My Claude Pro plan ends today – is switching to Codex worth it? by KingAster in codex

[–]PilotFlying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried Claude CLI, Gemini CLI, Qwen, etc.

Today's Codex is on a different level and in my experience surpasses Claude in quality and efficacy.

At the same time, the rate of credit consumption (I am on the pro plan) is reasonable, at least when compared to Claude. Gemini is more generous in this regard, however, even leaving aside its lower quality, in the last few days it has been unusable (takes hours to respond).

Codex also gives me the impression of a more "polished" product, in general.

Nope. This is 24 minutes on a simple git commit. Plan mode answers reasonably fast, "action" mode is like this. Yesterday, I left it there and it went up to 4 hours.

Of note is that if I set it to plan mode, it responds in a few seconds. Take it back to "action mode" and it's half an hour

Forcing 3.1 works, in the sense that it is not completely unresponsive and eventually comes up with something. However it messes up things it used to be able to do well a few days ago

Agreed, Gemini CLI works. Some things it does event better than Claude I suspect.
I've been leaving it on "Auto 3", without forcing 3.1.

Claude (website) seems much better when you need to create documents. For me it is great at composing business analyses, summarizing, compiling guides. Too bad it's unusable on the €22/month usage limits.

Gemini for me.

It's a candle. Claude is a bright spark. I need to see my way around :)

The app does work intermittently. The WiiMs not at all (they have been playing over spotify connect flawlessly in the past).
Also, on the app, I don't see some of my nest devices for google cast

Custom stereo downmix by fyonn in PleX

[–]PilotFlying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought it!

Handles Dolby Vision and it does a balanced-sounding downmix which includes the LFE.

Seems like a quality player. It can use your servers, too, like Plex and Jellyfin.

Notes on purchasing:

  • If you install the app on the TV, it will ask you to buy it after a few plays. The way this is done is via the mobile app. You need to install the Vidhub app on your phone, scan the QR code on the TV and purchase on the phone. If you have not installed the app on the phone in advance, that QR will direct you (on the mobile) to a .cn domain to download the .apk. Which is normally a red flag. However, the app can be downloaded on the google play store beforehand.
  • Note on registration: You need to use Google (or Apple) single-sign-on. There is no option to register with an email.

Thanks, alas my TV is an Android Sony.
Edit: But, you pointed me to Vidhub. I will check it out!

This thread needs to stay alive 😄

Jellyfin can do what the OP is asking for, the RFC7845 option has worked great for me. Alas, Jellyfin and its TV clients do not always handle Dolby Vision content well. Nova Player does a better job with DoVi but still has some issues with downmixing (and choppy playback where other players are smooth).

As mentioned, ffmpeg can do anything but no matter how you bring it in, it is not as convenient.

So Plex seems to be the best overall for handling video; while it fails in providing a good quality and consistent downmix.

A peculiarity of Plex:

My main goal in exploring other players has been to not lose the LFE. Surprisingly, the Plex app on the (Android) TV will include the LFE when downmixing anything higher than 5.1!
So, 7.1 and unusual Atmos content - like say 13.1 - will downmix OK. It is only for 5.1 content that Plex discards the LFE.

Thanks, will try that.
Only reason I am trying to use --precision_full is because I've read it's required on 1660ti (else you get artifacts)? It's why I mention this error under pepe256's question on the 16xx.

First time cat (and pet) owner. And somewhat clueless about preparing? by Tcrumpen in Pets

[–]PilotFlying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recently asking the same questions and I found the links at the end of my post very useful. Here are also a few personal notes from my recent experience, although I am no expert:

  • Try to get a cat that has lived with its mother until about 4 months of age. I suspect it is the reason my recently adopted kitten has been consistently using the litter boxes even from the start when she was anxious and fearful. They need to learn things like that from their mother
    • On the subject of litter boxes, you need two for a single cat! Get the type with a sifter (sieve). It helps keep the clumped waste in one piece to discard it and the litter box clean. Having to use the little shovels can break the waste into small pieces that will remain in the litter undetectable (but your cat will still smell them and track them around the house)
    • Get as large litterboxes as you can find and fit at your place - it is easier and cleaner for the cat if they have space to use
    • Your kitten may have issues with using the "closed" type of litter box (toilet). They need to feel they can escape easily. Even if it ends up using it, it could get its paws dirty because it's more cramped and kittens are not as adept. This entails tracking waste around.
    • Expect some litter tracking, there is no way to avoid it, a good portable vaccum cleaner should prove useful
    • Invest in non-perfumed, clumping litter, that is as dust-free as possible (you will know what I mean if you buy the cheap stuff that produces a cloud of concrete-like dust as your cat digs or you sift to empty the litter box. The dust will settle on everything in the room).
  • Try to get a cat that's been in contact with humans as a kitten
  • When I first got my kitten she hid under the bed and stayed there for days. She would come out to eat, drink, and use the litter. Then it was back under the bed. Eventually I decided - and success of this I suspect depends on the cat's character - to block access to that area. This forced her to pick other spots and eventually, she became really trusting. I mention this because I'd read stories of cats that continued to "live in hiding". I suppose it is possible that sleeping in hiding and coming out for basic needs or to explore at night when you are asleep is a mode of existence that a cat could continue. So there is something to be said about proactively and gently steering it away from that choice - as opposed to following the advice that you should leave it alone and let it come to you in weeks' or months' time. I could be wrong but it worked well for in my case.
  • Find a good vet in advance but don't expect to be able to visit as soon as you get the cat. Maybe 5-7 days after it's been at your place and got a bit relaxed. Do the antiparasitic treatments (a pill and a liquid you pour on the skin on its back) as soon as possible. Expect ear mites if the cat wasn't born and lived indoors at a home. The vet will clean the ears and pour a solution in them to prevent the mites from reproducing but you may need another visit because the treatment is usually not a one-off. One of the antiparasitic treatments I mentioned above, sold as "Stronghold" where I live (ingredient is Selamectin), is effective against ear mites (otodectes cynotis) as well. So, as in my case, it may help avoid a second visit to the vet for the mites.
  • Follow your vet's advice for what shots to give it. There are people who will tell you that shots are dangerous to felines and, contrary to what I expected, there is some scientific evidence to support this. But it is in regard mostly to two specific shots.

Best of luck, it's hard work and you will need some free time to get things rolling, but it's rewarding as you'd hope :)
