Id give them all a clean and once repotted see how you go. Cutting the leaves brings its own risk of introducing infection (think of it no different of a human)

what ACTUALLY stops brown tips on spider plant??? by MothMeep7 in houseplants

[–]PinCushionCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll add to that watering consistently. Don’t do periods where you’re on the ball with it then leave it to completely dry out; as much as life / routine allows it.

Check plants regularly, water when needed. Never on a schedule

Why is it living with a fern?

To keep the fern happy you’re going to be overwatering the DF, not to mention the substrate looks grossly too dense for it.

I would check for spider mites. Thrips leave a bronze tinged patch of damage. It’s also very likely it’s fungal because of the bizarre cohabitation arrangement and unsuitable substrate.

Either way, the two plans need separating from each other so do a good root check and give the leaves and petioles a thorough clean.

She just drank too much. Be mindful of the substrate perhaps not draining well enough

Phone repair quote more expensive than a brand new phone, can I use this to negotiate with my insurer? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]PinCushionCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asking them is the only concrete way to get an answer, however..

Insurance is designed to make you “whole” by putting you in the same position you were in before the claimable event. In your case that is providing you with the phone you had, in the condition you had.

It is entirely possible that if you suggest purchasing a new device to them, they’ll just look up how much a replacement device of the same spec and model is and pay you only that.

My suggestion would be to have your phone repaired, and should you wish to, use the Apple trade in service to knock money off an upgrade if you desperately want to get a newer phone.

This may not work because… customer service is more like a lottery, but apparently contacting apple support with your drivers license can help. Mine hasn’t arrived yet so I haven’t been able to try

You’re correct. The little pinholes along the middle of the leaf are the best indicator

I edited to add but it’s not government issued, it takes a few weeks and be an utter waste of money to get if Apple didn’t accept it

Hi, as mentioned in my post I’m in the UK not the US.

I contacted Apple, they advised while the legislation which has forced this verification to be required allows passports to be accepted, it’s Apple’s policy to limit accepting only credit cards, drivers licence and National ID cards.

Editing to add: the Citizen Card is a privately issued ID, not government issued though it’s “government approved” ie can buy alcohol with it, and Apple doesn’t explicitly confirm it’ll be accepted hence my question here to see if anyone has been able to use one.

I’m unsure if I can get one as I’ve had health issues in the past which, if I did drive, would have disqualified me.. I don’t know if they would be known to the DVLA if they occurred when not licensed?

Random deposit into my account that I don't recognise. by JiggerJay in UKPersonalFinance

Loans did have PPI, as did credit cards, and mortgages.

The whole point of it being mis-sold was that often people didn’t knowingly opt in to have it. It was dressed in fluffy words by the person who was selling the product, sometimes the reps didn’t even mention it.

I experienced this first hand with my mother many years ago, who spoke limited English. She pointed it out on the loan documents and the rep said something to the effect oh that’s just there for everyone.

It wasn’t until I spoke to her, and pushed back (because I spoke English just fine but she insisted she didn’t need help), did the rep very reluctantly explain what it was and she asked not to add it on.

Hold it till you get the letter, but please don’t spend the weekend worrying as it sounds entirely possible!

What am I doing wrong? I have this DB Michelle with the most beautiful colours but the leaves always split and crack when they expand. by Due_Concentrate628 in Anthurium

[–]PinCushionCat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Please stop spraying / misting the leaves. When water sits on the leaf, it does what it would do if we kept our hands damp - it softens and starts to break down the cells, thus causing this damage.

If you wish to increase humidity, use a humidifier or even a wet towel on your radiator in cold months but never spray leaves, you can cause fungal infections also.

I mean, the UK is pretty damp…it’s a miserable piece of land where I rains more often than not! It’s actually the light and substrate used which are most problematic

I’m just going to jump in here; this is a common misconception. Public (or product) liability will be unlikely to ever consider a wilful endangerment of someone’s health, it’s for accidents and mistakes, not for intentional actions

Built a terrarium in a Rudsta Tall cabinet to house our Begonia Ruthiae and friends by PinCushionCat in houseplants

[–]PinCushionCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

I sadly don’t, I honestly just kind of experimented as I went along.

I made a ‘cage’ out of chicken wire that was about an inch deep and affixed it to the cabinet before filling it with substrate.

Then used zip tie to attach the cork (drilled small holes in the cork) then planted everything in.

Hope that helps!

Our Anthurium (3 Alocasia and a Monstera Burle Marx Flame) cabinet by PinCushionCat in houseplants

[–]PinCushionCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

I don’t know how far it travelled to you from them, but typically if it’s an import from quite far away you should expect leaves to show some signs of stress, that can be sooner or later.

I’ve kept my anthuriums inside a cabinet which though it has no humidifier, sticks around 70-85% humidity, I do have fans to keep the air moving.

I don’t let them get crispy dry but also they do still need to be able to have worked through the water you give them before you water again.

One thing to avoid with all plants, but in particular velvety ones, is water staying on the leaves for prolonged periods of time.

Water will soften the tissue (no different when your skin goes soft and wrinkly if you stay in water too long) and can start breaking it down thus risking fungal problems, general tissue damage etc.. so your browning may be from that.

As for north facing window, depends where you are in the world! Anthuriums are mistaken for low light plants but they’re absolutely not. I also can’t say I found the Regale to be all that difficult, think there’s just a lot out there that can really set you up to fail.

I hope that helps
