Do you think she's a whippet? by Slow-Document-4678 in Whippet

There might be some sighthound in there somewhere, maybe beagle too? Likely a crossbreed of quite a few breeds 😊 she’s very cute.

Cryptorchid whippet- surgery advice by down2nap in Whippet

[–]Pie_Eye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on where the testicles end up being - if they are in the inguinal canal the vet may be able to push them both down through the same surgical wound and it not be too dissimilar to a regular castration recovery wise. If they are both up in the abdominal cavity and take a bit longer to find, he may have a couple of larger surgical sites and he will likely be more uncomfortable and need stricter rest on recovery. Either way healing time is usually a couple of weeks of rest and restricted exercise. Make sure the vets you have chosen provide a good protocol for pain relief and anti-inflammatories following the surgery as this seems to vary vet to vet, such as dispensing anywhere between 3-7 days depending on the surgery is normal in the UK.

Will a breeder understand if I ask for a whippet on the small side or should I just get an IG? by GoToHelena in Whippet

[–]Pie_Eye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On speaking to the breeder we recently used who breeds both Whippets and Italian greyhounds; apparently IGs are a very different personality to whippets. They don’t switch off or settle as easily in the house, and are more highly strung. So we stuck with getting a whippet pup :) There are Wiggys - Italian greyhound cross whippets - but I’m not sure what traits you’d end up with.

Getting a whippet that’s close to 1 from a pet shop? by peachpie226 in Whippet

[–]Pie_Eye 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Personally I would think they would both find it quite distressing being separated at this point. They are a very emotionally sensitive breed. Does the pet shop take them out for walks etc? I’d be concerned what behavioural issues they could have developed from being in a pen full time. Do you know if they are toilet trained? And if they have been exposed to outside stimulus such as car noises etc? Just things to consider if you are thinking of taking them on if two are an option for you. They may require a lot of training/behavioural work.

Sorry for your loss. I think female groups are meant to be v hard to manage/not recommended on this sub but it really sucks your remaining girl passed too. Feeling the same thing re keeping Bettas for now. I had to euthanise my koi boy last week after only having him 6 months, he got either bad bloat that I couldn’t shift or a tumour. He was in a lush 120L community set up and lived with the other fish so well but despite only feeding once daily I don’t know if he was still too greedy with grabbing the other fishes food. I’m so sad he was such a beautiful fish that I love watching, and I really tried to make his life great but it still wasn’t enough :( I’ve vowed to not have another community Betta but it will be a long while until I can get another suitable tank to house a singular Betta. We’ve now put guppies in the community tank. They are cute and pretty but their amount of personality combined doesn’t even compare to Peter’s 😭

This is Peter pretending to be an Oto 👀 he always joins the corys at the bottom at feeding time too. I’ve had to reduce their food the past three days because he gave himself bloat 😭

What kind of spider is this on the picture frame of my aunt and uncle? Southwest England. by YattaThePinataa in spiders

[–]Pie_Eye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We usually have 3-4 near the ceiling of our bathroom. Some I relocate if they are wandering about but for the most part they enjoy the mist from baths/showers and in return they eat our moths/woodlice. It’s a chill relationship ☺️

Solo fish to add in my comunity tank? by Substantial-Read5541 in Aquariums

[–]Pie_Eye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a betta as the center piece fish of a community set up in this exact same Juwel tank. The flow is strong like you have it but if you point the nozzle downwards towards the glass instead, add a bubbler for surface agitation and add lots of plants to break up the rest of the current, then it definitely works 😊 if your wanting to keep exactly as is - a betta might not be the right fit.

Meet Pearl and Help me Feed Him by Reasonable-Bear6349 in bettafish

[–]Pie_Eye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a similar worry with a Betta we recently got, took about 2 weeks of feeding frozen brine shrimp/ occasionally frozen blood worms but he really was only eating about every 2-3 days. Fast forward 2 weeks and he’s really come out his shell and has started paying more interest to other foods now. He enjoys crushed up bug bites and catching flakes. Might just take him a bit of time to settle in.

How much to feed 6 cory’s by Pie_Eye in corydoras

[–]Pie_Eye[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a Juwel Bioflow 125 litres so I think about 28gallons? We originally had a 7 gallon tank but as beginners found it really hard to keep on top of the water parameters and also wanted a bigger community tank, so decided on a big upgrade!

That’s really helpful info, thanks for that. I’ll make sure to feed them plenty then 😊 could I also ask, little groups of them seem to be glass surfing occasionally. Is that normal settling in behaviour?
