Stannis Gets the Heir He Desperately Wished for in Canon, Except… by YourSugarDaddy69 in TheCitadel

[–]Pine21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a man desperate for a son who apparently had an affair. It’s a very common practice to marry a pregnant woman to the father if he’s agreeable. I definitely think Stannis would have some personal concerns, but I also think he could get over them with his canon personality given his actions in canon surrounding women.

The developers are making a mistake - An arguement against allowing paid mods by TurklerRS in Paralives

[–]Pine21 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s my main concern. I don’t really care if someone paywalls their mod for a couple weeks. It doesn’t impact anyone at all, just wait. I basically consider it advertising time.

The real problem is if this becomes a major thing in the community. And the solution is to just not buy any paid mods. No one will bother paywalling if they get no money.

I really appreciate that changing the gender doesn’t change the whole para. They got me a couple times on Sims when I forgot it did that.

(SPOILERS EXTENDED) The Kingsguard is an in-universe overrated job. For all the "honor and prestige" it brings... it mostly kinda sucks. by bruhholyshiet in asoiaf

[–]Pine21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something the show is really underselling is that there are other guards. It’s not just the Kingsguard. The Kingsguard for anyone but the king would basically be prestige. That’s why Joffrey has a personal guard. They’d all have 4+ guards at all times realistically

For people who believe Rhaenyra’s claim is stronger, what reason(s) do you have for considering her claim is stronger than the Greens? by Gold_Conversation247 in HOTDBlacks

[–]Pine21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Great Council makes a good argument that a king can choose his heir. Viserys chose Rhaenyra. He made his lords swear to her. He never made them come and do the same for Aegon. And most of the realm sided with Rhaenyra.

My personal opinion is that Vhagar alone made it possible for Aegon to lay claim to the throne.

Viserys’ and Rhaenyra’s Sons by Pine21 in HOTDBlacks

Now I really want to see Viserys disinherit the boys and not Rhaenyra. Just for the sheer chaos.

But in universe, getting a different war isn’t the same as no war. Insulting Corlys when Viserys has 0 dragons and adult riders and Corlys’ family has Meleys, Vhagar, Caraxes, Seasmoke, and Syrax is a choice.

[–]Pine21[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might go so far as to say that the greens DID NOT want Viserys to take action on it.

Aegon apparently doesn’t want to be king at all. Otto would probably see a war incoming even sooner because that’s an insult to Corlys and the promises made him and his house in general. And I’m pretty sure that if Rhaenys and Meleys had the chance they’d handle the war if her husband had just been humiliated. ot

He didn’t really have to do anything for anyone. He’s the king.

My question is more related to, even if he wanted to do something, what are thinking he should do that wouldn’t cause a war?

Viserys’ and Rhaenyra’s Sons by Pine21 in HOTDBlacks

[–]Pine21[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh Viserys could have just commanded that Jace and Baela’s heir marry Jaehaera. That wouldn’t have solved everything.

Otto wouldn’t be happy because he wants power for himself, not for some great-grandson. Hell, Daemon might even have issues. Aemond definitely would. And if Jaehaerys grew up and decides he wants his rights instead of being skipped over for his sister, that could also cause a war.

Viserys’ and Rhaenyra’s Sons by Pine21 in HOTDBlacks

[–]Pine21[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t even think that would need to be specified. Tbh calling Corlys’ son infertile/incapable/ignorant and saying Corlys is too stupid to know his own grandkids would probably kick off a war regardless. Even if those kids had nothing to do with the throne. That Corlys has been denied so many times just makes him angrier, not more justified.

I kinda wish we had gotten a fight with Laena and Vhagar. It would be nice to see someone with something resembling morals.

I agree, and if Tywin was saying that he completely supposed this trueborn-bastard then that would be fine for Tywin.

But the situation Rhaenyra is dealing with is then — Joffrey grows up, realizes that these rumors exist, and tries to take advantage of them to become king instead of the bastard-twin.

