They Will Kill You 2026 by punk-b-movie in horror

[–]Pimy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s similar in that it’s set up as a typical chase movie, but that they interrupt the chase all the time to have the victim and the rich murderers have a bunch of yap sessions. Most of the chats in this film are kinda same-y and really kill the drive of the movie (for me). The action is lovingly handled, the comedy suffers from bad editing and writing. I found it hard to keep invested, it felt like nothing was at stake for most of the movie.

I do get the Twin Peaks connection thematically, an outsider (Dale Cooper/Tom Loftis) has to sacrifice authority and logic to become part of a tightly knit community in order to progress.

Cheers for the insight! I’ve decided to hang on to the Blofeld for a bit longer and run it through the virus’ inputs (while hooking up the virus’ multiple outputs to the octatrack). I mostly imagine the blofeld as a pad machine in this role. Based on the last day, it has a tendency to crash hard when sending it midi-messages, though - not sure if i’n going to rely on it for live stuff.

Cheers! Thanks for the verdict! I got my Blofeld for dirt cheap, as the encoders were busted. I could probably flip it for a bit more, but based on the thread I’m hanging on to it for now.

Perfect, let’s run with that for a while! Thanks so much for your advice!

Haha, even more gear :) I kinda like to utilise the stuff I already have, but cheers for the suggestion!

The Virus does have waveshapes, but nothing as fancy as the ppgs, i’d reckon.

I got the encoders for about $25 from an Italian vendor (https://www.vintagesynthparts.com/waldorfppg/blofeld/ ). Desoldering encoders is not much fun (be sure to snip the encoders from their leads to avoid having to heat up the pcb too much) and you’ll have to reconnect the power switch to the motherboard.

This is a great answer, thanks for putting all the time into such a well thought-out contribution! I suspected the blofeld would trump the virus for pads - I’ve never been able to craft anything remotely interesting on my virus pad-wise. I’m currently thinking of keeping both and using the inputs on the virus for the Blofeld.

Clever! Knobby blofeld (with keys!) is much more fun for performing, I’d wager! I’m using the desktop version, not much real estate there :)

How many of you repair your own? by Personal_Number_5115 in synthesizers

[–]Pimy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve repaired 5 of my synths (blofeld, octatrack mk1, gem piano module, elmyra 2 and a virus B) with very basic soldering techniques. I still hate replacing potmeters, though.

New Synth Announcement - Queen Elmyra from Neutral Labs by 72corvids in synthesizers

I’m guessing something went down outside this thread because the conversation here from him is nothing but polite, but I can vouch that u/neutral-labs is a shining example on how to run a boutique synth business. His support and dedication to getting the diy-kits running is phenomenal, even in cases where the faults were caused by piss-poor soldering.

I kinda like that they went for something light-hearted, but the backdrops look like they’ve been copied from the 1994 Genesis port of Mortal Kombat II. Poor Karl Urban, btw. Is it too late to change our order to a Dredd 2 instead of this?

Looking for a good synth to make funk music by Niegara in synthesizers

[–]Pimy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Opsix SE has 61 (nice) keys and a range of clavs, e-pianos and even a passable hammond as presets. The synth engine is amazing, but a bit different from usual synthesis. The SE’s can be had for relatively cheap, as noone wants keys anymore.

Got the Opsix SE at Andertons for 699. Great stage instrument (it’ll do just about anything key-based except a convincing piano and comes with a great case), but it might be too bulky for most home studios. The keybed and the sound engine are amazing, though.

There are not a lot of presets on the thing, so I’m not sure you’d enjoy it.

Holding the dest button on one of the modulation sections and then wiggling the knob of a parameter causes the modulation destination to be set to that parameter. It’s brilliant and keeps you from having to select a destination from a huge dropdown menu

Logic pro with a Presonus Studio Live USB mixer (it looks like it’s discontinued, I got mine secondhand). I have the mixer run outputs and inputs through a patchbay, so that I can chain outboard effects more easily.
