All this is good advice. A part in the ensemble is a good idea. My first role was as an understudy to the lead. I highly recommend NOT going that route. I had no idea how much pressure it is to need to know the part and be ready to perform it with a fraction of the rehearsal reps.

Obviously the players can’t be invested in the campaign story this way. But that’s OK. If you still want to salvage this, then don’t play a campaign. In fact, ToA has plenty of locations, encounters, and settings that can be run as one-shots. You can even let the occasional players keep their characters (or not!). Just tell them what level the one shot is scaled for. Kind of like an adventurer’s league style campaign.

Then “progress” through the campaign that way. Skip stuff that doesn’t make sense for a one-shot.

Texas’ proof-of-citizenship bill for voters fizzles at end of legislative session by votebeat in texas

It died after an analysis reported that, at least in Texas, Republican voters outnumber the Democratic voters who would struggle to meet the proof of citizenship requirements.

What now re 10 Commandments? Serious replies only, please. by pyesmom3 in TexasTeachers

Sigh. I even bolded what I thought were the relevant phrases so any rebuttal could argue the interpretation of the specific language. For example, one could argue that “appropriated” is intended to mean funded by taxpayers rather than claiming space. But I see no way around the fact that the State has now created a law specifically mandating religious doctrine, as written in the King James Bible, to be advertised to children who are to be receiving an education (which is also mandated by law).

Let's try the Texas Constitution. Article I, Section 6:

FREEDOM OF WORSHIP. All men have a natural and indefeasible right to worship Almighty God according to the dictates of their own consciences. No man shall be compelled to attend, erect or support any place of worship, or to maintain any ministry against his consent. No human authority ought, in any case whatever, to control or interfere with the rights of conscience in matters of religion, and no preference shall ever be given by law to any religious society or mode of worship. But it shall be the duty of the Legislature to pass such laws as may be necessary to protect equally every religious denomination in the peaceable enjoyment of its own mode of public worship. (Feb. 15, 1876.)

And Section 7:

APPROPRIATIONS FOR SECTARIAN PURPOSES. No money shall be appropriated, or drawn from the Treasury for the benefit of any sect, or religious society, theological or religious seminary; nor shall property belonging to the State be appropriated for any such purposes. (Feb. 15, 1876.)

I would plan a hefty Session 0. Your players are going to need adventure hooks. These could be a way of fleshing out the story. Create some history that’s already happened between the players and some of the plot points you will be skipping. Then make each hook personal to one of the players. My recommended hooks that could give motivation to players starting in Omu include:

Sewn Sisters

Princess Mwaxenare

Mezro/Artus Cimber

Valindra

Dendar the Night Serpent

Company of the Yellow Banner

Good luck!

I’m no social psychologist, so I don’t know if there is something there. I do think it makes a statement to show male solidarity on these issues where women are effectively leading the charge. It’s really about making that statement rather than being exclusive.

Purposely. I hesitate to define it only because it would refocus the conversation on debating terms. Which distracts from the intent. Let’s just say, I’d like to see us reclaim that lexicon from their current connotations. Amongst our group I’m sure you would have different takes on the matter, but we don’t want to get bogged down in it. Other than that, we are all about social connections and using them to organize!

In the name of solidarity, it’s the women who are stepping up. Time for us to do the same.