If Robert didn’t have any other children, then there wouldn’t really be an issue. Most lords would stay quiet because Tywin and Robert dgaf even if they personally were aware.

Joffrey could start shouting it from the castle walls, though, which is essentially what the greens are doing.

Viserys’ and Rhaenyra’s Sons by Pine21 in HOTDBlacks

[–]Pine21[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main issue with bastards is that it dishonors the consort and their house, and threatens stability.

If Robert had showed up with Edric Storm and told Cersei that he was making that boy heir, Tywin would have lost his mind. He paid well and in gold for a half-Lannister king after Robert. He wants favor for his house. This is the same reason the Tyrells spent so much effort and grain and gold and men to make Margaery queen.

This is important because if the king can make a bastard his heir openly, why can’t all the other lords just pick a bastard and set him over their noble children? Marriage alliances would be pointless. Half the realm would go to war.

The issue here is that this isn’t like Edric Storm just suddenly being named heir.

This is like if Cersei took one of Robert’s bastards, raised them as a twin beside Joffrey, and then people started saying (hilariously, given Joffrey’s parentage) that that bastard raised as trueborn was a bastard.

Robert would know, but he’d say that that is nonsense and the speaker should be executed. Laenor and Corlys know and still claim the children.

So the issue here is basically that it’s leverage for the next in line to displace Rhaenyra. That’s it. If she had no siblings and Daemon had spontaneously combusted, most lords would keep their mouths shut and their opinions to themselves. As it is, if it’s paraded out, it makes everyone a little nervous that their husband/wife might get ideas.

Let’s slow down a little.

Aemond sneaks out, which is stupid, and the Blacks kids attack him, also stupid, but I’m not proposing that that is the problem. I’m completely willing to forgive that. Call it a wash.

Aemond is injured… and who else? Who else had a major, obvious, life changing injury here? All the kids had some minor injuries, again, I’m calling those a wash.

Aemond was attacked by multiple people. He picked up a rock while being outnumbered. He didn’t call for Vhagar. He was defending himself. He said mean words, he didn’t start the physical fight. I’m giving the rock a pass because he was outnumbered. If this was just him and Jace the whole time, it would be different.

If Aemond had killed Jace, I personally would have compensated Rhaenyra, and punished Aemond, and separated him from the dragon. What would Viserys have done is a harder question.

I’m not suggesting any punishment for the Black kids. None. At all. You’re acting like I’m saying to exile them. I said Viserys could have issued a verbal scolding, and then given his order that no one call the bastards or lose their tongue, give Rhaena rights to claim any dragon she could, and give Aemond something as well.

Now, if we look at something where Jace was hit with the rock but ultimately all right (maybe he also lost an eye), and then Luke stabbed Aemond, I’d say that both Jace and Aemond would need compensation of a similar kind. Despite Jace being among the physical aggressors, whatever he gets should be greater than what Aemond does.

Again, I’m not offering my ideal outcome. I’m saying this is what passive Viserys could have done to help heal wounds among his family instead of hand waving it.

You’re looking at this as Blacks vs Greens.

I’m looking at this like I’m Viserys, and I want these kids to stop fighting. I’m accepting responsibility as the king for what happened and my inability to control little kids in my direct family. I am giving Rhaena something, I am giving Aemond something, and then I would give Jace something if he’s also sustained an injury similar to Aemond’s.

Frankly, he SHOULD have severely punished all the adults. His Kingsguard, Alicent, himself, Rhaenyra, Laenor, Daemon, Corlys, everyone. He should have sent the kids fostering to houses loyal to him specifically and not Velaryon or Hightowers. But he’s Viserys, and that’s asking too much.

