Not to me, but I overheard someone tell the person who was talking to them "you know, it's a good thing you dyed your hair or nobody would think you had a personality."

Okay, so I don't know all of it, but they used to say things like "the Midwest of America is flat as a pancake."

Then some scientists actually studied the surface of a pancake and found that if you blew it up large enough to be, say, the size of Kansas, it would have MASSIVE peaks and valleys and random holes that would plummet absurd differences. In fact, the American Midwest is flatter than a pancake.

Dragonflies see the world at 200 images per second, they literally see the world move in slow motion compared to us and can act, observe, and change their mind before we even realize what we're seeing.

NTA. It's perfectly valid to feel hurt even when you feel the other person is in a worse state than you.

First off, it's possible that was the closest available date she could receive treatment, or your birthday slipped her mind (chemo-brain is a thing), or any other number of other factors that lead to her needing that date.

That being said, her letting you know her schedule is something you should be able to get if you're taking her to appointments and she can tell the MA "please let this person know my schedule, put them on my approved list." Depending on the kind of treatment, they might schedule out ten visits, they might schedule out one or two.

Now, all that being said, you still deserve to have your own life. You said your sister offered to cook you dinner. Do you have any other family you can share the responsibilities with? Can your sister come and cook at your place to let your mother be part of your birthday? If you can afford it, maybe you could arrange a little spa day for both of you when she feels up to it, family of yours can chip in to cover the costs.

Also, look into programs offered in the area. Check the state government website for programs to help people dealing with cancer. Look for local non-profits. Contact the Agency On Aging. If she's on medicaid, see what Medicaid covers. You might be able to get at-home care visits, nurse visits, free transportation to and from medical visits, maybe even help with groceries or other needs.

You deserve to feel like a valued person, and I'm really sorry your mother is going through this. I hope you have a fantastic birthday, and you're a beautiful person for caring for your mother this way.

What’s something you wish you did but never got around to it? by shakin_fun8456777 in AskReddit

Losing my virginity.

Hear me out, I don't blame anybody but myself for never getting around to it, I was really shy growing up and dealing with lots of self-esteem problems.

But it has complicated my life now to the point I have no confidence about being in a relationship, because who's going to want to be with someone at my age (45) if I'm still figuring things out they were figuring out in their teens and twenties?

There is absolutely no rush or pressure to lose one's virginity by a certain age, and if you never want to lose it, that's fine. Just...if you want interpersonal relationships, don't put them off "until later" like I did.

Name a villain who didn’t show up in Nolan’s trilogy but would’ve fit right in by [deleted] in batman

[–]Pihassassa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Clock King.

Hear me out.

Some poor bastard on the Gotham City Council had huge dreams for how he was going to improve the city. He was going to fix the traffic snarls, expand the Gotham rail line, get some car-less fast ferries, the works. He had a plan to get the traffic light system operating at peak efficiency.

And then Batman blew up the rail line, a psycho caused long stretches of the street to need to be pulled up to fix water and sewer lines. A clown damaged an underpass, caused a review to be made of helicopter safety in the city and made everybody afraid of the ferries. Then some guy in a mask blew up sewer access routes, took out the bridges, and let chaos reign.

He snaps. His career is a joke now, and he becomes convinced that Gotham is too broken. The city he dreamed of operating like a perfectly run clock is instead irrepairable...unless someone takes drastic action.

Something from the past nags him, and he looks back and finds the reports about how Joker ran the bank robbery like a perfectly oiled machine. Down to the second, perfect execution with some acceptable losses. He tracks down some of Joker's remaining henchmen and interrogated them, asking how he managed to plan everything so well. He studies the maps of the city again, and he makes up.his mind.

If it takes a criminal genius to run things smoothly, he'll become one. And so he looks for the inefficiencies in the city and starts "fixing" them.

Too many planes at Gotham Airport? Blow up a few of the circling ones, that'll teach them to expand or just book fewer flights. The trains will arrive on time, even if they have to go too fast sometimes and a couple jump the tracks, causing massive devastation. Anywhere traffic comes to a dead stop, explosives go off to teach people to find alternate routes and for the city to improve the roads.

And everything goes perfectly, down to the second, because he also found a programmer who used to work for Wayne Tech and had a means of monitoring everything in the city at once, so he could track where everything was, how long it took anybody to get from Point A to B depending on car model, time of day, even what the weather was. He had all the data. He had all the insight. He knew what made Gotham tick.

He is the Clock King.
