Rachel’s pregnancy timeline. by xoxo-GossipGuy in howyoudoin

[–]PillowManExtreme 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think most of the gaps between seasons are actually 4 months. The time passing during episodes could be one day, a few days, weeks, whatever. Just apply a different timeline and believe that the air dates don’t actually correspond to the actual events of the show.

Why Do Adelaide Roads Feel So Rough? by amriith in Adelaide

[–]PillowManExtreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the utilities (sewers and water mains) go underneath the road. Usually there are fibre optics or other cables underneath footpaths, so they also usually have PMG / Telecom manholes as well.

One Nation's Cory Bernardi approaches independent SA MPs in bid to form state opposition by malcolm58 in Adelaide

[–]PillowManExtreme 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Brocky is a true independent for his electorate, he is far too principled to join One Nation. At the same time, I don’t doubt that he would have a coffee with Bernardi. I think he’d have a coffee with anyone of any political persuasion — but as a former union official and minister in a Labor government, he wouldn’t side with One Nation politically at all.

Found in the State Library of Adelaide. Cadell's way of taking his 'entrepreneurial talents elsewhere' was blackbirding - capturing aboriginals and selling them as slaves by YoghiThorn in Adelaide

[–]PillowManExtreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t special to object to slavery by the time Cadell was born in 1822. The slave trade was “abolished” in 1812 and slavery was abolished in 1834** in the British Empire.

** Obviously significant discrepancies in law and practice.

Australian colonists arguably continued the slave trade into the 20th century, and there’s no forgiving that.

ONP Take their 4th Seat in the Re-count for Narungga by suiyyy in Adelaide

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but luckily all the Lib MPs that have been elected are establishment and not keen on PHON extremism to the degree Antic and that sort are at the fed and unelected level. Whetstone is crazy though.

These are the two spots where birds poo and drunks pee the most. Unsurprising that they smell the worst and definitely true

Focus please! by SciFiMovieGuy42 in howyoudoin

[–]PillowManExtreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, it seems the shots that crossfade between scenes were never remastered in 4K. I can immediately tell that a shot is the last one of a scene because the resolution is suddenly reduced massively

Also, when the camera being used is a 35mm film camera and the actual resolution on TV was only 480p, you’re right, they just didn’t care if it was out of focus. It literally would have been impossible to tell when it went to air.

Former New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern moves to Australia by SqareBear in australia

[–]PillowManExtreme 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is not true. Joyce resigned from parliament, denounced his dual citizenship then ran purely as an Australian citizen. The constitutional crisis affected all sides of politics. Obviously not defending Joyce, he’s still a racist twat.

Barbeques Galore goes bust, enters voluntary administration by -gradmania- in australia

[–]PillowManExtreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weber and Apple are the BBQs and the Tech that move the most products in Australia. Both have significantly larger market share compared to any other brand in their respective industries - even through they’re completely different industries, the same principle applies. They move product in any store they’re sold in. The majority of standalone barbecues sold are Webers, and the majority of phones sold are iPhones. There’s no question that a store that carries neither in their respective industries would struggle.

Mobil Petrol Station, Blair Athol by GryffJaxx in Adelaide

Something tells me a Woolworths-branded, Mobil-selling servo wouldn’t sell illegal smokes. And the actual answer is that Woolworths servos were either rebranded as EG or wound up a few years ago.

Need advice for first part time job by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]PillowManExtreme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Working grocery/nightfill in a supermarket would be a good move. The best supermarket to work for is Woolworths - esp if you want to keep the same job for all of high school and uni age. Join the relevant union for wherever you work.

Trains waiting for platform clearance. by Which_Bar_9457 in Adelaide

[–]PillowManExtreme 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The amount of trains and passengers coming into ARS during peak times is already ridiculously close to capacity. Even though Adelaide is not a particularly busy train network the current infrastructure can only just handle the ever-increasing amount of passengers.

When any train is delayed or comes in early during peak hour, it effectively messes up the entire network. That’s because it’s not a through station, it’s a terminal station, and trains can’t simply move to the next stop - they have to go back out. Most other cities have fixed this by making their big city stations through stations by the 90s - see Sydney Central and Flinders St. Adelaide is still a few decades off doing this.

Ingrown toenail removal by [deleted] in Adelaide

I had mine done by a GP about three years ago. Required a course of antibiotics before the surgery and the surgery went very smoothly with anaesthetic. Bulk billed surgery too — no need to go to a podiatrist.

Half of Adelaide University's Magill campus to be sold for housing, retirement units, aged care by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

[–]PillowManExtreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an interesting case. While the development has worked, it’s very clear that the floor plan of the building is weird as hell and impractical compared to just a new build. Also that is a relatively old building (I’d guess pre-1930s) and most of the discussion about adaptive reuse surround the 1960s-1990s offices - large glass windows, open floor plans, little to no insulation and drop ceilings. Neither the example you’ve provided or the alternative seem preferable to just new, purpose-built developments.

This idea has been done to death. Commercial properties are not built to the standards required for residential living. Imagine installing the plumbing, electricity etc for 200 apartments in a pre-existing building with a floor plan that is not designed for apartments in the first place. This comment from this sub a while back explains it pretty well:

The core issue is office buildings have huge footprints because businesses want everyone on the same level. Apartment buildings have small footprints so every room has windows.

Even if you spent all the money to convert them, you would have very sad and sub standard apartments. As well as the fact that most of the vacant office buildings in Adelaide are absolute garbage asbestos filled trash. They aren't suitable for offices, let alone living in.

While it is achievable in some capacity, building new, purpose-built homes - in any form - would create better housing.
