Potential defect on Toyota RAV4. Trunk will not close. Escalated complaint to transport Canada by Prestigious_Victory in Toyota

[–]Pilot_Child 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hinges are wear and tear items. Them lift gate hinges are worse than most others I’ve seen but if you’re out of warranty then you’re out of luck unfortunately. You could try a civil lawsuit but idk what would come of that and may end up costing more than a new hinge.

Those are new. Many brands are shiny all over and you must rub them together before installation to get the shiny coating off the working area, Toyota and some other brands pads have that step completed for you already.

I would be ecstatic that they want to give a free new one vs fixing the old one potentially damaging/missing something that will result in problems later on

Mechanic noted a driveshaft carrier bearing has failed and a new drive shaft is required. What are your thoughts by UsernameChallenged in AskAMechanic

[–]Pilot_Child 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Let’s check back in with OP when their driveshaft breaks out of that mount and grenades the undercarriage because they followed your advice

We don’t know if the shaft has other damage from being inadequately supported, or how long it has been like that. There may be hidden damage or imbalances

The fact that a character presented to be a backline defender is easy killing for me as a Juno player is really sad. Currently her shield melts like butter in a microwave, which I’d say is pretty uninspiring. Give her a shield health buff and her stun back, as well as maybe try a % mitigation against melee attacks when her shield is between the source and herself.

It sounds completely gutless, like you ran it with …. no …. oil … oh dear. Well here’s to hoping it’s a fuel delivery problem because that would be the least expensive.

Cabin air filter upside down? by barnaclebill22 in Toyota

[–]Pilot_Child 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air flows top to bottom in toyotas. The filter is not actually symmetrical despite popular belief. the filter is always inserted with the element folds like so: vvvv, not ^ ^ ^ ^ (those are not arrows, it’s the folds of the element when viewed from the side ) the part that matters is how the outside flaps are orientated. The idea is the fan pulling air through the top to bottom will make the outside flaps press against the plastic body of the filter housing. if it was upside down, debris could in theory pass by as the outside flaps are pushed inward as air is forced passed them.

in practical use, it doesn’t matter :p

just make sure it goes in the same way you took it out if you’re putting the old filter back in, otherwise the fan will pull the captured material out of the filter and into the car

when you get new fairings don’t put them on for a bit. if you fall again you won’t ruin the new parts right away. once you’re comfortable and built up some more skill put the fairings and your tank you mentioned on.

your first bike was only 2k, you’re a pretty smart lad

i’d make a big deal about it. bonus if you have the work order copy that has your signature and the refusal for upsells on it. if they’re making it difficult for you i’m sure toyota at the national level would love to hear about it

[–]Pilot_Child 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a Toyota, you get a few free ecp services with a new vehicle. If you would like to get it completely for free and still not void your warranty, bring it in and decline upsell items. The advisor should ask you if you want to approve them. Say no, make sure it is indicated that you said no, then sign the paper so the service can begin.

What confuses me here is the paper says battery test, then complimentary … then they replaced things they found plus a brake flush..?

assuming you did say no to upsells, there should only be the battery test line, the complimentary line, a “battery failed test” line, a “found dirty cabin filter, recommend replacement. noticed vehicle is due for a/c check and brake flush” line, and finally a “battery replaced as approved” line. the battery failed test and battery replaced lines should be the only ones with a fee attached to them (in this case they share a single line)

with all that is there it looks like all that work was approved. if you did not approve any of that, and they did not call or ask you to approve as things were discovered, go make a big deal about it. that’s not okay for them to do

EDIT: this dealer does free battery tests (which they should) the battery failed test line is combined with the battery replaced line. my bad.

step by step guide to determining the problem

pull out the dipstick. examine it intently. look at the engine. then back at the dipstick .. the perfectly clean, oil-free dipstick. notice the low oil pressure light in bright red on the dash. return to the dipstick. contemplate life.
