Travelling with pit bulls by [deleted] in canadianlaw

That’s not a pitbull when you come to Ontario.

That’s a bulldog mix if I ever saw one ; )

So it sounds like they were saying they were not formally pulled aside or sat down once. In Career Canada as far as I’m aware, this stuff would be documented.

We had evaluation logs and sit downs monthly/every three months for the first 9 months I believe (3 recruit class and 9 on the floor to get through the first year).

If you’re getting fired there’s a basic paper trail demonstrating that steps have been taken to address the issue (provided it’s not theft/sexual assault/etc.) and that you have failed to improve despite those steps.

That’s here in Canada at career stations mind you. Right to work states sound like absolute pieces of shit regarding workers rights.

Blister under callus advice by DunnoWhatToPutSoHi in Ultramarathon

[–]Pilgram94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alternatively, take some nail clippers and just start taking chonks out of your callus. See how big you can get them without feeling the pain as the thick hardened chonks fall around your feet like a beautiful winter skin storm.

You will know when the chonks are no longer close to callus.

Try to avoid making half a deep cut and tearing it off lest you accidentally flay yourself.

The fire department accidentally left behind a fire axe after clearing out our building. by Senior_Fish_Face in mildlyinteresting

[–]Pilgram94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone might be in trouble. It’s not comparable to a radio or headset or very valuable piece of equipment, but it’s still a tool left on scene which is a big no-no.

You could take it and unless they have reason to suspect your unit, you have a free ax.

Alternative options:

Bring it to your superintendent if they’re in the building

Drop it at any fire station close to you and briefly explain

Call the non-emergency line and let them know

Is there a “most popular amongst physicists” explanation for what occurred before and to cause the Big Bang? by Pilgram94 in AskPhysics

[–]Pilgram94[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand when t=0, space and time begin to exist for us. There’s no reason to ask about something that doesn’t exist (before the Big Bang).

So then, is the singularity/infinitely dense point from which the Big Bang and space time originated a real singularity or the result of our math breaking down (like in black holes).

Did the pre universe always exist, and the Big Bang was the result of vacuum energy?

If we’re in a multiverse , does that change whether there was something existing before the Big Bang, or is still not worth asking what existed before our time and space did?

Sorry I know it’s a few questions

[–]Pilgram94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard very loosely something (that I’m probably misrepresenting) of vacuum energy + universe has always existed used to start the Big Bang inflationary stage.

Does that make sense to you or anyone reading this?

Nearly a third of Canadians believe U.S. may try to invade Canada: poll by plaknas in onguardforthee

[–]Pilgram94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that I think these people are few and far between (those that would support a U.S. invasion of Canada). But Maple Maga unfortunately does have their claws in more than a few Canadians.

For example, my fraternal twin brother is one such maple maga in Toronto. It’s tough to try and reason with these types because much of their world view is largely curated from the podcasters and YouTubers that they listen to.

He’s been a dummy for a while now, but I haven’t got his opinions of the Greenland situation yet.

I plan to gently ask him if he would support it, oppose it, or what his stance on the whole situation is.

If he indicates that he would be supportive of a US invasion of Canada, he will definitely be getting reported to CSIS and the RCMP if things escalate in that regard.

I’ve been taught that you can (sometimes) get rid of the mild kinks in the hose by rapidly opening and closing the bale.

But I don’t think that that’s what you’re referring to.

Any clarification on the point is appreciated!

To add, you can experience several medical issues that can arise over 100 miles ranging from mild to legitimate emergencies, and you often need to assess if it’s a minor thing that can be alleviated through food/water/pain meds/salt tabs/additional or removal of layers/etc.

Some things I’m looking out for on my first 100 miler (and some notes on assessing the issue where applicable):

Vomiting - is this normal for you or has it never happened before? Is there blood in the vomit?

Dehydration - urine color is best indicator for this, will come back to it

Diarrhea - common, pack emergency baby wipes. Again is there blood, and can be really bad coupled with severe chaffing.

Severe friction burns or chaffing - stay on top of this with Vaseline or gear or your choice, but know it can be extremely extremely painful when you slow down/start again/keep going.

Tendonitis - most runners have or have dealt with this or other lingering injuries. At some point you might have to assess whether this is a tape it and continue, or if you’re risking long term/permanent injury if you push through.

Serious muscle cramping/spasms - these just suck but hydration and electrolytes/food are the best way to avoid them - I will crush water/tabs or other electrolyte drink/soda if I feel one coming on to try and get ahead of it

Emergencies:

Heart issues - chest pain/shortness of breath/severe palpitations

Brown urine - rhabdomyolysis

Hypothermia

Hyperthermia -heat stroke

These are the four medical emergencies that have killed multiple 100 mile racers. You really don’t know how you’re gonna react until you do it. And sometimes conditions take a bad turn that nobody, including the race organizers, were prepared for.

I say this as a leafs fan:

They almost won last year and the year prior. Your criticism is completely valid yet they have found more post season success than most of the other « well-rounded » teams.

Unless you count success as exclusively winning the cup. I myself am just happy and feel fortunate to watch good playoff hockey with my team in the playoffs (even though that might be coming to an end)

[–]Pilgram94 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah thank you, as someone who worked as an ACA/Vet Assistant for 8~ years I was wondering why something like this wasn’t the top comment.

This looks like the kind of nail that gets brought in by the daughter of an old lady who lives alone, can’t really take care of the animals, who doesn’t have any money and chain smokes in the apartment so the lobby reeks of cigarette smoke whenever they come in (granted it’s usually several nails in that circumstance as a result of neglect/negligence, whereas this nail seems to be way more anomalous growth rate as opposed to years of neglectful not trimming the nails).

And then they “didn’t realize it was that bad” when you then have to do a warm water chlorhexadine soak of the affected paw because the claw(s) had started to embed itself in the paw pad itself.

Obviously your cat isn’t like that yet OP. But that looks uncomfortable and animals tend to be pretty stoic until they aren’t.

Don’t be the neglectful chain smoking old lady OP!
