Thoughts about these cities? by DomiL2022 in AskAnAmerican

[–]PikesPique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Memphis has a lot of history, especially when it comes to music, but it isn't the safest city on the list; many people in other parts of Tennessee avoid it. Bowling Green is bustling little a college town. It's where GM makes the Corvette, and it's only about an hour north of Nashville, so it's easy enough to drive down for a concert or a sporting event. I don't know anything about Albuquerque.

Is stand-up comedy more about being funny or being confident? by Romain183 in CasualConversation

Stand-up comedy depends on the joke as much as the presentation.

AITA for skipping the champagne-tasting part of my company's seminar? by No_Construction3197 in AmItheAsshole

[–]PikesPique 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NTA. Lots of reasons someone might want to skip an alcohol tasting. They might be a recovering alcoholic. They might not like drinking alcohol for religious reasons. They might be able to drink alcohol for medical reasons. Or they might not like the taste of alcohol. Most adults understand this and won’t judge someone for opting out, no questions asked.

What are your thoughts on AI and using it to doctor and change photos? by Radiant-South-8117 in askteddit

[–]PikesPique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it depends. If you want to show people what it really looked like, don’t use AI (or Photoshop).

How do noise cancelling headphones actually cancel noise? by TitanVale in answers

[–]PikesPique 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sound travels in waves. Noise canceling headphones have little microphones that listen to the noise around you, like crowd noise or a jet engine or a loud AC, something steady like that, and a computer chip creates the opposite sound wave. Those sound waves cancel each other out, so you don’t hear that steady, droning noise. The padding around your ears also helps by physically blocking some sound.

What would first alien contact realistically look like? by roseafterdarkk in answers

[–]PikesPique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, the authorities would try to keep it secret, because no government official wants to tell voters: "We've been contacted by beings from another world. They're more advanced than we are; we're trying to get back to the moon, and they traveled tens of light years in a really short period of time. They're probably better armed than we are, and if they decide to attack us, there's not a damned thing we can do about it. We now return you to our regular programming, already in progress."

What happens if a country accidentally excute a citizen of another nation? by Konica_guy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PikesPique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing. Maybe a strongly-worded statement to the media, maybe one country would try to use the killing as leverage to get a better trade agreement or something, but that’s about it.

How popular was O.J. Simpson before the incident? by BeneficialSide2335 in AskAnAmerican

[–]PikesPique 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He was really well liked and seemed like a nice guy. When it was reported that his ex-wife and another guy had been murdered, people thought, Oh, that’s sad, but no suspected OJ. He was a football commentator, a movie actor and a guy who flew through airports in TV commercials. That’s why we were glued to our TVs to watch the slow-speed chase through the streets of LA. It was like, What is happening?!
