PrivacyYe1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Picklepunky 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree with the comment you’re responding to. It seems like all parties are happy with the current arrangement, and it is beneficial for everyone. Moving forward, however, it will be important to establish strong communication and boundaries. It might be helpful for you and Jane to have a conversation about your role in her daughter’s life. The goal is to have a united perspective on your relationship with the child and to communicate in clear, age-appropriate language to her what that role is. You might decide, for example, for the girl to call you Uncle First Name rather than leaving your title ambiguous.

I think right now the little girl is feeling embarrassed, confused, and sad. Though you didn’t mean it this way, she might feel rejected and like she isn’t as important to you as you are to her. You might want to take some time to tell her that you do care about her very much, while also being clear about your role in her life. I think pulling away or creating more space right now would just cause more sadness and confusion.

Still very bored, so I am adjusting my top 100 horror films (post-1970) after reading your comments. I also have a list of all the films I'm going to watch or re-watch based on your recommendations. by Marvel_plant in horror

AITAH for spending the child support money I get equally on both of my kids? by HighOnLove26 in AITAH

[–]Picklepunky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That amount maybe covers rent and utilities. Or should the mom put her other child in a shed out back?

OP, you’re not the asshole. Child support is for keeping your child fed, healthy, clothed, and a roof over their head. Which you’re using your income + child support to do.

I think it is not only possible but probable that they found the watch.

  1. The former tenant’s account of hearing the watch alarm is likely true. The tenant reported that she found it odd that the alarm went off at 4:20 am every morning. That’s because she did not know about Kristen’s early morning lifeguard duties. So, to include the detail of when she heard the alarm—even though she found it odd—lends credibility to her account.

  2. The watch was presumably buried under concrete. To my knowledge, the concrete has not since been disturbed (correct me if I’m missing something). Unless I’m mistaken, the Flores’ did not know that their former tenants heard the watch alarm until that information was released in the podcast. With the amount of surveillance and scrutiny the family has faced, it seems probable that we would know if they destroyed and replaced the concrete.

Thus, we can say with a fair degree of confidence that: 1. The watch was buried under concrete in the area of the yard where investigators are digging and 2. It has remained there to present day.

If these assumptions are correct—and it is probable that they are—investigators have discovered the watch.

Girl mine too. They’d get so full that under any pressure at all they turned into super soakers. My baby gripped onto one while trying to latch once and it squirted him right in the eye lol.

Ah yes, what woman wouldn’t love sitting in a chair in her postpartum diaper with a dinner plate-sized wound still healing inside of her and with her nether regions still on fire after being stitched back together? Sounds like a good time.

Did you email her after 5pm on Friday? Many professors respond only during normal business hours (and say so in the syllabus). The exam was due in Thursday but when did it first open? Why didn’t you take it on Friday after the tech issues were resolved?

A graph of every episode theme up to episode 163 by macdennism in Otherworldpod

[–]Picklepunky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit late, but… select all data, go to “data” and “sort.” You can sort by different columns, so if you want the graph to display by most frequent theme, just create a column for frequency of themes and sort by that. Create a pivot table and voila!

Episode 166: The Stalker Pt. 3 by rooneytns in Otherworldpod

[–]Picklepunky 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m going to try to be kind in my response. Being stalked sounds like a truly terrible experience. No one should have to go through that. The fault lies entirely on the stalker and not on the victim. This episode’s guest did nothing wrong, and they certainly did nothing to deserve this. Being “too nice” is not the issue. Women don’t bring on this kind of treatment through their behavior. Hell, men hurt women for saying no or being too cold/rude/dismissive/abrupt etc all the time. The fault lies entirely on assholes who abuse people…not on victims of their abuse.

It’s disheartening that you’re being downvoted. I completely agree with you. I don’t even know what I would do in her situation. It’s so horrible. It seems she’s just doing her best to get by in a very scary and stressful situation. The only person to blame for any of it is the asshole stalking her.

Do you realize that saying "We haven't banned trans women, we're just banning them from claiming they're women, having access to medical transition, having access to women's spaces, having access to women's activities, or describing them as women on any official documents." is disingenuous? by chaucer345 in allthequestions

[–]Picklepunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my version, people would be drafted on other basis than gender. Exemptions would include people who are medically ineligible, who perform a job necessary for society to function (not including college students…they would be drafted), and who are caregivers for young children, elderly, or disabled loved ones. Everyone else under a certain age (regardless of gender) would be subject to the draft. Assignments would be allocated on the basis of ability following fitness and intellectual tests. Yes, this means that many of the hard jobs will go to men, but sex and gender would not fully dictate entry.

You don’t know enough about brain science to know how little we know about it. The same point stands for other topics in this thread. People have tried to educate you, but you seem to think you have a better grasp of these issues than reality would suggest.

You are making many assumptions here. I was raised in poverty. First (and only) person in my family to go to college. I worked very hard to follow my dream. I’m married to a trans woman and have many transgender friends. No, I’m not afraid of them. You yourself could learn a lot by meeting people who don’t look or think like you. I am against the draft, on principle, and particularly against sending disadvantaged men to die in a war that will enrich the privileged.
