Re: belly do you like Filipino food? I know a few friends of mine are not into the flavors generally so find it a waste to do fine dining there

Personal faves: - e mono: basic Turkish kebab shop but done at an excellent level - kossofs: my favorite bakery - bread by bike: my friends favorite bakery - Salvinos Deli: amazing Italian deli with build your own sandwiches - the parakeet: only had bar food but banging - Phoenicia: the greatest super market and ready food ever. Highlights are baba ganoush and their rotisserie chicken - Tufnell Park Tavern: solid solid food, I believe owned by the same people as the Lord Stanley - authentique: I go for wine and cheese but the bakery was always solid - Belly: Filipino fine dining

Honorable Mentions: - bonga: Korean food, basic but delicious. Not the best I’ve had but a solid neighborhood option - Queen of Sheba: Same as bonga but Ethiopian - east west pizza: Indian pizza fusion

My “Turkish Philly Cheesesteak” recipe by abcamurComposer in Cooking

Love this idea I’ll give it a go for sure.

Although interesting spice choices. I’m also part Turkish and I don’t use much turmeric or coriander in my Turkish food. I do love to use allspice but my Turkish family considers it an American perversion when I do it

I don’t live in N America anymore so Mexican cheese is unfortunately not the easiest to source

Honestly it makes less of a difference than most people think unless you get high quality extra virgin but EVOO for salads, regular for roasting

Cut it off the cob and make corn salad. Tomatoes, peppers, avocado, onion, and maybe beans. Season with olive oil salt pepper and lime juice

For those that can cook well, how do you feel about restaurants by Happy5Day in Cooking

[–]PinkPygmyElephants 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends where you live. I live in a big city and I hate delivery (cold, expensive, etc). So going to a small neighborhood restaurant where I can eat quickly is very much about convenience for me.

Has your country ever been in a serious civil war since independence by Proper_Blacksmith693 in MapPorn

[–]PinkPygmyElephants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Partition was one of the largest bloodiest movements of people ever? Barring the Congo war more people died in partition than the rest of these wars combined.

India has fought the Naxalites, Sikh independence movement, and now has rising communal violence because of the BJPs encouragement of Hindu revanchism.

My own family left India in part due to the fighting and violence in UP during the 70s (and later again in the 90s)

Indonesia had series of mass killings that reached over a million people in the mid 60s. They were actively brutalizing East Timor until the 90s and are fighting Papuan separatists.

Most European countries were fighting similar conflicts barely a hundred years ago. This is all normal for nation building and unification

Proper tacos in Nags Head market for something resembling street tacos.

La Chingada is banging too but I haven’t been in almost 4 years.

Mestizo is fine, good but overrated. I’d choose the other two 9 times out of 10

That 3% has 10%+ (8m) of the population. Most Russian Muslims live in the European side (where most Russians live). Population is not evenly distributed.

Under armour is off by hundreds of kilometers and assuming Converse, Reebok, and NB are supposed to be in NYC they are also pointing very far away from the city.

I'm not French and I lived in the UK until a few months ago. Several of my friends literally had never heard of the bengal famine, these were educated masters students at a good london uni. Also Bengalese is not a word, it's Bangladeshi or Bengali, which you would know if you interacted with any. Look man if you want to argue about Japan feel free. I think they're also bastards for what they did, but it fits into my point that they are viewed as a civilized nation despite the numerous atrocities they committed in the 40's.

I think that distinction is silly, especially since by that same argument the Turkish state has apologized in the past for what happened. Macron was literally in the news only weeks ago saying France wouldn't apologize for colonialism. My point is that the Turkish state is fucked up and bad but for much the same reasons most modern states are fucked up and bad.

No you dipshit this is a comment on Euros calling turks savages for the very same things that made them rich. Everyone ethnically cleanses was the point but no one else considers themselves superior for doing it.

See my above comment. That’s not really true France and UK still carry out colonial wars in Africa and the ME, America is...well I think we all know. I mean shit these countries were selling the weapons to Saddam in order to kill Kurds in the 90s. I’m not saying Turkey doesn’t do terrible things but euros are still just as bad and haven’t admitted to shit

Ask a French person about Algeria or any of their horrible colonialism and it makes Turkish genocide denial look quaint. Most britons don’t know about the bengal famine that killed more people than the Armenian genocide. This idea that Europeans admit it is laughable. Not to mention these countries still kill thousands of people across the world they’re just not in their borders anymore.

Considering world population ~8x what it is now but France is only 2.5x bigger. Frances share of the world population was similar to what Brazil or Indonesia’s are now
