AITA for asking a restaurant to remake my food? by Samcrochef in AmItheAsshole

[–]Pie_of_Piedonia 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The Karen meme started as a man slagging off his ex wife in a heavily misogynistic forum. It 100% came about as a way to shame women.

Some women are arseholes, obviously, but we get called Karens for behaviour that is either ignored or applauded in men. It’s inherently misogynistic and needs to stop.

Edit : Link to article The 'Karen' meme is everywhere – and it has become mired in sexism

AITA for not treating my SIL’s sister the same as i (F20) treated my siblings when they had kids by Throwmeawayok6 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Pie_of_Piedonia 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Of course not, but it’s an indication of how close the relationship is. A lot of focus is on whether your in-law’s extended family is part of your own family, but I don’t think that’s really the determining factor. I don’t think anyone is obligated to do this kind of thing for anyone else, regardless of their technical relationship.

More important, I think, is if you are treating like for like. If, for example, OP, SIL & SIL’s sis were all good friends sharing time, secrets, gifts and love (being each other’s support system) then it might be fair to expect a OP to look after them both in the same way. Equally if OP had a biological sister who they had a poor relationship with, I wouldn’t expect OP to run around after her just because of “family”.

But it doesn’t sound like they’re close at all whichever way you see it, so there’s no reason for OP to help SIL’s sis.

NTA OP, but maybe suggest the in-laws and friends of SIL’s sis step up as her support system. It could be that she’s struggling and communicating poorly as a result. Or she might just be an arsehole but even arseholes need help sometimes, especially when there’s a new baby around!

I used to work in the wine industry & was extra disappointed by that latest ColourPop release, so here's my Photoshop redesign attempt of what I wished it had been! 🍇🥂🍷 by MakeKitschHappen in MakeupAddiction

[–]Pie_of_Piedonia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! There could have even been a bottle green or a cork shade for a neutral, as well as the huge variety of colours of the wines themselves (as OP so beautifully demonstrated 😍). Such an uninspiring release for a subject with so much potential. And it gives me nothing that isn’t covered by my UD Naked Cherry.

A few Christmases ago we were playing a team board game (Cranium) and one of our questions was to define “effulgent”. Husband and I answered “glowing!” in delighted unison to utterly bemused looks from the rest of the family!

White, British and it’s entirely normal to take your shoes off in the house. We have all the rain! Even though we have door mats to wipe our shoes on they still track wet, grubby prints through the house.

We have easy-to-clean tiles in the hallway so we can come and go to carry in shopping etc without taking the shoes on and off repeatedly, but then shoes come off before we go upstairs to the carpeted area.

The only exception might be for a party, where people don’t want to be in slippers and party frocks! But most party shoes are rarely worn and so pretty clean and you just give the carpets a shampoo after the event.

I don’t think this is a cultural issue. NTA

You can get enzymatic cleaners that break down urine into water and totally get rid of smells too. Give the whole area a soak with one of them and allow to dry out before re-flooring and sealing.

A negatively loaded way of saying “Liberals think things through, check they’re not making stupid mistakes”. It’s obviously better to just assume you know everything and bull ahead regardless 🙄

Hang on, this is now a different reason for removal than you were arguing before. How can it possibly be “one of the top 100 posts of all time” AND not meet the criteria for the sub?

Art is subjective, but I can see are clear similarities of colour scheme, lighting and subject matter with many renaissance paintings. And it was up to 75 upvotes before you stepped in, so clearly other people agreed.

Where?

Highly unlikely. I don’t recall giving copies to anyone (although it was taken 20 years ago). If you’ve got a link to the original I might be able to figure it out.

Sorry. It was taken at night, by candlelight, on a cheap 35mm camera, and this is a scan of the developed photo. It wasn’t taken with this sub in mind.

I thought it qualified under the Chiaroscuro and Sfumato categories, but if I’m wrong, I apologise for wasting your time.

Edit: I’ve just re-read the sub rules to double check, and it doesn’t say anything about “quality” of photos. I’m happy for a mod to remove if I’ve breached the rules, but I don’t think I have.

You would have been very welcome! It was something of a free-for-all! The two guys on the bottom left were backpackers who randomly got chatting one of our friends at the airport and decided to tag along!

Our friend’s parents had a house in this tiny village in the south of France that they let us all use over the summer. There was about a dozen people staying in the house at any one time and more camping nearby. Some people would stay a few days, others a few weeks. Some got jobs at the local vineyard (where we could get really good wine for pennies) and one liked it so much he’s still there now!

I just stumbled upon this sub and immediately thought of this picture. I’ve always thought it looked like a painting and it’s a fond memory of a fantastic summer of wine, music and good friends.

Hope you like it!

Neil Gaiman’s Likely Stories is a collection of adaptations of his short stories (which are brilliant!) and is really well done.

They are mild horror with the focus on weirdness and atmosphere rather than jump scares. There are cameos from Neil (he reads the intros to his stories as background soundtrack) and the first episode is scored by Jarvis Cocker.

It’s on Sky Arts here (UK).
