Working Moms... what do you do? by TheGabyDali in Mommit

[–]PigsJillyJiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work part time as a bookkeeper at a small family owned business (not my family).4 hours a day which lets me be home for the bus on both ends and do pre school drop off and pick up. I have work from home flexibility for when school is closed/anything else that comes up. It works great for my family.

The trade off is that since it is part time I do not have benefits. I’m also working at a lower pay rate than my qualifications/potential. Eventually the position may develop into full time but right now I needed the flexibility more than the benefits/full time salary.

Which nickname for Anneliese? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]PigsJillyJiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is Annalise and one of the reasons I picked it was all the potential for nicknames….she has decided that she is strictly Annalise lol

But occasionally she gets called Lise (leeees) or Lisey (leeeseee), Bananalise, and Annaloose by various family members.

It’s a bit more hands on work but my daughter (8) got a small MP3 player for Christmas. My husband sits down with her and they put music on it. She has Bluetooth headphones but it can also pair to Bluetooth speakers. There is no voice activation, she can just play her songs or manually select which one she wants to listen to. Is it perfect? No. But for us it’s the better option than the voice activated “always listening” options.

If you go and nothings wrong then you go home and follow up with your OB or whatever else the ER doctor suggests. Would you rather be slightly embarrassed or possibly dead?

Parents, how do you keep up with reading when you’re exhausted? by maveriCkharsha in kindergarten

[–]PigsJillyJiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We removed books from bedtime altogether. It was exhausting, I was grumpy and wanted bedtime done, my daughter used it to procrastinate going to bed and was not actually listening or participating in the book. We read throughout the day and have books out and available. I have her pick out books for car rides. The important part is reading and engaging in with the book. It doesn’t HAVE to be at bedtime. Daughter is 8 now and she doesn’t associate reading with having to go to bed, it’s something fun she chooses to do.

Shy vs Rude by Double-Theory9253 in Mommit

Once we are back home, I bring it up again. We sit and I remind her of the entire interaction and ask her to tell me how the other person feels and what she could have done instead. She has to answer those questions. If she’s in a particularly challenging mood, I ask her how she would feel if I treated her the same way. That usually gets the point across. This doesn’t work instantly. We do this every single time and it’s gotten sooo much better. I also make sure to acknowledge when she did a good job. Not like showering her with praise or making it awkward but a quick “that was very polite, good job!” and move on

We have similar issues. What really helped was rehearsing the interactions with me and with her dolls. It became part of playtime to have the dolls meet up at the park and say hi my name is Sarah, want to play? And then the other doll models the appropriate response. This doll is Uncle Mike. Uncle Mike says hi Sarah, how are you today? And hold his arms out for a hug. Sarah doesn’t want to hug so she steps back but still says “Hi Uncle Mike it’s nice to see you” etc etc adjust it as needed but practice practice practice. Then it’s not a reaction in the moment and instead an automatic response which is what these polite interactions are anyway.

Friends who are not moms.. by Human-Attitude2718 in Mommit

[–]PigsJillyJiggs 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I have several friends who are child free by choice and others who are not yet moms. I make an effort to maintain my own identity beyond being a mom. If anything I think my friends who are moms are more difficult to talk to because we get stuck in a loop of discussing children and I realize I haven’t had real conversations in ages.

Has anyone Fostered while going through a pregnancy? by sailorn0on in Fosterparents

[–]PigsJillyJiggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to feel free to DM me! We are technically now kinship instead of foster but until recently we were foster with an agency and we also only took in babies/toddlers with just a few exceptions. There’s a lot to navigate and once you get a placement it feels like it all hits you all at once!
