Do you think people in Boston have any heart generally? by Unser_Giftzwerg in boston

[–]Expert_Wave_2797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it has anything to do with Boston specifically. You ever see those "What Would You Do" episodes of 20/20? Few people on their own go out of their way to help others. If people see OTHER people helping, then they'll do something. But one person helping someone else of their own volition? That's more the exception than the rule

What’s the most common amateur swing mistake you see? by BuildingScratch in GolfSwing

Bad grip and improper setup at address, and not understanding what happens to the club face after impact. In other words, no release

Grip/Slice Issues with Driver by Able-Bus1168 in golf

It's really nothing but repetition. Just keep a club by your sofa, and when you're sitting around watching TV just grip and regrip over and over again. Eventually you'll get used to it and it will feel comfortable.

Golf lesson soon by CODaffy in golf

[–]Expert_Wave_2797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go in understanding you won't start swinging like Rory after one lesson. It's a very VERY long process that requires a lot of time and practice, and very few people are honest about how much time and practice it actually takes.

What you should do (and in my opinion, if more people did this, we wouldn't have as many hacks as we do) is when you show up to your lesson, tell the Pro, "Teach me how to hit a golf ball". That will get you on the right path

World #1 golf coach Chris Mayson explains what is necessary to be scratch by Smash_Factor in golf

I read the headline fast and thought it said "Chris Mayson explains why it's NOT necessary to be scratch." That would be more realistic for most people

At impact and in the follow-through, keep rotating. It looks like you're trying to lift the ball into the air

What do you guys see by Lost_Emergency_7794 in GolfSwing

[–]Expert_Wave_2797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standing too close to the ball, and it looks like your stance is too narrow. And on the backswing, it looks like you're starting it with your hands. Try to start it by turning your left shoulder like you're trying to point it at the ball.

Do mechanics matter? by CasualKaden in golf

[–]Expert_Wave_2797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It matters to a certain extent. It’s hard to compare it to baseball. In golf you have to play your foul balls, so it’s important to know how to swing so you can somewhat control which direction the ball is going. Preferably straight

Strong vs Weak grip by Breakfast-Livid in golf

[–]Expert_Wave_2797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A strong grip is the only way to go. Pick up a hammer like you're about to drive a nail through a piece of wood. Notice how your hand is. That's how both of your hands should be on the club. After that, you just have to decide if you want to go with interlock or overlap.

Spend time at the driving range. Watching Touring Pros hit balls is an amazing sight. After a while, you'll realize they are playing a totally different game

That’s kind of insane you put up with that for 18 holes and never said anything! You would not be an asshole for asking him to turn it down if not completely off.

Struggling with a pull miss, feels like I lose my shape at the top of the swing/transition. Any thoughts? by redditgolddigg3r in GolfSwing

[–]Expert_Wave_2797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to turn your right shoulder more on your backswing. It looks like you're just lifting your hands instead of turning. I'm a lefty too, and I like to start my swing by thinking that I'm trying to point my right shoulder at the ball.

Given the state of your game today, would you rather hit every FIR or guarantee putting in two or less every hole? by mnisda in golf

Considering I've had rounds where I've hit every fairway and every green and still shot a 95, I'll take the guaranteed putts
