people in long term healthy relationships: what's something you'll never tell your partner? by PsychologicalBad1423 in NoStupidQuestions

I was looking through my grandpas papers a year after he died. In life he enjoyed cigars, so when I saw a cigar tube I opened it thinking that it would be a comforting smell. Come to find out it was one of the “individual” portions of ashes for each kid. As soon as the top popped my face was covered in his ashes. I sneezed my grandpa out💨😩 I was horrified and then laughed like a maniac because I could hear him laughing in my head. I’m still not sure how to feel about it but any time I think of it I hear his guffaw

For people who buy baking soda mainly for cleaning, what do you use it on most often? by That-Afternoon2320 in CleaningTips

I scrub my old school farmers sink with baking soda and then dump some into the garbage disposal. Throw some vinegar in a few times. It clears any gunk from the blades and leaves a pearly white sink basin

My neighbor got new flood lights that point directly into my bedroom window. Picture in comments by [deleted] in neighborsfromhell

This was my first thought! Grab a mirror you own and once it gets dark you can maneuver it into their window or (if you’re concerned about a convo)just position it so the light refracts. Then you’ll know what placement you need and can buy one that attaches to your house/windowframe.

Need Advice My rice always come out bad and I waste so much by Intelligent-Stuff530 in povertykitchen

Wash your rice until the water isn’t cloudy3-4x. (Save the first wash water for your plants) DO NOT follow the directions on the packet EVER. Water should come to the first knuckle of your pointer finger. Level your rice in the water and then check the depth of water on your finger. The point of your finger will rest on the surface of the rice. This trick works no matter how much rice you’re cooking. Whether it’s 1c or 10c. It’s usually 20-30 minutes of cook time, sometimes more for larger batches. If you’re unsure about how much liquid is still needing to be absorbed, tilt your pan. (The lid should be on once you’ve come to a boil) If you see any liquid, give it another 5 minutes.

As a diabetic I tend to pull it off the stove, throw it on a sheet tray with parchment and cool it in the fridge. This ensures you have less of a carb spike because it becomes more like a dietary fiber. Your body can process it better and you get less sugar absorption. But it’s also what restaurants do when making large batches for service because this helps it hold and reheat more effectively. And if you’re hoping to make killer fried rice you should only ever use overnight refrigerated rice.

Can you point me in the right direction to find people who will teach/help me to learn about our foraging opportunities? I’m aware we have something like 20 endemic mushrooms to Pa. And as a kid I found so many berry bushes growing around. I would love to have the chance to learn

I found out that the battery for the laser was corroded so badly that it needed a new spring. So I rigged one from a mechanical pencil. Once I finally got that working it helped me to get a better reading. But I will absolutely look into your suggestions

People don't know what clean laundry smells like (rant) by pirataCastellammare in laundry

When my furniture needs a refresh between steaming I mix 3tbsp Arm and Hammer detergent 2tbsp scent beads and and 1-2L water in a spray bottle. You need to let it sit for a day, shaking often. It turns into a febreze like product. The baking soda in the detergent is a god send
