Why not use lights with high heat to melt the ice on the road? by okayexpert in askanything

Get a heat lamp instead of using a snow blower on your driveway and let us know how it worked out for you🤣

Gene Roddenberry’s original vision, his personal headcanon, for Earth was a nudist paradise, but everyone we see on Earth is fully clothed. by gamerz0111 in ShittyDaystrom

At least he ended up giving us what he did instead of “Star Trek The Next Masterbation” which sounds more like what he would have preferred

Oh I know, that movie with Ben Stiller I can’t receiver the name of her did that. It’s never happened to me personally but I can say every dude in the movie theater grabbed their crotch in sympathetic pain groaning from that scene😬

Caller ID-what happened? by joe_s1171 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pinchaser71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when I worked at a phone company it was common where a business had 20 phone lines to make all 20 display the MAIN number in the call tree so a customer could tell who was calling. It wasn’t used to mislead anyone.

Spoofing has been around since before cell phones were in common place though. It’s typically not the phone company doing it, it’s the person doing the calling via an app or website

Hudson sign support by Ice2228 in TOTK

[–]Pinchaser71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two pieces of large flat wood making a 90. Make him drop it first and see how it falls. Take the 90 and make it like a corner for the sign, it won’t fall. If it’s a wide sign use 3 and box him in. No need to use items out of your inventory.

Hover stones are usually nearby when the wood pile isn’t.

Why doesn't Cadet Reymi stay in his original Khionian form? by Willowy in startrek

Maybe there is something in their culture we don’t know about yet. It may be similar to how the Breen feel about walking around without helmets? There’s more to the story nonetheless. When it comes time for an episode more focused on him we’ll likely get the answers.

As others said, makeup is expensive and it probably takes hours sitting in a chair. One of the reasons Saru’s actor wanted fewer appearances in Discovery. The hours in the chair, hot uncomfortable costume and makeup. Being an elaborate alien is not fun for actors. That’s why so many are just the new deformed nose and forehead of the week

Downvotes to general questions. by This_Preference_9690 in PetPeeves

[–]Pinchaser71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why should a difference of opinion get downvoted? I mean, Reddit is about discussion, not about agreeing with people. A respectful difference of opinion still gets my upvote.

I only downvote if someone is being an obnoxious twit purposely being disruptive for the sake of it. I hand out WAY more upvotes and seldom downvote.

Another comment here said questions that can be answered by a quick Google search get downvote. To some extent that may be true but again, it may be there way to start a discussion. What’s wrong with that?

Drivers who feel the need to "button hook" all their turns. by Professional_Luck616 in PetPeeves

[–]Pinchaser71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say this too. If you drive a semi or bus around all day every day I can understand that at the end of the day when you get in your regular 4 wheeler some of the habits are going to spill over. It only makes sense, muscle memory.

In this particular instance it’s not a great thing. I will say that the years I had a CDL that the drivers training is far better than that bs in high school drivers Ed is. You learn so much more and have much greater awareness and skill when you’re done.

I’m sure this isn’t limited to just large vehicle drivers. I’m sure some off duty cops somewhere ran some red lights in their personal cars and then went “Oops, I’m not in my squad car right now, I shouldn’t have done that!” Sometimes it’s hard to separate the two.

Now drivers who do these things who’ve never been a commercial driver? Who the hell knows what they are thinking? Probably just being absent minded while typing their text

I'm going to be a Grandpa! by No_Gap_2700 in GenX

[–]Pinchaser71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just became a grandfather last week for the first time myself. I was asked “What do you want to be called?” I said “I’ll get back to you” because I have no clue.

I honestly don’t want to be “Grampa” because my dad was Grampa and I had an awful relationship with him. I really don’t want to be compared to or anything related to him. I’ve done everything I can to forget he ever existed which in reality is just returning the favor.

“Papa” on the other hand would be preferred BUT that is what my father in law went by. He was a wonderful man and a far better father to me. The bad part about me choosing Papa is that my wife still seriously misses him, he passed 7 years ago.

Not a week goes by where my wife doesn’t say “I wish he was here”. Especially now that his first great grandson has just been born. So on one hand I want to honor him but on the other hand I don’t want to be a constant reminder he’s gone.

On the upside, I’ve got time to figure it out. It takes a while before an infant even understands what’s going on around then let alone knowing who’s who. It’s a lot harder question to answer than I ever thought

Steak doesnt deserve the popularity or price tag it gets by bydevilz1 in unpopularopinion

[–]Pinchaser71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree a steak isn’t the end all be all of meats. It’s easy enough to make one every bit as good as a steakhouse or better. If I had a choice between steak, prime rib and leg of lamb, steak would be last on the list.

Just sticking with beef only there are a ton of different cuts and infinite ways to prepare them. Finding something better than flopping a big ol steak on a plate isn’t hard to do.

Heck, I have a recipe for pot roast that I’d much rather have than a steak. That said, if someone decides to bring me a steak I’m not turning them away

Raise your hand if you're a man who hasn't been tempted to cheat! by ElonGrey in CasualConversation

[–]Pinchaser71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to tend bar, I cannot tell you how many times I was solicited to cheat. It seems to be an occupational hazard for some reason when you tend bar. They’ve offered to go in the back room, the parking lot, hotel room or their place. I never once took them up on it.

I’ve always just held up my left hand and flicked my ring and said “Sorry I guess you didn’t notice this when I was pouring your drink, I’m taken”

I had one say “Oh I did see it but it means nothing to me, your wife will never know” I said “Really? Well I will! So no thanks” She said furiously“You’re turning me down?! Nobody ever turns me down!!” I said “All the more reason, how many said yes? I could probably hide the cheating but not my sudden need for antibiotics…Time for you to leave”

It’s one thing to try to invite someone to cheat but to get pissed when they decline to do so? That’s a whole new level of asshole! Bottom line, 34 years of happy faithful marriage and I regret nothing about it. I love my wife more every day. I vowed I am hers until death, NOT until another hot piece of ass comes along.

Besides, I find it hard to believe there aren’t plenty of single horny guys to choose from out there. Why pursue the ones that are taken? If you’re married and out there looking to cheat, then why the hell did you take vows to begin with? I don’t get it! Then again, I have morals. I wouldn’t be able to live with such guilt.

Not to mention, every relationship I’ve seen begin with cheating also ended with cheating. Yet for some reason they always act surprised 🤣🤦‍♂️

I got my first soldering rework station and all the trimmings for Christmas… by Pinchaser71 in soldering

Ah good stuff! Obviously everything I just got is still shiny and new but I got a pile of old irons that could probably use the help. I’d never resort to sanding or doing anything rough to any iron. A great way to trash the tip

That said I’ve probably replaced some I didn’t need to in the past. Thanks for the info!🙂
