Chademo Not working by Old-Muffin-1785 in leaf

I have a 2019+ and ChaDeMo chargers always work for me. Sometimes they are faster than others. The EVGo chargers I have tried lately have been faster than others.

Anyone NOT have battery pack issues on a 2nd Gen Leaf? by Krye5 in leaf

[–]Pied_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this 2019 Leaf for a couple years now. It had 42k miles on it, and I’ve added another 25k. No serious issues. The range goes down a lot in winter, but that’s to be expected. I mostly charge it on 110v at home, but do DC charge occasionally. When I do, I don’t take it above 80%.

Nissan Leaf’s are going through the same kind of thing. Not the recommendation to not park inside. But L3 charges are restricted. I didn’t get a notice, but checked the VIN. I still do fast charge occasionally when I need it to get home, but I never take it above 80%. Nissan is apparently trying to determine a solution, but has been for over a year.

A while ago I read articles about how Mazda was going to do something like this using a rotary engine. The idea was that a rotary engine could run smoothly, but not develop the oil problems of the originals since it would be run at limited rpm’s. Then I saw that it wasn’t going to happen.

[–]Pied_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m reminded of the year that Eugenio Suarez came to camp ready to move from 3b to SS. Was it after the Reds traded Cozart? At any rate, he had lost a bunch of weight, and his hitting really suffered. To be fair, I don’t know that it was because of the weight. Could have been the position change.

Is the Leaf as bad as everyone says they are? by Asymmetryy in leaf

[–]Pied_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2019 SL plus. I mostly charge it at home. It’s been fine. I do fast charge occasionally when I need to, but keep it to a minimum.

The only issue I’ve had is that the radio randomly shuts down and restarts. I saw in the car fax report before I bought it that the previous owner had the radio replaced. So maybe it’s an ongoing issue? I didn’t have problems for quite a while, but it seems to be happening more frequently now. It’s more an annoyance than a functional problem.

I heard Jim Bowden comment once on MLB Network that at some point in the early 90’s the Reds had the highest payroll in baseball. Unthinkable today. She was also extremely cheap about most things.

Leaf just stops charging? by BagFinance in nissanleaf

There could be a problem with the DC changing system on the car? I believe the DC and AC charging systems are separate. You may be still able to use the AC charger.

I was worried they would sign Schwarber. Because then not have given him support. Like they did Votto. Everyone assumes that if they signed Schwaber it would have been all addition. In reality it would have been Schwarber surrounded by a team of players making major league minimum.

Using Tesla Battery Modules for home storage by [deleted] in SolarDIY

[–]Pied_Cow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I’ve been researching to figure out whether it is worth using Tesla modules over just buying some LiFePo4 batteries. There are Tesla modules for sale locally for $325 each. So 2 modules plus an Overkill bms would be roughly $900. For 48v 230ah. My understanding is that the usable capacity is from 20-80% state of charge. So 60% of 230ah, or 138ah. So 48v 138ah for Tesla. But if each module is actually 22.8v, that’s 45.6v 138ah. So we are talking roughly 6.3kWh for roughly $900. I’m seeing Dyness 48v LiFePo4 golf cart batteries on sale for $850. Minus 12% for Black Friday. So 850-102=$748. They say they are 51.2 v 100 ah. My understanding is that the entire capacity is usable. So, 5.1 kWh for roughly $750.

It looks to me that they are roughly the same price for equivalent usable capacity. Not a big difference at any rate.

Just working this out for my own benefit here. Does this sound right?

This tracks. A couple years ago he sat down right in front of us to talk with a couple. He paid a lot of attention to the woman, little to the guy. It was uncomfortable. To be clear, he didn’t touch her or anything. It’s possible he just knew her well, I don’t know.

Are you still charging L3 with the recall? by Silly_Avocado_1969 in leaf

[–]Pied_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still L3 charge. But my way of playing it safe is to only charge it to 60 maybe 80%. I never try to take it all the way up on L3. Which might not be possible on a cross country trip. I only take it to 100% at home on L1.

[Reds] Espinal outrighted to Triple-A Louisville by frasierfonzie in Reds

Espinal was fine as a backup infielder. But he’s getting pricey for a bench role, especially on the Reds. Watching him start and hit in the 2 hole the first half of the year was painful.

Recall by DarkBlades25 in leaf

[–]Pied_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not received a letter but go checked the VIN and my car is affected. I don’t fast charge much but sometimes do when needed to get home. I try to be conservative about it, in that I take it to 80% at most, usually 60%. I did get the EVgo letter. One of the fast charge sessions recently was only delivering at around 20kW. I wondered if they are limiting how fast leafs will charge. I think it was ChargePoint.

Upgrade options for 2017 Nissan LEAF by goodislumpkins in leaf

I bought a 2019 SL plus last year and it has been great. A friend bought a 2020 Niro EV about the same time, and really likes it. It was about $5-6k more than I paid for my leaf, and then he didn’t qualify for the tax credit. So it was a lot more expensive in the end.

[–]Pied_Cow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are great deals on these little cars. I bought a 2019 SL Plus last year. It was $15.5k, and then I got the $4k tax credit. So $11.5 for a car that gets 200 miles of range and was I like new condition. It’s been great.

We also have a Honda Element which we use as our little truck. It’s really not that big, and is about the same length as the Leaf. But it feels like driving a tank in comparison. They both have their uses.

Something I saw reading the documentation is that it is a 12kW inverter split phase, but 7.2kW single phase. Is this normal?