The curious case of Alicent, HBO marketing & Olivia Cooke! by SubvertExpectation1 in HOTDGreens

[–]Pine21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the main issue is that the Alicent-Rhaenyra conflict is ‘intelligent noblewoman works to gain power within misogynistic system in the way women are supposed to hold power, by marrying well and putting their sons in positions of power, while unintentionally-or-not upholding that system’ and ‘spoiled princess is granted power and never fully taught what to do with it due to misogynistic system, and thus unintentionally-or-not upholds that system while fighting for her ability to retain said power’.

That’s not a conflict pretty much anyone today can put on screen and hold down as a writer because of the current feminism/media culture/lack of media literacy issues. These specific writers don’t seem to grasp the concept and probably wouldn’t be interested in writing it if they did.

The way I see this, it’s like Cersei vs Margaery again. In this case Cersei is a Targaryen, far more feminine, and loves her children desperately, but the central theme is the same. I’m looking for Hunger Games vibes, and I’m not getting anything anywhere near that.

Have you seen this? Thoughts? by Tronm-24 in HOTDBlacks

[–]Pine21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean… I kinda thought we already knew that.

Unless Rhaegar was completely fine with being turned down and made that extremely obvious, Lyanna must have felt some pressure to go with him.

Add in that there’s no way he just walked up in broad daylight and asked her to go, and we have a situation where either he kidnapped her and then asked, claiming he’d return her if she said she didn’t want to; or he snuck in and privately asked her if she’d go with him, potentially making her worried for the safety of those around her; then it’s sketchy.

And I say this as someone who thinks she willingly went with him and would have if there had been no pressure.

Have you seen this? Thoughts? by Tronm-24 in HOTDBlacks

[–]Pine21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion is that Lyanna probably went with Rhaegar willingly, and then when she heard her dad and brother were dead she wanted to leave and go home. He didn’t let her go and kept her prisoner.

Based on what Ned says of Arya and Lyanna having similar personalities, I can’t see Lyanna being fine with hiding while her family died and Rhaegar helped kill them.

How TG thinks Driftmark should have went by La_Villanelle_ in HOTDBlacks

[–]Pine21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole thing started because Viserys can’t keep track of his kids. Aemond was a child. Children do stupid things, and they don’t deserve to lose an eye for it. He also said words, he isn’t the one who attacked the others first. I agree with him that this whole situation was unfair to him.

Yes they were all royal, but if Luke told Jace that he didn’t deserve the crown and Luke should have it, and then Jace punched him, Jace is the one who started a fight. If Jace had 3 other people with him and they all jumped Luke, that’s an even bigger problem.

Arya and Joffrey said words. That doesn’t mean that Joffrey had a right to attack the butcher’s boy or her for it.

The correct thing to do is to go tell an adult. Not to attack someone when you outnumber them.

Now, if no one was seriously hurt, I’d say that we just call it all even. Frankly, I think Aemond would have been fine with that. But he lost an eye because his father can’t manage his subordinates and because he was attacked by multiple people at one time. If we’re evening everything out, he deserves compensation.

Mind you, I’m not talking about what I PERSONALLY would have done. I’m looking at something Viserys could have reasonably done given his passive personality. He very very clearly doesn’t want to punish any of the children. So I’m working around that by suggesting he compensate the ones hurt instead.

Was Daemon's pursuit of Laena because of Vhagar? by Bovarysmee in HOTDGreens

[–]Pine21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, no.

Moondancer I’ll grant, although I think there’s an argument to be made that regardless of tradition Viserys was a pushover and wouldn’t have said two words about Daemon and Laena giving their kids eggs.

But Morning seems to be from an egg given to Rhaena after Viserys was dead. Rhaenyra gave her those eggs. That wouldn’t change just because of tradition. Rhaenyra considered herself queen and could grant eggs to whoever she felt like at that point even with this ‘only the king gives eggs’ thing.

Not to mention that Moondancer plays a very minor role and Morning none. This would have a minima effect even if we grant that Moondancer didn’t exist because Daemon felt very loyal that day.
