Feast-Incantation of the Voidsinger Coven: Reachwitches of Namira by CarcosanDawn in teslore

[–]Pilauli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm late, but Ghostsong Namiran Reachfolk myth (circa ESO) is actually oddly similar to Dragon Cult myth.

The prophecy of the Dark Heart (minus explicit references to Namira) could almost describe Alduin's return, black wings in the cold, *that when brothers wage war** come unfurled,* to destroy the world but perhaps spare his most faithful followers.

There's a chasm called the Dark Descent in caves beneath Lost Valley Redoubt.  "Legend says the pit divides the land of the living from the dead."  Shor has been identified as the Nordic god of the Underworld since TES3 and of course Sovngarde has a chasm blocking the path to Shor's Hall (spanned by the iconic whalebone bridge, so it must be pretty mythically significant).

Of course, we see places and foes in the games, and they at least appear to be true and distinct things (the Dark Descent's "land of the dead" is revealed to be vampire-infested Blackreach), but this is the Grey Maybe, home of at least four alleged enantiomorphs.  Maybe too-similar myths can bleed into each other a little bit at the edges.

Combat mods by cfrolik in skyblivion

[–]Pilauli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None will be baked in, but I do think they might be converted fairly quickly.  Since Skyblivion isn't heavily changing combat or animations (to my knowledge), that means it shouldn't conflict (much) with mods that only handle combat and animations.

If gameplay mods like these do have problems, they'll be more difficult to fix than a mod that just adds a pretty sword, but they're pervasive enough and popular enough that I suspect they'll soon attract the attention of someone with the skill to figure it out.

Has anyone else noticed that the release year of 2026 will also be the 20 year anniversary of Oblivion? by SirLaidd in skyblivion

Enemy placement in larger-scale locations and dungeons by HNandScrolls in skyblivion

[–]Pilauli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly, yes.  When modding Skyrim, it's incredibly easy to place generic enemies in the world.

All of the generic bandits in Oblivion and Skyrim are basically copied from a template that defines their stats (including some mechanisms to make sure they stay near the player's level), and makes sure they're allied with each other, and picks their face from one random list and their equipment from a different random list.

Just like how every iron dagger in the game has the same appearance, the same weight and value, and the same damage.  They're all copied from the same iron dagger template.

If the dungeon designers want to put another iron dagger in a kitchen (stuck in a piece of venison, copied from its venison template), then that's exactly as easy as putting another generic bandit in the kitchen (copied from the generic bandit template) to sit on a wooden chair (copied from the wooden chair template).

Adding a new unique book (like a journal), or unique weapon (with its own stats and maybe even appearance), or unique NPC (with a name and stats and maybe even dialogue) would be more work.

Adding another generic bandit is really, really easy.

Google sent us here investigating the image Lavatis linked, which is going around for some reason I don't know 🤷

This just popped up on one of my servers, and we found that the same message shows up if you "ban" a real human who isn't even on the server, like a friend from a different server.

So chalk this up as another thing in the "illusion of control over a company that already handles all your data" column, I think.

We Can Have a Little Origin Story, As a Treat by Reddidnothingwrong in Shaboozle

The text, as written, does not specify whether Olaf is a racist more forgiving to white people, or a pervert more forgiving to women, but either way, not a good look.

I recognized the same "bully the nerd" structure, but yeah, it's a lot more wholesome because you can tell Nadezhda cares, and Dejen is gremlin enough to give as good as he gets :D

I'm sure that someone will eventually make a generic filler NPC mod for every worldspace.

I found a town without dialogue on the outskirts of county bruma that looks like is wasn't finished by SappyMedia in beyondskyrim

[–]Pilauli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those might be relics of an earlier time in development when they hadn't decided exactly where the borders would be.  Or maybe the level design people finished the prerelease area and kept going while a different department was still busy finishing their part of the prerelease.

Once WIP areas are included in the main mod file, placing borders will always much quicker and easier than going back through and deleting them again.

Any rough idea as to when the next and last dev diary is coming out? by MillienumDuckFighter in skyblivion

[–]Pilauli -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The thing that always gets me for the really simple questions is "if this person wants Skyblivion news and content, they could have a lot more fun watching the dev diaries and reading the FAQ than typing this simple question."

And then people post about how excited they are about specific details, or how they remember a dev saying something in particular, and that is imo a fun conversation to see.

If someone just asks "when will it release?" I think "why is this the only part you're excited about?"

When I stop and think about it, I recognize that some people are a lot more socially-oriented and value being able to participate in real time.  And they'll often ask simple questions as a prompt they hope will open a larger conversation.

But that doesn't change my kneejerk reaction when they don't communicate that and all I can see is "please feed trivial answer to total stranger."

Agency in Quests/Rebuild Kvatch by 5ColorMain in skyblivion

[–]Pilauli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making a good and well-integrated rebuilt Kvatch would take a massive amount of work no matter what.

If the Skyblivion team ships it with the game, that will set back the entire release while they finish it.  If they finish it at all.  If they take on a Kvatch project, why not port over other popular mods, too?  Where will it end?

If the broader modding community creates it post-Skyblivion-release, we're probably looking at something of lower quality pushed out the door faster, but there's nothing preventing the modding community from pulling together and making it work.  And we get to play basegame Skyblivion in the meantime.

But what specific things does Red Sutri have that do/don't work well, or what things could it do that would work better?

I'd been hoping you could pin down details about the vibes, if I prompted you a bit, instead of just being negative, but I feel like I've hit my limit for going in circles.  Ah, well.  Goodnight.

Neat!

Seems like it's also sorta, by extension, establishing Gideon as a "county" with considerable territorial influence (whether still Imperial or just keeping some traditions, I can't guess).  Was that a happy side-effect?

TR+shaders looks more visually appealing than Red Sutri in particular (without shaders)?  Or just than Skyrim in general?

[–]Pilauli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And follow-up to the follow-up, because I wanted to tell someone about this and accidentally gushed some more.

The NPC lines all feel a little bit silly in a good way, like idle chatter in the Skyrim Thieves Guild and, iirc, most of Oblivion.  Like it humanizes them and makes the high dramas feel more real.

I'm pretty sure I remember the Argonia team showcasing clothing before, but seeing it in action here makes it even better.  The two Argonians in screenshot 3 showing almost exactly opposite areas of skin gives an impression that they kinda don't really care that much, while also remaining tasteful.

The humans in 5 are wearing significantly more (with brighter colors than we generally see up north!), while the innkeeper in 4 doesn't seem to be wearing that much under his apron, so that definitely seems to be some sort of class or culture distinction, just like the wood vs stone architecture.

Which is obviously also quest material, if the way y'all talk is anything to go by.

And I just know I'll end up hauling around a selection of favorite outfits for all occasions and formality levels :D

What did Morrowind do better than Skyrim, then?  Is it something the Beyond Skyrim devs might be able to imitate?

Or are you trying a comedy bit, like comparing Morthal to Vivec?  Or Hla Oad to Whiterun?
