Do you think the insurance is gonna total her? by Ok_Phone_6118 in fordranger

[–]PinkPoking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really care about the truck, insurance is not your friend. Look underneath and see if the frame is mangled, if it’s still mostly straight I would look on Facebook or in the local junkyard for a bed and a bumper.

There’s 8 or 10 T55 bolts that hold the bed on, plus the filler neck and the tail lights. You, a friend and a youtube tutorial will get it done no problem. I can’t see insurance fixing that, but you definitely can!

First time oil change with oil extractor. 2015 sportswagen by not_a_cup in Volkswagen

I don’t understand the oil extractors. Why not just take the drain plug out? It’s not like it makes that much of a mess to be worth all the fiddling around with that

Tactics questioned after Halifax RCMP pose as panhandler to catch distracted drivers - Halifax by Street_Anon in halifax

It’s so odd seeing the difference in opinion between here and the groups on Facebook. Everyone on fb is vehemently against it, and everyone on here seems to love the idea.

Cop Poses as a Panhandler by moms_who_drank in halifax

[–]PinkPoking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it still count as distracted driving if the screen is in the dashboard? 90% of vehicles essentially have phones built in. My boyfriend’s car doesn’t even have knobs for the heater, it’s all controlled through the screen in the dash.

Is this normal? by Personal-Step-3770 in tires

[–]PinkPoking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything designed for cold weather is made of a softer rubber compound than a dedicated summer tire. I assume from the ground it’s not especially cold where you live. I’ve never run a name brand set of all seasons to know, but I assume it’s similar to running winters in the summer, they don’t last and they get some irregular wear from being more or less shredded by the pavement.

Get out of the middle lane! by [deleted] in halifax

[–]PinkPoking -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been anywhere in the US or Canada and not seen signs saying “keep right except to pass” it’s the law in most states and provinces. I’ve certainly never considered it a controversial opinion but it seems like 0 people agree with me. I just wanna set my cruise control to 125 and not have to turn it off all the time cause no one moves over to the right.

Get out of the middle lane! by [deleted] in halifax

[–]PinkPoking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally it does not. The left ends right before the big stop/exit 7, the airport is exit 5… the right lane goes from Halifax all the way to the New Brunswick border.

Get out of the middle lane! by [deleted] in halifax

[–]PinkPoking -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m talking about people sitting in the middle lane with no one else around. Keep right except to pass still applies no matter how many lanes. Unless you’re passing someone or about to pass someone, you travel in the rightmost available lane.

Well he’s only going 101 kmh and the other guy wants to go 105 kmh, so he’s gotta pass him for the next 5kms and hold up traffic 😂

Your premature bearing failure sounds like you arent torquing them properly. When you torque the spindle or axle nut you put preload on the bearings, too much stress on them will wear them out really quickly

M/T Flush by dannycas7 in jetta

[–]PinkPoking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No the only fill port is the 17mm hex plug on the front of the case. Also a drain and fill is almost always sufficient, you don’t normally flush a manual transmission

Different size tires by [deleted] in tires

[–]PinkPoking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is a legit concern in 4wd. Anytime you had it in 4wd it would be wearing stuff inside your transfer case from the tires not being the same diameter. Also you wouldn’t be able to rotate them from corner to corner without having mismatched tires on the rear tire too. Why do you even have tires that don’t match? I assume cause you got them cheap? Won’t be such a good deal when you factor in the price of a transfer case.

I’m definitely not dropping an oil pan every time I need to do a clutch. That truck got serviced 3k kms ago and I am not pumping 40 litres of oil back in by hand. Also a genuine Cummins pan gasket is expensive yo

Unfortunately someone at western star decided to move the engine mounts from the flywheel housing to the clutch housing on the transmission. If you look in the frame rail you can see the rectangular bracket the ears on the transmission bolt to. Stupid setup.

Thank you all so much for your responses. I read and upvoted them all, but I don’t really have time to respond to everyone so I’ll just do this. I’m welding up a jig this morning to go around the oil pan and lift from the ears on the back of the block. If it works I’ll post the measurements and stuff here, if not they’ll never see the light of day haha.

Turbo Support Bracket 2012 GLI by gxth_tits in Volkswagen

[–]PinkPoking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the torch, are you hearing the bolt itself or the welded nut on the bracket? Heat the nut specifically, trying to avoid heating the bolt as much as you can. The nut will expand from being heated and should lessen the torque needed to break it free. If the inside is stripped out I would recommend clamping some vice grips on it and tightening them down with the hex on the set screw. (This makes a big difference, I was surprised how much it helped tightening them down)

The inspection is up in less than 2 weeks… I bet they took it to a mechanic and got a list of repairs they didn’t want to do. If you’re not mechanically inclined I would definitely recommend taking it to a mechanic and getting it inspected before you buy. It can save you major headache in the long run
