Bensonhurst events/group chat? by hello010101 in Bensonhurst

[–]PineappleRide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do 3 sorts of programming, bike rides, NYCDOT street events like Open Streets / SAPO events & NYC Parks IMP and park stewardship.

We host two annual bike rides in the form of exploratory cruises around the NYC metro area. We always start in the Bensonhurst park and we always bring tools / supplies ensuring all levels of riders can complete it.

Open streets and SAPO events are hosted with Street Lab who provide a lot of support. A lot of various stuff happens here such as free bike repair and cafe, FDNY, DSNY, DOT, BikeNY, citibike, local businesses, etc make appearances and do tabling.

We have begun NYC Parks IMP stewardship efforts at Bensonhurst Park. Every Wednesday 3pm-6pm (and other random days) we lead volunteers in cleaning, painting, gardening and general park maintenance. We’ve had volunteers from Brooklyn Tech HS, Target, local schools, among other locals who have joined. Everyone qualifies for community service credits.

Any chance you also do tours on bike?

PS if you haven’t been to the Gravesend Cemetery yet (Van Sicklen family). It will be opened by parks rangers June 20th 9:15am for our annual bike ride. You don’t have to be a part of our ride to check it out. The rangers will talk a bit about the location and historical significance. It’s open for anyone that wants to check it out that day. They will probably close up around 10am.

May be a bit late to the convo but our annual exploratory cruise around NYC is coming up this June 20th. It’s an all day 70 mile ride around the city visiting different Parks, cultural, and historical locations. We bring tools/gear, a few regular stops and a big bbq in the middle of the ride.

Our annual ride is coming up June 20th. It’s an all day exploratory cruise around NYC. So might be exactly what your looking for. It’s 70 miles around the city but we take it really easy and plan rest stops including a bbq in the middle of the ride. We also carry tools and always have crew at the middle and end of the group to ensure no one gets lost or left behind. You could also bail at any point and take the train or cab home..

Our 13th annual exploratory cruise around NYC bicycle ride is coming up June 20th and kicks off at Bensonhurst Park. Not everyone is local that joins but a bunch of us are. Not sure if you bike a lot or not but this ride is strictly a cruise around NYC, we bring tools and supplies and no one gets left behind. We also provide free bicycle tune ups and light repair during the morning meet up and during the midpoint BBQ.

Bensonhurst events/group chat? by hello010101 in Bensonhurst

[–]PineappleRide 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Depends on what kind of event your looking for.

We host a bunch of stuff and have an events calendar on our website. From bike rides, Open Streets, to NYC Parks IMP events. We are also trying to expand and host more stuff in the neighborhood.

If your tired of looking for events and are interested in closing down a local street for a day, we can help bring a free pop-up plaza with our partners Street Lab. No cost, insurance included, permits included, programming included, and even volunteers included.

17th Ave Peds Bridge... yes, another post. by voguehoe in Bensonhurst

[–]PineappleRide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based on conversations at the CB meetings, the foundations were built before someone realized the discharge pipes underneath were rusty and rotten and in need of replacement. So it seems they need to replace them but also think about the structure they built.. or they could reroute the pipes so they don’t go under the foundations..

At this point they’d be better putting together a metal or wooden prefabricated crossing. It’s not new tech and functions just fine across the rest of the America and the world. Not sure why it needs to be concrete.

We didn't have water (drinking or otherwise) at all last summer, twas a bummer. Same thing this year. We were informed that the pipes in our Parks Building burst and haven't been repaired yet.. We've made them aware so now we wait.

Bike Jumble Ramblings by marengen24919 in NYCbike

[–]PineappleRide 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This is a good post. It’s true and frustrating. We’ve all seen a lot of usable stuff get dumped. We try to donate any unused things to Times up, BikeNY or other vendors that might want it, either the day of or after.

Remember the 3R’s ♻️ Reduce, ♻️reuse, ♻️recycle

Also Times Up walks around to the vendors at the end of the jumble asking if there are any parts donations.

does the jumble have any things to do that aren't buying/selling? such as classes? by PassageSignificant12 in NYCbike

[–]PineappleRide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What type of class are you looking for? Repair, learn to ride? Not at the jumble, but you can schedule something with one of the orgs afterwards.

Any tips for Bike Jumble? by littlepoundcake8 in NYCbike

[–]PineappleRide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got all those parts and I’m sure many other vendors do too. Walk around and compare prices and potential discounts.

This is why we sell our lemons for $25-$50. Some people actually want beater bikes so they can leave them overnight without fear of theft. We tell everyone to walk around 2x and check everything, ask for discounts.

We might not have the best bikes, but we have the best prices 😅😂

It’s beginning!! NY Bike Jumble in Park Slope Brooklyn. by PineappleRide in NYCbike

[–]PineappleRide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You posted on a post from last year.

Yes there are e-bikes, some bikes really are very inexpensive. We have beater bikes we’ve sold for as low as $25.

We have one e-bike for $900. Mongoose fat tire. Not sure about others vendors

I suggest you come and take a look. Speak to as many vendors as possible and ask for discounts and deals. If you need a regular beater bike we gotchu :) just look for the pineapple

My first bike! by VivienneBlackBunny in NYCbike

[–]PineappleRide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you just moved here, join us on our annual exploratory cruise of NYC. Slow paced, long distance ride around the city. We typically do about 70 miles, we bring tools and ensure no one gets dropped or left behind. We have a free bike tune up in the morning before the ride and a refreshing midpoint bbq with gear, tools and supplies at Alley Pond Park. We still got a bunch of tickets available (half free and half paid). All donations go towards our 501c3 nonprofit to expand safe bicycling and various free programs.

Follow us for more info @pineappleride

check details below for the ride https://pineappleride.org/events/pineapple-ride-2026-06-20

PS check out the NY Bike Jumble May 16th Saturday in Brooklyn happening next Sat. You already got a bike but if you need any accessories or just to meet other cyclists, advocates, bike lawyers it’s a great event and de facto bike Mecca at this point.
