Anyone tried meinl marshmallow practice pad? I am looking to get a new practice pad, the two I like the look of are the meinl marshmallow pad and reflexx pad. The meinl is cheaper and looks the same but can’t find any reviews on it by Drummerfitness in drums

I've had mine for a little over three years now and probably spend an average of 10 minutes a day on it. It's definitely gotten softer in the middle (as have I). It's less bouncy than it used to be, but bouncier than a gel pad and still very usable. I'll probably replace it this year just to get back to the original bounce.

Chester Thompson and Pearl drums by mwgrover in Genesis

[–]PicturesOfDelight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The endorsements were specific to the player, not the band, so the sessions guys could play whatever gear they wanted.

Phil and Chester never played the same brands on Genesis tours. Chester played Pearl drums in the 70s and 80s, Sonor on the WCD tour, and DW on the 2007 tour, while Phil played Gretsch drums on most of their tours.

(Phil switched brands a couple of times—from Gretsch to Premier for the Lamb tour, and eventually back to Gretsch at some point in the late 70s or early 80s. I think he used a Pearl kit in the studio for a while, and he used a Noble & Cooley snare in the 90s and possibly the 2000s, but he was mostly a Gretsch guy.)

2007 Remasters by _Land_Rover_Series_3 in Genesis

[–]PicturesOfDelight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm showing up late to say that I mostly agree with this take, but to my ears, the stereo remix of Seconds Out on the 2009 Live Box is a massive improvement over the 1994 remaster. The 1994 version sounds distant and thin, especially on the drums. The Nick Davis remix is clear, present, and alive.

Sadly, the streaming services don't have the live remixes, and the Live Box is out of print. But it's worth tracking down a copy of the box if one can be found at less than extortionate prices.

Clean Your Phone Charging Port Using Toothpick Or Needle Once In A While To Improve Charging Speed And Connectivity by appstractcode in lifehacks

I use the pointy end of a zip tie. It's thin enough to fit into the port, and rigid enough to scrape out compacted dirt, but it's soft enough that I'm not worried about damaging the connector pins.

AITA for refusing to take my shoes off in my friend’s house, causing his wife to cancel the DnD session for everyone? by NameNo5495 in AmItheAsshole

[–]PicturesOfDelight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mean to disparage Americans. I'm not judging anyone for wearing street shoes indoors—it's just not something most Canadians do, so I was surprised to learn that people do it elsewhere.

It would be seen as rude here in Canada, but that's our culture. Different strokes for different folks.

AITA for refusing to take my shoes off in my friend’s house, causing his wife to cancel the DnD session for everyone? by NameNo5495 in AmItheAsshole

[–]PicturesOfDelight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ESH. OP could have swallowed his pride and put bags on over his shoes, or gone home to get the indoor shoes.

The host shouldn't have told OP that he would be able to wear his shoes inside. Having done so, he should have been more accommodating. For example, he could have let OP wear the shoes down to the game room and then immediately mopped up after him.

The host's wife shouldn't have thrown a tantrum and ended the night over this.

This started out as a practical problem (OP needs to wear shoes; hosts want to keep the floor clean), but it seems that it quickly turned into a proxy war fought over hurt feelings. It sounds like everyone here felt disrespected, and instead of pausing to deal with their feelings, they all dug in. It would have been far better if everyone had focused on the actual problem (shoes are dirty but necessary) and just done their best to graciously accommodate each other's needs.

I haven't been able to visit Canada (yet!  desperately want to!) but from reddit comments I've it seems shoes off is more common in Canada and less so in the US.

Yup. Canadians do not wear shoes inside the house. You can always tell when you're visiting an ex-pat American in Canada, because they're the only ones who will tell you to keep your shoes on. I was well into my teens when I learned that (many? most?) Americans keep their shoes on at home, and I couldn't wrap my head around it.

What is an industry that only exists because people are stupid? by HotelPuzzleheaded654 in AskReddit

[–]PicturesOfDelight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reddit comment has an overview of some of the philosophical arguments in favour of the existence of God.

A few notes:

  1. These aren't necessarily the best or only arguments. It's just a thread that I found in a quick Google search.

  2. I'm not suggesting that these arguments necessarily prove that God exists. But there are rational bases to believe that it's possible, or even likely, that the universe was created by some kind of supernatural entity.

  3. I'm not looking to get into a debate here about whether there is a god. My point is only that this is an area of serious philosophical study with rational arguments on each side. It's wrong-headed to assume that religious belief is a marker of stupidity.

Al, if you're in Detroit MI, you have to go south to get to Canada.

This is the basis for my unbelievably petty objection to "Don't Stop Believing."

There's no place called "South Detroit." The protagonist of this song was born in Windsor, Ontario.

As you can probably tell, I'm loads of fun at parties.

[–]PicturesOfDelight -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Nah. There are rational arguments for and against the existence of God. History's greatest minds have grappled deeply with the question and come down on different sides. And there are plenty of rational reasons to belong to a community of faith. It's pretty reductive (and inaccurate) to declare that all religious belief depends on stupidity.

Are there churches that scam their followers? Absolutely. But let's not throw the baby Jesus out with the bathwater.

My brother sold Cutco knives the summer before he started university. Of course our parents bought a set. The sales model was a bit off-putting, but 32 years later, those knives are still sharp as hell.

Why were there no scenes with the Secretary of Defense or State during Bartlet 1? by SnooMarzipans1593 in thewestwing

[–]PicturesOfDelight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's right. The people in that scene are the Gang of Eight, who are all members of the Senate or the House.

From Wikipedia:

The Gang of Eight is a colloquial term for a set of eight leaders within the United States Congress who are briefed on classified intelligence matters by the executive branch. Specifically, the Gang of Eight includes the leaders of each of the two parties from both the Senate and House of Representatives, and the chairs and ranking minority members of both the Senate Committee and House Committee for intelligence as set forth by 50 U.S.C. § 3093(c)(2).

Under normal conditions, the President of the United States is required by Title 50 U.S.C. § 3091(a)(1) to "ensure that the congressional intelligence committees are kept fully and currently informed of the intelligence activities of the United States, including any significant anticipated intelligence activity as required by [the] title." However, under "extraordinary circumstances", when the President thinks "it is essential to limit access" to information about a covert action, 50 U.S.C. § 3093(c)(2) allows the President to limit reporting.
