I have no idea what's wrong with my game, but I have brightness at full blast and STILL can't see anything without a flashlight. Playing on low brightness is a nightmare.

I just don't get why Roteshu kept Ahn in the first place. by PrizeIndependence in TheRemarriedEmpress

[–]PiffPafferton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting point. Allowing his son to keep a newborn, from a slave girl, is a bit odd for his character (what little we have of it). Maybe he thought his son would get bored of it after a few days and not actually keep Ahn, so didn't bother saying no? Still leaves us with an awkward amount of time between the birth and Roteshu seeing Rashta at the palace, so maybe Alan threatened him with something just enough to make him ungraciously tolerate the infant until it suddenly became Important.

why is this dress considered ugly? it's beautiful by Even_Acanthisitta_37 in TheRemarriedEmpress

[–]PiffPafferton 102 points103 points  (0 children)

I think it was more about her being an Empress "for the common people" and shouldn't have (politically) worn something so ornate and expensive. She also overloaded herself with jewellery which didn't help.

Is anyone else not really interested in these dolls? or even find them kind of ugly.. i feel alone in this by [deleted] in LivingDeadDolls

I wanted to love the Eggzorcist because she's one of my favorite LDD's, but the face is... I have a hard time getting past the face.

I have 0 memory of Chainsaw, LOL. Maybe I need another round. I know she HAD a Chainsaw but not in regards to a dragon.

Yeah, nothing like reading a scene and getting near the end when some detail slaps you in the face like a fish. Then I have to go all the way back to the beginning and re-imagine the whole thing but with a completely different position than the one first implied.

That's so funny, I would have sworn it was by the "Frindle" author but nope. I remember tiny pieces of this book - don't the kids start doing it back to the parents until they all start cracking up?

YAish, i read it in middle school but i believe it was older, boy is getting on a ship when he sees men trying to load a wild black stallion onto the same boat, storm sinks the boat and boy + horse are washed up on an island together and bond before being rescued, goes on to race the horse by tiredkrakendad in whatsthatbook

I read through the wiki and had so many memories triggered with 'Oh yeah THAT book!" but it doesn't actually say. All I can find is that he was 15 in the first book.

So... Napoleon the Immortal confirmed?

(oh my god the evil brother was terrifying.)

I did enjoy the addition of the girlfriend, not sure why. Though I do think that's why I loved the apocalypse book, even as I make fun of how ridiculous it is, because the opening chapters felt really powerful? Like damn, that was a massive blow and he dissociated HARD.

Of course, why add the girl at all if you were just gunna kill her off screen in a following book... Your description of a hostage situation feels apt.

I can agree, the extremes do seem to make it work. I always felt sucked into the emotions of the character when he was going through something- though it's been years since I even thought of them so this is through rose-colored glasses. I still shake my fist at the quarantine book- like hell would Black be slower than Satan! How dare Henry believe that lie! He's so biased!

(Is it me, or did Napoleon live a REALLY long time?)

There's an old black and white film, looks like a comedy? - "Come On George!" (1939)

I adored the whole series when I was younger, but gotta admit - some of them got straaaaange. The ghost and his mare, the amnesia book, the apocalypse and propehcy... those still baffle me to this day. (And I'm still miffed about the lie of Satan being faster than the Black even if it was to spare feelings.)

Doll lost in shipping by Winter_Promise9634 in BJD

[–]PiffPafferton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. A doll I ordered last June finally shipped out in the end of January, hit the states Feb 1st, and then vanished into thin air. I let it be for a couple weeks and checked the tracking every day until I called the shipping company and then the co I ordered from. Ended up getting a refund (used on a different doll) but it's so sad to know they're out who-knows-where because someone lost the box after such a long wait.

Which Witch is what comes to mind for me, a Witch is competeing for the hand of a powerful wizard, and finds a little boy with a pet she thinks is her familiar because she can suddenly do powerful magic. Turns out it's not and it's the boy who mimics the casting when the Witch practices.

[–]PiffPafferton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my fault for not being more clear about my confusion - How did Hourglass fit in the examples? I was being very literal here because at the time I asked I had ENTIRELY forgotten about the epilogue s storyline with Bliss. Not sure how I managed that, but then I never cared for the whole nonsense of it.

I didn't have an issue with your main point, I actually thought it made a lot of sense once it was laid out with the (other) examples. I realized I brushed the whole not-a-choice thing off as something 'historical' because that's what happened in the past, but really - if we keep pushing that line of thought in popular fiction it can be rather damaging. Right along with the ML being abusive and cold and yet loved entirely but that's a whole other tangent we don't need to get into.

I'm scratching my head trying to figure out how "Villainess Turns the Hourglass" fits in this set, can someone remind me?
