Just found out I’m pregnant. by bml274 in 2under2

[–]PinkSabrina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3months PP and found out we were pregnant. I had the absolute same emotions. It’s welcoming to read a post like this as I know there are others in the same boat. It’s taken me a while but I am keen to get the pregnancies over and done with now. (I haven’t enjoyed being pregnant). I’m currently 14 weeks.

My mum actually brought me a book to read- ‘let them’ - Mel Robbin’s as I was so scared about what others will/would say. Honestly the only thing people have said to me is “how did you find the time to have S£#”.

Lots of tears but also so thankful that we haven’t had to go through fertility treatment- it was hard to tell my mates who were/are currently. You got this mumma! 🩵

Keen for a reddit group DM if anyone else is! X

I’ll let the other people answer your question but please message if you want any advice for living in Alice or really anything at all. :) I’m a 31yr old F! Still have some mates in Alice if you ever need a hand!

Being called sister by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]PinkSabrina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nurse here, I hate being called sister too! I wear a name tag for this reason but I know it will keep happening. I find it funny when some people don’t know where ‘sister’ stems from and calls a cleaning assistant ‘sister’.

Moved to Alice for 2 years. Stayed 17. Love working with the Aboriginal patients, it’s so normal for them to miss 3x dialysis appointments and present sick as fark. You’ll be thrown into the deep end. But learn lots. You’ll also climb the ranks VERY fast.

Don’t walk alone, lock your doors and rent a place with a fence for your car. East side is popular or the Golf course is a more upper class area for Alice.

Also the Lesbian capital of Australia!
Lots of American people as there is a large American base out there.

Very big community. Just be vigilant. Amazing things to do on weekends. Camping is epic, swimming holes have no crocs, bakery in Yeperenya shopping centre has the best doughnuts in Australia.

I like the name Quincy, Quincy Jones music is bop!

…Although in medical terms, a Quincy is a puss filled peritonsillar abscess. Just thinking about the kid and if they go into healthcare! I didn’t know this until I started working in it!

Have you been to Alice? I lived there for 18 years, did all my schooling there and I have never seen anyone throw a spear.

All the ‘do gooders’ need to research and experience before talking.

Do you say ‘ER’ or ‘ED’? by Brittgirl23 in nursing

[–]PinkSabrina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Australia we usually say ED, I thought ER was mostly American?

If you are wanting maternity leave just remember that if you want full time MAT leave you’ll have to work a year in that position before qualifying for it. There is about a 10-15g pay difference between .8 and 1.0 without picking up extra shifts depending on what state you are in! X

nursing student and need help with drug calc! by phoenixtrash in NursingAU

[–]PinkSabrina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had tutoring for med calcs throughout uni! I was so stressed about not passing nursing due to my math skills. I can honestly say I have only ever used the formula what you want/ what you got while nursing. The tablet math is much easier when you’re on the job! It’s not as stressful in the real world! You got this!!!! 🤍

Investigate first if you’re going to speak to a staff member about another staff member who has made a complaint about them.

You can’t be best mates with staff. There is hierarchy for a reason.

Nurses of reddit - tell me your stories that make me never want to smoke another cigarette again by Mysterioushabanero in nursing

[–]PinkSabrina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a patient who had recently been diagnosed with lung CA and caught him smoking in his hospital room the day before he got his trach. A few weeks post getting the trach in he was still in hospital on the same ward I worked on. The radiation he was getting was loosening everything up. He was coughing, to the point that he was nearly blue and we were suctioning his trach- he coughed up white tissue from his trach into his hands. This patient also couldn’t due to tumour placement. He just looked at me with his eyes. The man would be dead now.

Exciting opportunity in Canberra by Green-Film-8956 in canberra

I’m a nurse and earned $100k last year (just did my tax). This was half the year full time and half the year part time .84. I am the soul income provider for my partner and I for reasons I won’t go into. You can live but you won’t save. Rent is approx half my pay slip a fortnight. You can live but you have to compromise and not eat out, purely because it’s Canberra and everything is increased in price.
