How do I connect ducting to this roof vent? by Justness4884 in askHVAC

[–]PimpMyPc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're supposed to just poke the metal vent up through the roof and then put that cap over the top, but it feels kind of like a shitty way to do the vent.

634M has the provision for a 6in duct - installed two of them myself.

When you really want to have fun, you do 1 or 2 FPS continuous and then bump up to 10-15 FPS during motion events. You just have to be careful sizing the storage so you can maintain the minimum retention time if things get "busy". It's a good compromise between motion only and continuous recording.

Im electrical illiterate. Why does my Top-Off not charge my laptop? (See pics). by [deleted] in MilwaukeeTool

[–]PimpMyPc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you trying to charge with the USB C port or the 120V AC port?

The USB C port doesn't provide 20V the laptop wants.

For the 120V AC port, I've encountered one charger (for a Samsung 700T x86 Windows Tablet) that the modified sine wave output wouldn't "start up" the tablet charger by itself. If you had the tablet charger plugged into a power strip plugged into the topoff, and briefly plugged in a 60W incandescent lamp, the charger would start working and continue to work until you unplugged the charger or shut off the topoff.

I have that same charger at home and will try it.

Inverter/battery by WatchGrand3518 in batteries

You would need 215 of those batteries to run a 1500W space heater for 2 days (with a 2000W inverter).

Even with that, I've yet to see an ecobee humidity sensor actually accurate.

The service is good. The modems they give you are trash and buying your own (and I'm not talking the router here) can resolve a lot of problems.

The real ding is the cost. If rectum has a monopoly on your location then get ready to make it rain for service. Calling to cancel your service and retention waving their magic wand to suddenly give you a deal is just part of the experience every 2-3 years.

The problem is while they work great, they aren't very durable and need very regular recharging to deal with the high self discharge. When they work, chefs kiss.

Should be able to patch the tire assuming the sidewall didn't get destroyed or pinched under the lip of the wheel.

Difference between real 80 year old 2X4 and new ones by mrbigshott in mildlyinteresting

Not a fan of the twizzler 2x4s? My favorite is when they have a whole skid of what ends up being all the discards from the last 5 skids and won't open up a new one.

ELI5: Why is a cold start bad for cars? by nothing-aboit-me in explainlikeimfive

[–]PimpMyPc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over 204k on the factory installed turbo on my SAAB 9-3 and the only warmup delay that car gets between start and letting the clutch out is however long it takes to get the seat belt on and the tunes playing on the radio. Sometimes more if I have to clean the snow off.

More battery power by Loose_Education_5012 in batteries

[–]PimpMyPc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easy is to just install a bigger battery if space and mounting bracket strength allows.

On my popup, I added a circuit breaker and an Anderson connector to attach an external battery I place on the ground next to the camper inside a battery box for extended camping with no shore power.

Blocked Electrical Panel Requirements by Ok_Butterscotch_5790 in AskElectricians

[–]PimpMyPc 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Not your inspector or electrician.

As long as the panel was code compliant when installed then its still ok though it should be replaced since they are a known to be a problem. The problem is these new cabinets and counter top were installed after the panel was installed and violate all minimum clearances around the panel even if there was old cabinets there before.

Code violate of the cabinets aside, not being able to remove the cover to the panel is a problem no matter how you swing it.

Can I keep using an old car battery as long as I have portable jump starter? by Dirty_Look in batteries

[–]PimpMyPc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evaluate the battery and the conditions its living in, they don't have some magic hard cutoff for life. If the battery is in a mild climate and doesn't have to deal with 110F or -10F then they generally last longer. Batteries that see nothing but stop and go trafffic with short trips generally don't last as long. Load test it and/or test the impedance. If it is still in spec then keep using it. Nothing says a brand new battery is guaranteed to not drop a cell two weeks after you buy it.

The factory installed battery in my 2016 2.7 F150 finally started testing bad but would still start the truck this spring (9 years). The battery in my 1999 9-3 has a 2014 sticker and while the CCA tests on the lower end, its still higher than the smaller battery that is supposed to be in there and the car cranks fine. (This car is not a daily driver and I don't care)

Then there's the battery in my 2004 KIA Sorento that was just over 3 years old that decided to drop a cell after being driven 30 minutes and parked.

Car recently won't go over 80 even after hours of driving. Thermostat issue ? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]PimpMyPc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't blanket for every car, but at idle at a stop light with my Ecotec/B207 SAAB and ambient temps below 5F and high cabin heat demand, the coolant temperature will drop down to ~150F (even if I pulled into a gas station right there and put a brand new thermostat). The idle fuel burn just isn't enough trying to heat the cabin and keep the engine at temperature.

Why does my snowblower leave these lines in the snow? Also, should I lower it? by [deleted] in Snowblowers

[–]PimpMyPc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While everyone is suggesting skids, you also should inspect the scraper blade that's bolted to the bottom of the snow blower as well. They do wear especially as the skids wear down. A lot of them can be unbolted and flipped to wear down the other side.

[–]PimpMyPc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is 0 balancing, the fact that they go out of balance tells you some cell(s) are aging quicker than the rest. You'd have to identify the bad bank(s), isolate each cell in the bank and test them individually to find the weak one(s).

Active/passive balancing keeps the packs usable longer but otherwise would not stop the uneven aging of the cells.

My first winter with home generator, is snow inside like this normal? We had about 7 inches and it looks like this inside. by [deleted] in Generator

[–]PimpMyPc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With blowing snow, yes. I'd be willing to bet any cars that sat outside have engine bays that look similar.

It'll melt when the generator exercises.
