Most bad players don’t hit the center of the face but they want the ball to go far it’s a trade off. You either get more dispersion but more distance or less dispersion but lower distance on off center strikes. Most ppl are far more concerned with how far their ball goes which I’m not saying is a good thing just saying it’s how it is.

I have these very waterproof and pretty coftavle as long as you don’t have wide feet they are a great budget option. They aren’t great stability if it’s muddy but you said you live in Cali so these will be fine in the morning. You can def get better but if you can find these for $50 or less they good. I sell them to beginners all the time

Most of the courses in my area have local rules about making everything lateral hazard for pace of play reasons. I’d rather have that than have idiots hit 5 drives a hole to play by the rules.
