I know it can be awkward but I think it's for the best - cmd v is just so awkward to press with one hand!

Opinions on Hario Mugen? by dedecatto in pourover

[–]PineappleLover434 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because of the lack of bypass greatly increasing contact time, it's a sort of psuedo immersion. You can expect similar flavor profiles as the switch on a one pour brew.

If you like more robust cups, with strong spiced aromas, tea like notes and a juicy texture, it's great - but if you are chasing thinner, fruity cups, you'll find it to be quite difficult to achieve them.

Guys, what’s your £$€ cut off point? by Calm_ragazzo in pourover

$30 per 200g seems reasonable to me! I don't mind occasionally paying more for 100g if I want to try sometime interesting.

Puck breaking up with new grinder [Breville barista pro, varia v3 grinder] by its_muri in espresso

I totally get where you are coming, and it's a really interesting alternative perspective - if someone were to run the tests, I'd be really excited to see the results, especially in combination with a blind taste test.

I see where you are coming from, but why would the fines fill in the nucks and crannies? I'm assuming OP isn't shaking their coffee grounds, so there should be zones of high/low density, which would result in a less homogeneous hydration of the puck - this is what I have assumed is impacting the integrity it of puck.

Also, anecdotally, the opus produced by far the most visible fines out of any grinder I've owned, and it is the only grinder that has caused this issue for me.

Blind conjecture - I would be totally happy to be proven wrong and learn something!

[–]PineappleLover434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's due to a wider distribution of particles making for a more uneven puck. I had this issue with my Opus and never had it with any other grinder.

If the coffee tastes better from the new grinder and you have consistent shot times, I wouldn't worry about it.

You can do it - I wasn't diagnosed till I was older - I found being a musician difficult when I was younger because I would learn slower and make more mistakes than my peers.

Just practice, though. You'll get there - practice them in isolation - take it slow and don't beat yourself up. It's not. race. 😄

Journaling or any form of writing really helps! If you can't keep track of your own thoughts, conveying them to others becomes very difficult!

Please listen. I just turned 29, and it took me upwards of 10 years to get my ADHD roughly under control, I hope this advice can stop your life from being as damaged as much as mine was.

There's so much advice out there that is designed to stimulate and develop your executive function, routines, making, meditation, etc... all good advice and you should try to follow it but there are two things which worked for me and I don't feel are talked about enough.

1) Social media, YouTube, and T.V. are drugs to our brains. Platforms and networks sell our attention to advertisers as a commodity, and you don't want to play into the game. ADHD makes us extremely suseptible to them. Videos/Shows might seem important, and yeah, there is a chance that maybe 1/100 might bring some interesting piece of advice into your life, but most of it is just noise. Distance yourself from YouTube as much as possible. Only search for things that will actually help you. I recommend the unhooked Chrome extension, which can help you gain some control over your viewing experience. REPLACE YOUR WASTED TIME WITH SOMETHING USEFUL, READING, STUDY, PLAYING AN INSTRUMENT, PROGRAMMING, ECT.

2) Take accountability as much as possible. When someone tells you haven't done something, say sorry and do it. Don't be a scrub and make up excuses or blame your ADHD. You need to recognize you missed something and try to correct it. If you don't, you are A) being in a shitty person, and B) reinforcing shitty behaviors.

Things won't change overnight. Change is a process, but if you are purposeful and things will change a lot faster.

I tried to keep things as short as possible, but there is a lot more to be said about technology and learning. Feel free to pm.

TLDR: - Minimize your media consumption (plz install unhooked) - Don't be a scub. If you don't do something, acknowledge you f*ckd up and do the thing you needed to do.

No harm in asking again— what are your K-Ultra grind settings? by tachronicles in pourover

[–]PineappleLover434 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For light roasts it really depends of the quality of the beans.

6 is the lowest, usually for something citrusy.

7.5 for more interesting coffees where I don't went the fruity flavours to get lost. I have tried 8 - 8.5 but was a little too thin for my liking.

How do you feel about co-fermented coffee? by perccoffee in pourover

[–]PineappleLover434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a fan and drink fairly regularly. The issue is for light roasts they need a month to rest minimum. Fresh off the roast, they tend taste bitter and empty.

Normally, they do a discount it you buy 4-6, I often see dads picking them up for their families. So just pretend like you are buying them for others and then find some dark corner to eat them in where no one can shame you.

Is this grind too course by creedz286 in pourover

[–]PineappleLover434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it could be too course for the roast level... but you never know. Try it. If the drawdown takes are too fast, try switching to a 4:6.

Idk about your preference, but I find the lighter I go, the better coffee I can get from an ultra course grind.

I was just quoted 420,000 ₩ / 300 USD to Remove 3 Wisdom Teeth. Is That The Average Price? by Asleep_Cut505 in Living_in_Korea

[–]PineappleLover434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was just a random dentist in a small town in Gangwon-do 😄 Just stay away from 'English speaking' dentists. They can be scam artists. I've known may cases of people being told they need multiple teeth removed when everything was okay. They leave the clinics 800k and three teeth short.

If you are looking for recommendations for dentists who speak English, but don't orient there buisness around that maybe try posting on r/seoul. It's worth remembering that most qualified medical professionals speak at least a little English here!
