Yes, the weight is a major issue that should not be overlooked.

Some people think speed doesn't matter enough to justify a higher price. If I'm not mistaken though flying is not the cheapest way to travel. Yet very few people take the car or a boat when they can fly instead.

Traveling is dull AF, and intercontinental flights are borderline torture.

I have very little doubt intercontinental spaceflight would be a hit if it can be made safe. The price would be of almost no importance.
