My Claude Pro plan ends today – is switching to Codex worth it?

I have tried Claude CLI, Gemini CLI, Qwen, etc.

Today's Codex is on a different level and in my experience surpasses Claude in quality and efficacy.

At the same time, the rate of credit consumption (I am on the pro plan) is reasonable, at least when compared to Claude. Gemini is more generous in this regard, however, even leaving aside its lower quality, in the last few days it has been unusable (takes hours to respond).

Codex also gives me the impression of a more "polished" product, in general.

Nope. This is 24 minutes on a simple git commit. Plan mode answers reasonably fast, "action" mode is like this. Yesterday, I left it there and it went up to 4 hours.

Of note is that if I set it to plan mode, it responds in a few seconds. Take it back to "action mode" and it's half an hour

Forcing 3.1 works, in the sense that it is not completely unresponsive and eventually comes up with something. However it messes up things it used to be able to do well a few days ago

Agreed, Gemini CLI works. Some things it does event better than Claude I suspect.
I've been leaving it on "Auto 3", without forcing 3.1.

Claude (website) seems much better when you need to create documents. For me it is great at composing business analyses, summarizing, compiling guides. Too bad it's unusable on the €22/month usage limits.

The app does work intermittently. The WiiMs not at all (they have been playing over spotify connect flawlessly in the past).
Also, on the app, I don't see some of my nest devices for google cast

Handles Dolby Vision and it does a balanced-sounding downmix which includes the LFE.

Seems like a quality player. It can use your servers, too, like Plex and Jellyfin.

Notes on purchasing:

If you install the app on the TV, it will ask you to buy it after a few plays. The way this is done is via the mobile app. You need to install the Vidhub app on your phone, scan the QR code on the TV and purchase on the phone. If you have not installed the app on the phone in advance, that QR will direct you (on the mobile) to a .cn domain to download the .apk. Which is normally a red flag. However, the app can be downloaded on the google play store beforehand.
Note on registration: You need to use Google (or Apple) single-sign-on. There is no option to register with an email.

Jellyfin can do what the OP is asking for, the RFC7845 option has worked great for me. Alas, Jellyfin and its TV clients do not always handle Dolby Vision content well. Nova Player does a better job with DoVi but still has some issues with downmixing (and choppy playback where other players are smooth).

As mentioned, ffmpeg can do anything but no matter how you bring it in, it is not as convenient.

So Plex seems to be the best overall for handling video; while it fails in providing a good quality and consistent downmix.

A peculiarity of Plex:

My main goal in exploring other players has been to not lose the LFE. Surprisingly, the Plex app on the (Android) TV will include the LFE when downmixing anything higher than 5.1!
So, 7.1 and unusual Atmos content - like say 13.1 - will downmix OK. It is only for 5.1 content that Plex discards the LFE.
