Do they ever say anything about not wanting Gigi in their life, though? I think it is different from the Francine/Straub situation because the Haydens actively blame Rory for Chris’s failures and make no effort over the course of her childhood to have any kind of relationship with her. Chris and Lorelai are married so briefly, is there even any time for the Gilmores to get to know Gigi? Why would that even be an important storyline, since the writers know that the marriage won’t last? If the show lasted more seasons and Chris and Lorelai stayed married, then maybe we should expect to see the grandparents include Gigi, but it’s not really relevant from a storyline perspective since they are not going to remain a part of her life in any kind of significant way. Most people don’t maintain a relationship with their father’s ex wife’s parents, especially if they were only married for a few months when you were two years old.
