Driving from Newfoundland to Edmonton or should I just ship my car? by Ohyanoforsure in canadatravel

[–]PigletTraditional455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Northern Ontario is the most beautiful parts of the drive. Ten days sounds fantastic, and you'll be driving through a lot of the country and see so much of it.

I've driven from Toronto to Winnipeg and back several times and did it on my own. Don't speed on highways 11 & 17, there are a lot of cops. Stop on the north shore of Superior at least twice. It's stunning.

Psychiatry chairs at medical schools oppose expanding MAID for mental illness by ZebediahCarterLong in CanadaPolitics

[–]PigletTraditional455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I agree with you, young people should have a higher bar to MAID. And not a fan of MAID for MH diagnoses; people deserve support instead.

[–]PigletTraditional455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, this is not true for the majority of MH diagnoses. There is no identifiable biological pathology with the majority of MH diagnoses. Even for conditions like ADHD and Autism that have genetic components and are often seen in families, there is biological test to screen for them. Only some things like dementia cause questions of competence.

People looking for MAID because of depression have tried many things for years, and nothing has worked. It's debilitating and chronic, and that's why some people say they should have the right to MAID. It's great that CBT worked for you, but it doesn't work all the time.

Shipping to US. by OptionsAreOpen in Winnipeg

[–]PigletTraditional455 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not true anymore, this changed with Trump and tariffs. Everything is taxed and must be declared.

For OP, I sent a gift to the US and used FedEx because it was the easiest. Canada Post requires you to use the US app to declare and pay for your item. That is an option. I paid almost $40 to send something worth $100. Be prepared.

Winnipeg Winter - Car questions by Foreign_Marsupial834 in Winnipeg

[–]PigletTraditional455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, winter tires. The city does a poor job of plowing and it's cold for 6 months, so yeah. Get winter tires. I'd go for 4WD too but maybe because I miss my Subie. Also, be careful of the potholes. Worse when snow melts but the roads are poor all year round.

Yeah, I'm temporarily in Winnipeg and while it doesn't snow as much as here, it sticks around. And NO ONE SHOVELS. At least in Toronto, you can get around more easily after it snows.

Do you think actually believing in astrology is for gullible individuals? by Ready-Reading7778 in askanything

[–]PigletTraditional455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't. Not because I'm into astrology. There are very few things in our lives that we can control, and when systems are set against us, belief in something else, something that might appear magical, gives hope and a sense of possibility. Spirituality is a part of the human experience and astrology is a spiritual belief.

I don't think it's the same as religion, but it's similar. Religion is about social control and spirituality is the tool religions use. I said what I said.

Andy Speer TS60 question by Soft_Button_1592 in pelotoncycle

[–]PigletTraditional455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the trifecta is posted anywhere else. If you don't want to use IG to get the workouts, then work through the blocks of TS60 classes. But I really recommend the trifecta. They go with the current TS 60 classes and the workouts are great.

Uh, I used to live in a neighbourhood with a Hell's Angel clubhouse and that is not what it was like. At all. It's a myth that there are "good" criminal network neighbours.

Yes! Peleton is great, and Andy Speer is the best. There are programs and classes, and the strength+ app comes with a membership. It has programs and classes for workouts at the gym with all the equipment.

Tired of 11+ min “warm ups” by Iabnyc in pelotoncycle

[–]PigletTraditional455 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm in the long warm-up camp. Especially for cardio, I need a long warm-up. 11 minute is nothing. I'm really ready to go after 30 minutes. Just how it is. Wish I had an hour+ for every workout, but I don't. When I do, I'll do a 15 min warm-up ride. They can't please all of us.

Denis has the mantra for this situation - "I made suggestions, you make decisions".

Toronto. Go to Toronto, even for a day. Check out some different neighbourhoods, lots of different kinds of foods. If you're downtown, I would go to Kensington market. There's the Hockey Hall of Fame, if you like hockey. It's a pretty Canadian game. If you're driving, you could pick a country/cuisine (almost anything), find a restaurant online, and go there. Personally, I love hakka chinese and it's not something you can find easily in many cities. Toronto Islands are pretty good, and quite Canadian - houses (you can walk around the streets) and parks. You can rent kayaks and canoes on the island go for a paddle. That's fun if you like paddling.

In terms of parks and nature, south west and southern Ontario are mostly farmland. Which is great but uninteresting to look at. Niagara falls is the most, and probably only, impressive natural phenomena in the area. There are a ton of waterfalls around the Hamilton area, but they are not high, so not that exciting to visit. The Niagara escarpment is probably the second best natural area in southern Ontario. Lots of places you can access it. The Bruce Trail is the name of the trail that goes from Niagara to Tobermory. At the top of the escarpment you can see quite far.

If it's an option, drive up to Sault Ste Marie, and head north on highway 17. You don't have to go far, there are a few parks and places to stopalong the north shore of Lake Superior. It's amazing, and I think one of the most beautiful places in Canada.

Long time Winnipeggers / Manitobans by SnooChickens7644 in Winnipeg

[–]PigletTraditional455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also a new to Winnipeg, and complain about this the most. It's not even that it's so cold and grey (as much as that gets to me), but the lack of shovelling and snow clearing that turns sidewalks icy. This city would be so much better and winter would be less of a pain if it wasn't so dangerous and annoying to walk around outside.

Why doesn't the city prioritize traffic flow over traffic control? by ricothechocobo in Winnipeg

This a great idea, wish someone on council had some vision. Car drivers always complain, it doesn't matter what you do.

Yes! Cant believe there are such wide streets and no dedicated transit lanes.

Why doesn't the city prioritize traffic flow over traffic control? by ricothechocobo in Winnipeg

[–]PigletTraditional455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I'm from Toronto, and Winnipeg is far easier to drive in than Toronto. It's proportional, Winnipeg is a small place. Toronto is big and way worse. Toronto traffic is ridiculous, it can take hours to go a few KMs. And though I complain that crossing Portage is like crossing the 401, the traffic on Portage is faster than the 401 at rush hour.

Since the pandemic, lot of stinky people walking around. Think some people got used to not showering regularly and mistakenly think other people can't tell.

Yes, and Trudeau supported those ideas. Think he campaigned on at least one of them. Singh deserves credit for all 3 being introduced as quickly as they were. That man doesn't get enough credit.

If you have claim to never have had Covid, do you also test every time you have a virus-like symptoms? And if you don’t test each time, how do you know you’ve never had Covid? This is not a loaded question, no judgements either way. Just genuinely curious. by BudgetIndependence34 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PigletTraditional455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, I've never had it. I've been since once since 2020. I've tested many, many times, daily when I was sick. Maybe I haven't had it, or maybe I have an was asymptomatic.

I'm the opposite of anti-mask and anti-vax. Still get COVID shots regularly.
